What they're asking is, can we stop hiring the country's most popular musicians for the most watched concert of the year?

366

u/salanaland Feb 12 '25

So they want DEI now

182

u/OptimusChristt Feb 12 '25

They always have (for wypeepo)

111

u/salanaland Feb 12 '25

As a honky I gotta say most honkies are pretty mediocre

28

u/MaineLark Feb 13 '25

For real. I think that’s why we’re so bitter that POC are so cool, pure jealousy. It’s so gross :(

14

u/SparxIzLyfe Feb 13 '25

That's true. But the soul crushing part, is that before we whities did all that messed up stuff to people.... 😭.... the vast majority of the people white folks met were originally friendly and willing to help us out. They didn't really hold it against us that we ate dry things on crackers, and our songs sounded like wounded woodland creatures. It's mostly been the graping, and stealing, and mortal wounding that's caused non white folks to have the ass for us whites.

In other words, we could have stayed friends this whole time and just enjoyed each other's talents, but instead, our white ancestors gave us this sh💩t.

Instead, not even our ancestors, but the crumbly crackers around us now would prefer to be like this rather than have more friends. Hell, they don't even wanna pretend to be nice. Maybe this is hell. Maybe we all died and forgot, and this is hell.

9

u/MaineLark Feb 13 '25

I know, that haunts me so much. I live in an area that has a lot of Native American history, and the things our people did are deplorable. The world could have been such an incredible place if we all just gave a shit about each other, but here we are.

Certainly feels like hell. I can't even fathom how awful it is for POC right now.

6

u/SparxIzLyfe Feb 14 '25

My family is composed of my mom and adult kid who I live with, plus chosen family we've had who have been there for us, and we've been there for, for over 2 decades. My household is 2/3 queer, and everyone is from an unpopular minority faith. My chosen family are Hispanic, have disabled kids, and their income is all based on government funds. One of them is disabled, another works a job that's funded through a government program through the state, which is funded by the feds. Everyone I love is incredibly vulnerable. The first few days of the EO'S, that's what I kept saying to myself at the end of the day: "they're all so vulnerable. I hate this."

3

u/Artzebub Feb 16 '25

What's EO?

3

u/Antillama Feb 16 '25

Executive Order

2

u/Less_Wealth5525 Feb 21 '25

White music sounds like wounded woodland creatures! I love it!

44

u/Golden_Apple_23 Feb 13 '25

They just want "The blacks" to entertain them with feats of strength and skill, not with musical prowess.

wypeepo SMH.

21

u/What-The-Helvetica Feb 13 '25

"sHuT uP aNd DrIbbLE"

6

u/Baactor Feb 14 '25

They just want every black person to be Hershel Walker, or not to be at all.

77

u/Zestyclose-Algae-542 Feb 12 '25

“We demand quality entertainment like a supergroup of Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, Aaron Lewis, Forgiato Blow, and Tyson James!”

58

u/YDoEyeNeedAName Feb 12 '25

i just threw up in my mouth thanks

26

u/moopsiefruitsie Feb 12 '25

Same. I’ve just learned reading ‘kid rock’ triggers my gag reflex.

23

u/Rakanadyo Feb 12 '25

Sounds like an Epstein Island reunion tour.

11

u/sjwillis Feb 13 '25

3

u/Suspicious-Pay3953 Feb 14 '25

I'm impressed with my self that I don't know who most of those people are.

26

u/opal2120 Feb 13 '25

I saw a pro Trump page that wanted Ted Nugent. Bro nobody likes him, that’s why he wasn’t asked

10

u/Morella_xx Feb 13 '25

I saw someone asking for "some real music, like Guns N Roses!"

I wonder what year he thinks it is.

6

u/opal2120 Feb 13 '25

I went to music school and fun fact, all music is real music.

778

u/Purple_Bowling_Shoes Feb 12 '25 edited Feb 12 '25

I wonder what one group of people he's talking about?

Anyway, if I could turn Serena's crip walk into powder I would have snorted it and I'm white AF.

212

u/babywhiz Feb 12 '25

I live in Arkansas, very MAGA. I have had to explain about all the different Drake references. US vs Them is us vs the pdf's. They were like, oh! We didn't know! Well, now I get it!

79

u/Alexandratta Feb 12 '25

I saw a TikTok of a hilarious comedian who basically explained the entire status of the Drake/Kendrick feud in a way that I, a white metal-head from NY, now fully understood.

85

u/morningfrost86 Feb 12 '25

Josh Johnson really is the best lol. Dude's always so topical.

