Serious question…

I just had to move out of my apartment where I was allowed to have cats but only 2 and had to pay $40 for each. Now I know I’m bad I didn’t tell them I had 4. But I guess I didn’t think this all the way through when I kept getting cats and now I’m up to 4. How am I going to find a place that’s going to let me bring 4 cats without being deceitful and lying about how many I have. Now I can say all day long I have the best cats, they don’t fuck shit up, ruin furniture or walls or ever go to the bathroom outside their box and never fight and are loud. Now saying all this who wouldn’t tell a potential landlord all this right? I’m just kinda stuck right now. I’m living with my sister in law who owns her condo so staying here is always an option but if I wanted my own apartment does anyone have an suggestions or gone through this with more than 2 cats. And getting rid of them is NOT an option no never ever not at all won’t even entertain the thought, don’t even type it! Thanks 😻

Just lie dude. It’s none of their business how many cats you have

How many did you have when you move? And how many do you have now?

When I moved in I didn’t have any…then my mom died and I got 1 to help Me grieve and then a year later I rescued another one and then last July I rescued 2 more. LoL

Sending you a hug… and perhaps another tuxedo. 💜

Crazy how cats pile up like that. Got an old cat, then a kitten then a feral cat for the kitten, then my grandmother's cat then found a stray kitten.

I had a place where I had to describe what they looked like on the pet form. Maybe even provide a picture, I can’t remember. Both of mine were black and white (one tux, one cow). I fibbed and said I had 1 cause that was the limit and then she was always put in my bedroom when maintenance came because “she doesn’t handle strangers,” so they never knew I had two. Yours look so similar, they’d all have to be in the window together for anyone to know. **edit to add: your crew is so adorable and I can’t believe how well they all match lol

I got permission for one and then promptly got two. Didn’t have any problems as the LL never ended up coming round while we had them both

Where I live (Australia) we have some of the strictest rental laws in the world. Something like 95% of rentals in my city don’t allow pets. My house doesn’t allow pets. I have two cats and they can take my babies away from my cold dead hands. I’ve lied about cats my adult life, and since I’ll probably never afford my own home, I’m going to continue to do so til the day I die. I keep my apartment clean, my babies are very well behaved, and my landlord has no right to dictate how I choose to live. Lie through your teeth, girlfriend. And enjoy your adorable little crew.

Here are my “nonexistent” babies, for solidarity 💪🏻

..a property owner does have a right to limit the number of pets a tenant has. And it’s usually for very good reason. The more pets, the higher likelihood of pet-related property damage, that’s just statistics, and very obvious.

No one is entitled to insist a person take a greater risk to their property than they have consented to.

Blah blah blah. r/landlordlove is that way 👉

Someone being a landlord doesn’t segregate them (i’m not one)

I love cats

But if i rented a place to someone and i signed an agreement - for whatever the hell reasons i had - i would want that agreement to be held up to

You get that that community is ironic - so it’s a place for you

Oh no! I thought I was sending you somewhere where you’d get your pro-housing scalper views reinforced! What a terrible shame

Ahaha what the hell I see we’re touching into some deep trauma

An opinion on a matter doesn’t make you a supporter or follower. So go back to your MAGA group and scream at random stuff, example landlords.

I don’t give much fucks about that. But i do give in geeneral about agreements and holding up to a deal.

You could even say that’s my deep trauma i just don’t let it turn me into a dipshit like you did.

I’m not a landlord. I’ll literally never be able to afford a home. It’s just absurd to state a property owner doesn’t have a right to limit the number of pets and that there isn’t good reason to do so.

People have a right to set these kinds of terms on a lease, explicitly making it “their business” if someone breaks those terms.

Or for whatever reason

I love cats and am not a landlord - but an agreement is an agreement.

And if you break it, you can try not to get caught. If you get caught, the other party can do whatever is permitted in law to enforce the agreement. Same thing whether the agreement is broken by the tenant or the landlord, or any party to a legal agreement.

This is, in fact, how contracts and other legal agreements work. If anyone in the world expects that they can enter into a legal agreement and expect it to work like an agreement based on trust - well, they’re an idiot, and their error will be demonstrated, sooner rather than later.

Telling people that it’s immoral to violate a lease or rental agreement - when in fact you are not damaging the property - is absurd. And I think actual landlords are already painfully aware of this. My family owns a couple of rental houses and we certainly are!

I disagree

Example, i could know that you will get out at a specific point and expect someone from my family who is alergic to some kind of pet to enter after you.

I also disagree that it’s ‘idiotic’ to expect both sides of the agreement to hold up to it. Yes, there are instruments for legal processing - but i would hope to avoid that and rather have a mutual respectful relationship.

‘If you break it you can try to not get caught’ is not keeping to an agreement, it’s knowingly breaking it hoping for the best - and in case of worst trying to hide.

I’ve had a dog myself in an apartment were not permitted- but was that a good citizen - no.

You’re confusing morality with legality. They are not the same thing.

Presumably you continue to do so because you have not yet been shafted hard enough by someone on the other side of a legal agreement.

-1

u/Right-Funny-8999 2d ago

Absolutely wrong - we never mentioned if we discuss one or the other so you just ‘jumped’

The original comment is that anyone has the right to decide how their property is used to which I agreed and pointed out that I would expect (as a human to human) that an agreement is upheld. This is also a pointer to OP to think about it when looking for an apartment.

You are also wrong on your conclusion that i didn’t go through something legally.

So yes sorry for trying to point OP and others of being decent human beings that don’t have to be pressured by legal actions just to do right.

Give it time.

🤣 you hating the world doesn’t mean others will ‘in time’

And i’m 35 so like quite settled into this world

There is time tho sure for everyone- so same for you to find some inner piece and aim for a better society

u/CormoranNeoTropical 2d ago

Child, I don’t hate the world. I just live in it.

I hope you’ll continue to be able to enjoy your fantasy land for another several decades. Doesn’t seem likely, though.
