Do you think Lord Ram was used a sense of resistance to the foreign Invadors?
I have noticed, Lord Ram' s popularity in those states of Bharatvarsh where there was historically, Islamic occupation. Like Up, Bihar , Gujarat, Bengal, Haryana. The faith which Up people hold towards Lord Ram is both fascinating and interesting . As if Lord Ram was something for them to hold when they faced the sword of oppression. When Invadors were asking them to convert or die... It seemed the ethos of Lord Ram were something they wanted to hold till they die. They faced humiliation but utilised that to be more creative towards depicting their faith in him.
Ram Shruti is in Awadhi Sanskrit. Songs of Lord Ram, Bhajan Kirtan. As if Lord Ram was not a distant God, but a familyl member. Like an older brother or father, to them.
Bengali Ramayan ( Kritibas Ramayan) was created during 15th century, the time of Bengal Sultanate. At time in which Many Hindus were forcefully converted by sword. Many people say that, during the rule of Yadu( a Muslim King of Bengal Sultanate)... He converted that many people to Islam as much as Islam grew in the 300 years after him.
That time maybe Ramayan was made more accessible to people, so that every Hindu aspires to be like him.To follow his Dharm, to be as fearless as him. To be as compassionate, and monogamous.
I think , Ram was not just a God to be worshipped but a sense of escape and motivation. A sense of righteous and self worth. So I believe he was an unseen leader or a sense of support to the society. Maybetas they found Lord Ram to only support them during the worst phase of their history, so he is more relevant than the other Avatars of Vishnu or Shiva.