15

u/Pyroraptor42 Feb 12 '25

Do you have a link or something? I'm pretty out of the loop on it and it might be nice to see it in digested form.

17

u/Alexandratta Feb 12 '25

19

u/AlabasterPelican Feb 12 '25

Tacking on to sources for those who aren't in the loop

(Background) Josh Johnson: Drake VS Kendrick Explained to White People (this is about 8 months old)

(The performance) Signified B Sides: Kendrick Lamar Sneak Disses America… (FD Signifier breaks the halftime show down)

13

u/Junior-Fisherman8779 Feb 13 '25

FD’s original video on the whole situation was really fuckin good too, the way he explained that middle of the night drop that Kendrick hijacked after drake had been hyping it up so hard—something about the EMOTION in that man’s voice, it was amazing son

8

u/AlabasterPelican Feb 13 '25

FD has done several on the whole situation that were excellent. He's just an excellent sub all around.

8

u/Junior-Fisherman8779 Feb 13 '25

too true bro. Seriously, that clip from this vid (https://youtu.be/AEsf7QmIJTQ?si=sp1yMX3mtrwWZ56w) (whole thing was such a good watch to be honest, esp for a freak who likes to spend their evenings watching 3+ hour long video essays haha) RIGHT at 2:29:00, talking about THAT MOMENT, the editing, the clips, the way he CONVEYED that shit, I mean this video was too damn good

seriously, even if anyone out there doesnt have 3 hours of video in them, just this clip shows how diabolically complex this fuckin SCHEME against Drake was this whole time—the setup, the fact that he literally undercut Drake’s most hyped up drop, turning the whole thing AGAINST him to drop NOT ONLY the most diabolically cruel song, but also the full uncropped pic of Drake’s date rape drug prescription in his own legal name.

Every time I watch that clip of FD on that phone call w his friend, and he just hears “Kendrick just dropped.” and his wife in the background just covering her mouth speechless, I love it haha

4

u/AshamedDragonfly4453 Feb 13 '25

Thanks so much for these links. I could listen to these guys explaining stuff all day!

3

u/AlabasterPelican Feb 13 '25

You're welcome! FD did a 3½ hour deep dive on the beef including the history of hip-hop beef. Someone else commented a link to it with a good time stamp.

1

u/Nutduffel Feb 20 '25

Thanks for these vid links!

1

u/AlabasterPelican Feb 20 '25

You're welcome. Josh just dropped a new set in Asheville that covers the Superbowl halftime snow

167

u/Purple_Bowling_Shoes Feb 12 '25

The "a minor" with the audience response was awesome.

45

u/koviko Feb 12 '25

I still get chills THINKING about it. So vindicating!

81

Well most people. Some people are ok with PDFs.

15

u/PinkSaldo Feb 12 '25

You can say pedophile on reddit this isn't tiktok

10

u/Octospyder Feb 13 '25

Literally. I can't with the self censoring. I see it everywhere

9

u/bolivar-shagnasty Feb 12 '25

us vs the pdf's

PDFs?

40

u/Liedolfr Feb 12 '25

My guess is that's new internet speak for pedophiles.

36

u/okashiikessen Feb 12 '25

Adobe is gonna take issue with that.

Too bad nobody likes Adobe, either.

24

u/Nick85er Feb 12 '25

Its PETER FILE!

7

u/Yutolia Feb 12 '25

Poor Jen…

9

u/Finger_Ring_Friends Feb 12 '25

It is. Try saying "PDF File" five times fast

17

u/Azrael2082 Feb 12 '25

PDF file is pedophile in social media speak. Gets around the censors. Like “unaliving”

33

u/bolivar-shagnasty Feb 12 '25

That's fucking dumb. If Drake is a pedohile, we should call him a pedohile.

36

u/Finger_Ring_Friends Feb 12 '25

The softening of our language in real time as a direct reaction to TikTok profanity filters has been wild to watch. Right now it's just annoying and stupid, but it's kind of concerning and dystopian to watch a serious video about some serious incident and have to translate that garble into real words with real meaning. Carlin would've had a fucking aneurysm by now if he was still around.

7

u/Golden_Apple_23 Feb 13 '25

I don't know... knowing how 'woke' Carlin was, he'd be riffing off all these forced workarounds and making up his own takes on some that fight The Man. Can't say "Auntifa" now... can we just talk about the Uncs?

Carlin was a sharp dude and I think he'd take more umbrage with how we're being silenced rather than the work-arounds to that silencing.

