I figured out what Trump is doing in regards to tarrifs

Upvotes

https://www.hudsonbaycapital.com/documents/FG/hudsonbay/research/638199_A_Users_Guide_to_Restructuring_the_Global_Trading_System.pdf

Who wrote this? Stephen Miran, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers appointed by Trump.

tl;dr 60+% tariffs on China and continually escalating "in perpetuity, until the demands are met."
China basically immediately countertariffed which is not what they expected.

Author believes tariffs will basically collapse China: "Capital outflows from China can potentially result in asset price collapses and severe financial stress. According to Bloomberg, total debt in the Chinese economy exceeds 350% of GDP (Figure 7); this level of leverage entails the possibility for massive vulnerabilities to leakages in the capital account. Bursting bubbles in China as a result of currency devaluation could cause financial market volatility significantly in excess of that caused by the tariffs themselves."

Author believes "currency offset" will happen, meaning the dollar will appreciate relative to the currency of the country being tariffed thus negating upward pressure on inflation: "if currencies perfectly adjust, the U.S. government collects revenue in a noninflationary way paid by foreigners via reduced purchasing power, but exports may become encumbered." (p17)

more mafia activity

One can imagine a long list of trade and security criteria which might lead to higher or lower tariffs, premised on
the notion that access to the U.S. consumer market is a privilege that must be earned, not a right. For example,
maybe the U.S. wants to discriminate based on:
• Does the nation apply similar tariff rates to their imports from the U.S. as America does on their exports here?
• Does the nation have a history of suppressing its currency, for instance via the accumulation of excessive
quantities of foreign exchange reserves?
• Does the nation open its markets to U.S. firms in the same way America opens its markets to foreign firms
operating stateside?
• Does the nation respect American intellectual property rights?
• Does the nation help China evade tariffs via re-export?
• Does the nation pay its NATO obligations in full?
• Does the nation side with China, Russia, and Iran in key international disputes, for instance at the United Nations?
• Does the nation help sanctioned entities evade sanctions, or trade with sanctioned entities?
• Does the nation support or oppose U.S. security efforts in various theaters?
• Does the nation harbor enemies of the United States, e.g. terrorists or cybercriminals?
• Do the nation’s leaders grandstand against the United States in the international theater?

The document also confusingly calls for a stronger dollar as well as a weaker dollar.

Sell all your stocks, the US is going all-in with shitty cards. It's not a bluff. Tariffs will not be reversed.

Any recent Marxist books on surviving the office?

I just recently got a position in a new company and most of my friends who work there say it's crushed their soul and I can tell - most of them go out once every few months and most of their free time is spent watching Netflix and dealing with burnout.

I'm sure class consciousness already helps me a ton, but I would like to read some books on dealing with modern corporate work from a Marxist perspective. Just so I can keep myself hopeful and not become a corporate drone or totally burnt out.

Thanks in advance!

I had a good laugh at this. The Dutch subreddits banned me for posting it because they’re super sensitive to any kind of criticism. I honestly thought it was hilarious. The guy’s basically Nigerian, as you can see.

Meme ABC: Always Build Communism

To borrow a phrase from the Expanse, we're in the Churn now. Where the rules change and tribes get smaller and simpler. In these interesting times, there really are only two sides. You're either for the Ruling Class or the People. You're either a fascist or a communist. Whether you realize it or not, your actions amount to a tiny bit of force that combines with and adds to the force of the masses. So choose your direction and start pushing, because the Churn has already started. You're in it now.

Theory For some reason this come up in a dream. Anyway, the point that to use socialism for harm is greatest crime of humanity

It's like you know how the system works and understand the only solution out of that system is through socialism knowledge and experience, but instead of using that to liberate people and society, you become a former-Trot neocon, you become a radlib CIA agent, you become a mouthpiece for imperialist power.

Your crime of betrayal against the working class is many times worse than the reactionaries who oppress the same workers you swore to defend and seed for liberation, therefore you deserve whatever coming retaliation that same working class will bring. Karma isn't real, but the dialectics of class contradictions is and eventually will lead to it.

Socialism is the vehicle to liberation and you as a communist should respect not only the progression of socialism in systemic change, but also the shoulders of workers and especially comrades who sacrificed, that you are standing on and all hoped you succeed. Socialism isn't a book club joke, it's living history of the oppressed coming in violent confrontation against the capitalist class, so that next generations hopefully have a future.

Shit Liberals Say The myth of progressive imperialism

Imperialism is a system of domination and hegemonic control, you cannot separate its "good" parts from its "bad" parts and take them in isolation. There is no "good" intervention from a global capitalist and imperialist superpower such as the US – it all ultimately serves the maintenance of the global capitalist order no matter how much they talk about freedom or human rights

What's the best way to reply to someone telling me criticism of Kamala is unhelpful and tone deaf

After the election, I criticized Kamala and was told this:

https://imgur.com/a/EcdnQIf

Honestly I find this statement really odd and self centered. My response is this:

A. Yes misgoynoir exists that's true and played a fact

B. However that does not dismiss that her campaign and the dems wasn't good

C. Kamala supported a genocide where women were victims and suffered gender based violence not to mention her role as a prosecutor and called herself the top cop

tbh this comment feels more they want participation in imperialism and find it and war crimes more acceptable if a black woman does it

I find it self centered to focus on your feelings instead of the lives she's destroying

anyway that's how I'd reply but what's a good response overall or better ways to phrase it?

Parenti claim on the West German police

In Black Shirts and Reds, Parenti claims that East germans after the fall of the GDR found that the West German police were more brutal than the Stasi. Anyone have a source on this?
