My husband, August of 2022: "When our old ladies finally pass, we're not getting another pet. I can't handle losing them." Abbey passed on December 31, 2022, age 21. Vanna followed from cancer on October 18, 2023, at age 14.
November, 2022: My husband lets a tiny tuxie in through the door. "Just until the cold snap passes".
September, 2023: Our neighbor found an orange kitten about 3 months old in the roadway in the pouring rain and my husband said "Sure, we can foster till we find him a home".
November, 2023: My husband sees a tiny black kitten being given away on Nextdoor. Three hours later, I come back with said kitten.
December, 2023: Husband spots a tortimese on the local shelter FB page. Same one my granddaughter told me about, hoping I'd swoop in and teach the baby to not be afraid.
So now, we have four young cats.
In arrival order: top row is Tinker the tuxie and (orange) Cassidy. Bottom row: Malakai (black) and Skye (blue eyes).
Haha, after our senior kitty passed, my dad was adamant - 'no more cats'. 6 months later, he brought the new one himself... She's a lovely little menace and he is her favourite person.
I'll see you your tux and raise you four. This sub stupidly only allows one picture. We have 5 cats. This is Ozzy. Ozzy sits on boxes and growls a lot. He is a Russian tux. His owners were neglecting him. His fur is softer than rabbit or mink. He is a VERY clean cat and wonderfully fuzzy. He is a sassy boy.
The cat on the royal throne is Bean. Bean has pica and likes to eat plastic.
The cat in the basket is Oscar - hambone. He is horribly obese, but I do control what he eats.
And the one in the front is bug. she is a sweet cat, was very hard to take in initially and would scream if you so much as touched her.
Not shown is Val, Bean's brother. We adopted 2 of 3, the third kitten was already adopted but we would take him in if he is returned for any reason.
i am absolutely smitten with Romy. Romy and val are my wife's cats, or at least that was how it was supposed to be. She adopted Romy first and brought him home. I was told to put on a blindfold before she came in. I did that and she set bean on my chest. Well he was pretty squirelly and didn't want to be held. The idea was that I would not interact with him so he would bond with my wife. That wasn't a resounding success and I am now bean's caretaker. He sleeps next to my legs at night. I just need him to stop eating plastic. Agin my.better judgment, because we are now at FOUR cats, I asked if she might want to adopt his brother. So you get what we have today. Fortunately Val is a real cuddler and will sleep with you under the covers..And he is mama's good boy. Pic for reference.
Oscar is my boy. I have had him for many years. We lost his brother, peep, to a saddle thrombosis. He did not suffer long as I was able to get him to the emergency vet within an hour. Just gutted me. He was a polite, demure baby.
Val and Romy (valentino and romeo ("bean") are the newest. Bug is the oldest of the bunch. We love all of them. Val and bean are kleptos. My wedding ring disappeared, still haven't found it. So. Many. Cats. over 50 years
I have a great plan when I adopt a new cat. I don't tell my husband until the day I'm going to pick up the cat. He stresses out so I just wait to tell him so he can't stress out for weeks ahead. Ta da!!!
I don't recommend this method for every couple. It's not a one size fits all Lol He genuinely loves cats but is a worry wart. He and the new cat end up in love and it works out. I just posted him on r/mensmittenwithkittens He's dolling out treats😊