I mean "unalived"? the hell is up with that?

Suicide? no no, he just had a pre-emptive breathing status change.

7

u/babywhiz Feb 12 '25

I didn't know the rules of the sub, so I went the safe route.

Look, people can argue the semantics of legalities, but when you take the video of Drake singing, touching, and kissing a girl that is 17 years old on stage, and put it in front of pre-teen and teenagers, and they are just as grossed out at everyone else, then maybe, just maybe, it's not OK as a society to think what he does is OK, as they have allowed Drake to 'just keep swimming along being a creepy ass pedo'.

5

u/morningfrost86 Feb 12 '25

I mean yes, but there are a lot of social media sites that will not allow it, so people get used to using slang to get around it. Like rape vs grape.

7

u/Brndrll Feb 12 '25

I fucking hate when people use "grape". It makes it sound like a cutesy thing, like it's normalizing it.

3

u/morningfrost86 Feb 13 '25

Blame social media companies.

5

u/EaklebeeTheUncertain Feb 12 '25

Reddit is demonstrably not blocking the word paedophile, nor is it blocking its synonyms pedo, nonce or kiddie fiddler, soooo...just say that.

-2

u/morningfrost86 Feb 12 '25

Last I checked, Reddit is not the only existing social media platform. As I said, people get used to using the alternative words.

5

u/EaklebeeTheUncertain Feb 12 '25

It's the one this conversation is happening on, so what other places do is irrelevant.

-1

u/morningfrost86 Feb 13 '25

Like I said, people get used to using the alternative words and end up using then even when they're not necessary. It's not a big deal.

Peter File.

30

u/Val_Killsmore Feb 12 '25

I had a conversation just like this after last year's halftime show. He was up in arms about there only being black performers. I asked him, "Would this be your reaction if there were only white performers?" I'm a POC. Do I have the right to bitch-and-moan if there are only white country singers doing the halftime show?

2

u/Nutduffel Feb 20 '25

r/brandnewsentence right there 💃🏾👍

191

u/Noah_PpAaRrKkSs Feb 12 '25 edited Feb 12 '25

It’s not pandering when it’s to them it’s “normal”, they’re the default and everyone who is different is just being weird or perverse or even evil. It disrupts the “natural order” by even making them aware of their privileged class.

Alternatively, Kendrick said it better in “N95”: “Where the hypocrites at? / What community feels they the only ones relevant?”

70

u/paleologus Feb 12 '25

The Boomer generation thinks they are still the target demographic.

22

u/macphile Feb 12 '25

There's a definite Boomer-esque "get off my lawn" vibe with some of what people say (e.g., "I've never heard of any of these performers, waahh!"), but when it's performers of a certain skin color, it's also got another even less fun vibe. They feel like it all should be white (and male, as needed) as the default, and then other groups can have little token considerations, at best.

It reminds me of that damning study about how people view representation in movies, where a scene with, say, half women has "too many" women. The number has to be quite a bit smaller before they feel it's the "right" number. Never mind that like 51% of the population is female, so if anything, there should be every so slightly more women in a scene, if the scene is big enough.

These guys may not have a lot of non-whites in their own communities, but there are a fair number of them in the country (similarly, I don't have any MAGA farmers in my immediate vicinity, but I know they exist). I think I looked it up not long ago and guesstimated it as like 48%? I forget now. That'd include Latino, Asian, all sorts.

5

u/JmLong88 Feb 12 '25

Please except my (I don’t wanna pay for Reddit awards) award 🏆

I appreciate your comment. The N95 reference, Chef’s kiss!

81

u/BrattyThuggess Feb 12 '25

Out of the last 10 halftime shows, how many HAVEN’T they deemed “inappropriate, trashy, classless, tasteless, pandering, and/or otherwise”

Because all these think pieces of how the show is supposedly “for the American people” and how it “hasn’t brought everyone together” has been when black people and POC have performed. Which lowkey proves the point of Kendrick’s whole performance with Uncle Sam(ual) in the background.

24

u/wasteland-baby Feb 12 '25

Exactly! But when people who are used to everything pandering to them see something they can’t relate to, they despise it. It’s so unfortunate that the people that needed to hear his message are the least likely to even attempt to understand it.

12

u/Schonke Feb 12 '25

When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression...

2

u/livejamie Feb 13 '25

When will we get good family values halftime shows like Toby Keith or Kid Rock? /s

1

u/greatbrono7 Feb 18 '25

I don’t think Toby Keith will be performing…

53

u/Volantis009 Feb 12 '25

What would these people do if they didn't have anyone to complain/blame their personal problems and failings on.

This is like that farmer crying about the government not giving him free money. Fucking farmers completely dependent on a system they know nothing about.

16

u/Daddio209 Feb 12 '25

What would these people do if they didn't have anyone to complain/blame their personal problems and failings on.

What they're doing now, and have done through history: either pick a small group to vilify, or wither away.

53

u/Corredespondent Feb 12 '25

“My group is the default! But I’m also oppressed. And reverse racism is real! Stop all this identity politics!”

22

u/wasteland-baby Feb 12 '25

It’s freaking insane how dense they are

45

u/salanaland Feb 12 '25

So they want DEI for halftime shows but nowhere else?

25

u/moopsiefruitsie Feb 12 '25

No. White. They want white.

11

u/Shifter25 Feb 12 '25

They want white people to be included in everything.

23

u/lilmxfi Feb 12 '25

Fun fact: Kendrick's halftime show had a larger viewership than the super bowl itself. Kendrick had 133.5 million viewers compared to 127.7 million for the game. It was the most viewed halftime show in NFL history. He STAYS winning. And I hope that chaps the asses of every dickhead that complained about it.

2

u/BoisterousBard Feb 13 '25

I don't give the NFL the views, fuck them.

It was important for me to see Kendrick perform, so I watched as soon as I could! Not disappointed. He understood the assignment. Straight fire.

1

u/livejamie Feb 13 '25

Well yeah, the game this year was fucking boring as shit

18

u/whiterac00n Feb 12 '25

This is a reoccurring theme for conservatives, whether it’s music, video games, movies or even just “culture”. They cry endlessly and incessantly about why they’re not being pandered to, even though numerous companies do. They think they are the “default society” and everyone else is a special interest group. I hope they keep crying

17

u/ChickpeaDemon Feb 12 '25

There was so many chefs kiss moments in that performance but maga completely missing the point and responding exactly the way Jackson’s Uncle Sam laid out, “Too loud, too reckless, too ghetto,” was brilliant.

6

u/indica_bones Feb 12 '25

Which is exactly how a loud portion of the population is responding to the performance.

13

u/Bibliloo Feb 12 '25

Ok, so, they wanted someone who's not black. I have a proposal there's a white artists who has sold like every ticket since they started doing concerts, with some of the most well selling albums ever, listened all around the globe by both rich and poor and who's a billionaire who like to fly in a private jet even when driving would have been quicker... If you didn't guess, yes it's Taylor Swift.

31

u/Alexandratta Feb 12 '25

If you hated that performance then here's the situation: You're not like us.

ngl, I had to watch it twice... the dude put so much symbolism into every single fucking moment of this performance.

The entire show was called a "Game" the layout of the field were the symbols on a Playstation Controller (Sony is Drake's Record Label...)

Uncle Sam was played by Sam Jackson and the entire time he was acting as the Establishment/Government attempted to inform him how to "Play the Game" and giving deductions and criticisms each time... until the end when Kendrick interrupted him.

At the start, as well, "The Revolution 'bout to be Televised, you picked the right time, but wrong guy" - said knowing DJT is at the SuperBowl.

It's not my kind of music, not a huge fan personally... but I am a writer. I know symbolism... and all of this that he did?

This man is the greatest hater of all time.

25

u/replicantcase Feb 12 '25

"Can we instead pander to the group I belong to? I need to feel pandered, real bad. "

12

u/girlwhoweighted Feb 12 '25

I'm sure there's other talent out there everyone would love to see...

Well sounds to me like 133 million people wanted to see this talent. Seems to me that more people wanted to see this talent than had ever wanted to see any super bowl talent previously performing. And it seems unlikely to me that 133 million only encompasses one group

7

u/LordWarlockDathamir Feb 12 '25

At this point ya gotta stop not showing people's names or handles. Let them be racist and let the world know. Don't hide these people show them off and embarrassed them

[removed] — view removed comment

7

u/I_Am_Dwight_Snoot Feb 12 '25

Well we know what they were insinuating.

But the correct answer is younger people. Kendrick is super popular for people below 35.

8

u/omghorussaveusall Feb 12 '25

Hip hop is the biggest music genre. Dot is the biggest thing in hip hop. The NFL is catering to the masses. Not choosing a hip hop star would be pandering to a preferred demographic, like, if they chose a country star considering country still lags behind pop and rock. Now that would be some DEI shit, eh?

9

u/Bad_Wizardry Feb 12 '25

Never cared for Kendrick Lamar’s music. But him getting MAGAs upset has certainly made me a fan of the man.

6

u/EssenceReavers Feb 12 '25

"I hate DEI unless it applies to me" lol /s

5

u/oompaloompa465 Feb 12 '25

quite ironic they bood the only white girl with the same musical achievements thar would give her acces on that stage

or they want to go the dei route with ted nugent or Kanye?

10

u/bolivar-shagnasty Feb 12 '25

I'm sure there's other talent out there everyone would love to see.

He/She/They is/are not wrong.

Weird Al NEEDS to do the halftime show.

4

u/Ok_Researcher_9796 Feb 12 '25

I really like Kendrick Lamar and Im white. Is that the group they meant?

4

u/cmax22025 Feb 12 '25

When are we straight white people finally going to have our day in the spotlight?

I really feel like I don't need to add this as the comment is all but literally dripping in sarcasm. But this is reddit, so... /s

4

u/Niemann3 Feb 12 '25

Now they care about inclusion. 🙄

17

u/jessfire78 Feb 12 '25

For the love of god, NO MORE classic rock. Oh wait, its the superbowl, i dont watch that shite. Carry on.

8

u/beermile Feb 12 '25

Has there been any classic rock in the last decade?

17

u/Noah_PpAaRrKkSs Feb 12 '25

Maroon 5 and Coldplay arguably. But yeah the last decade has been light on what most people think of when someone says classic rock. The Who was 2010.

7

u/wheresbillyatschool Feb 12 '25

I love when the World Health Organization releases a new banger!

-2

u/Daddio209 Feb 12 '25

2

I’m not watching that.

1

u/Daddio209 Feb 12 '25

And that's fine!

1

u/jessfire78 Feb 12 '25

Thats not the point.

1

u/Ok_Boysenberry_6283 Feb 12 '25

So what’s the point?

2

u/Noah_PpAaRrKkSs Feb 12 '25

I think they just don’t like classic rock and weren’t implying that the halftime show had been recently inundated with classic rock acts.

4

u/Ok_Boysenberry_6283 Feb 12 '25

Well they apparently don’t watch it anyway so that’s a pretty silly point to try to make imo

-7

u/jessfire78 Feb 12 '25

Reading comprehension helps. I wrote what i meant, figure it out.

9

u/Ok_Boysenberry_6283 Feb 12 '25

Damn you’re sure ornery for no reason at all. I wasn’t rude or anything I don’t think. Maybe you need to take a few deep breaths?

-7

u/jessfire78 Feb 12 '25

Or maybe i dont want to repeat myself. There was no magical code there, only triggered people.

Also - Alligators are aggressive because of an enlarged medulla oblongata. Mama said so. Now you know. ;)

I wish you hadn’t blocked me right after calling me a bigot and shitting on me for enjoying a sport. I really would’ve liked to have known what made you think I was a bigot

3

u/boring_sciencer Feb 12 '25

I'll keep watching it on loop.

3

u/snafoomoose Feb 12 '25

"Can we stop pandering to one group of people and go back to pandering to white men again?"

2

u/VaporCarpet Feb 12 '25

Tbf, I watched because I wanted to understand the hubbub.

Definitely didn't hate the performance, I'm not triggered over anything, but I didn't enjoy it. It wasn't for me. That's fine.

2

u/Kentness1 Feb 13 '25

Man. If only an artist would do a 13 min choreographed performance which would address this very issue.

2

u/firestarter308 Feb 14 '25

I wondered how soon it would be before maga world demanded all entertainment created cater to their lowbrow tastes.

2

u/Yutolia Feb 14 '25

2

u/notaredditreader Feb 14 '25

Any MAGA accusation is just a confession.

2

Sounds like someone wants Diversity, Equity and Inclusion...

2

u/saltyourhash Feb 14 '25

This is a whiteness as default aka systemic racism.

It's about money what's the easiest way to generate more clicks and views. Add a pretend message that confuses and angers people, then sit back and count the money you made off of idiots anger and ego.

I have no doubt that this person is being racist as hell and I condemn that.

However… it would be nice to have some more diversity in the halftime show again. There hasn’t been a rock band there in about 15 years, for instance.

I think they probably did their best when they used to have multiple acts from multiple genres in one big extravaganza.

I suppose they feel that they have already captured the ratings from “football fans” and most adult males, so there’s no need to use the halftime show to attract them.

I'm old, 73, turned off the TV during half time. Didn't need the talking heads to tell me what i just watched and had no interest in watching the show. An enjoyable half time
