If you are a transfer student, we want to hear from you:
What things did you most want to know before you transferred to UGA?
What did you most NEED to know before you transferred to UGA?
What are some things nobody told you about transferring to UGA?
Thanks!
We're going to roll up the most common and insightful responses to this into a sidebar item and hopefully curate some useful items for people with transfer questions in the future.

Hello, and welcome. If you've recently been accepted to UGA, congrats! If you're a prospective student, parent, other otherwise, hopefully you'll find some answers to your questions here.
Please post all questions about admissions here. This includes such topics as: admissions release dates, ChanceMe's, required classes, transferring, transfer credits, parking, meal plans, football tickets, and any other freshmen concerns.
Some examples of this could look like: "What are my odds of getting in EA?", "How do my HS credits/AP/IB/DE look on my transcript?", "When are parking lots assigned?", "Do I need to take MATH1113 to transfer?", or "When can we pick housing?".
This applies to individual college questions, such as Terry and the College of Engineering as well, such as: "What are my chances of getting into finance?" or "I got a C in ACCT2101, can I still get into MIS?".
All other posts that belong in this megathread will be deleted. If you instead have questions about Classes/Professors/etc, click here for the class questions megathread.
If you feel like you have been directed to this thread in error, do not repost your question: send a modmail to the moderators here.

Hello! I live on the 6th floor in 1516, and recently some new name tags started appearing on my door. It was hilarious at first, but it got so so much better. Over the last few weeks, the number of nametags has gotten out of hand, and now I can no longer see my door. This is the funniest prank I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t know how many people contributed to this, but thank yall for making me laugh to the point of not being able to breathe every single day. Nothing but love and respect to everyone involved ❤️

Hello again! My last post blew up! So much so that the RA stopped by and informed us that we are technically breaking the rules. Apparently we aren’t allowed to cover more than 10% of the door, so we unfortunately have to take the nametags down. This was an absolutely brilliant prank and again I thank yall so much ❤️❤️❤️

Hello! My friend and I are high schoolers who are doing an internship at UGA over the summer that doesn’t provide housing and our commute is too far. We are looking to maybe rent an apartment or maybe get rooms in an apartment from only late May-early July and are posting to see if any college students who will have roommates out or will be out of Athens or near Athens over the summer would want to rent rooms/an apartment to us. We would only be there from Monday-Thursday and not there on weekends.
If you are interested please PM me and we can discuss our situation and find a price and talk!

Is there any sort of carpooling or ride sharing type thing that exists for employees? Buses and other options can be unreliable. Lyfts/ubers are so expensive and bikes and scooters are really not an option if you live too far away from campus and with parking being in such high demand and so expensive for certain lots, it would really be beneficial for people to carpool, but I don't know of any service like this that exists. And if it doesn't, has anyone ever thought to create something?

Rec swimmers! I just learned some cool info from the staff. Whenever I get to the 50 meter pool at 5:30, there is always a club team taking up all of the lanes. They’re supposed to leave 5 lanes for rec swimmers so if you want to swim in the 50 m pool and all the lanes are taken, ask the staff for a rec lane and they’ll move the club team.

Good morning, Dawgs! This week is magnificent for us UGA transit lovers. Riverbend, North-South, and Cross Campus Connectors are all back to 2 tracked buses per route at peak hours, same with Vet Med. Also, Central Loop and East Campus are back to full service with 3 and 4 buses respectively. The bus drought is almost to a close for now, so be sure to take advantage of it to let TPS know that YOU want this great service!

Mostly here to vent… I got a ticket at the east deck after I PAID for the spot on park mobile and then go to appeal it bc thats what it says to do… THEY DENIED MY APPEAL with the email saying it was “avoidable. HOW?! So then I call parking services and explained that I was wrongly given a ticket and asked why they would’ve rejected the appeal bc i literally submitted pictures of my park mobile receipt that I had paid to park. Apparently if you wrongly got a ticket you’re supposed to just call the office and submitting an appeal is for people who actually did something wrong. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT. And then i was like “okay but i showed evidence” and she said “yea sometimes they just don’t look at it” WHAT?! It was extremely clear on my appeal note and attachments that I was wrongly given a ticket after paying to park.
Actually so frustrating. Im graduating in a month so I will be free of UGA parking services hell soon but I’m literally paying myself through school and don’t just have my parents to throw money at the school every time I get a ticket. I stg they intentionally avoid building more parking so they can keep making money of tickets.

I know, you have to do it every semester so you should’ve done it anyway. When everything blurs together 3 years into this shit, you run the risk of thinking you already did the advising, especially when it doesn’t notify you until too late.

Hey, I’m an incoming grad student who will be in Athens during the fall; Tifton during the summer.
How is the rock climbing scene? I understand theres a gym in Athens.
I do a lot of bouldering and sport climbing, looking to see if theres a local community there who does stuff indoors/outdoors

Hey, I’m trying to find someone to rent a room out in a house for a private landlord. The other tenant is a grad student and the house is in a quiet neighborhood with a park and bus stops nearby. It has a garage and fenced in backyard as well. $820/ month including all utilities and has an alarm system for security.
Sorry if not allowed, for some reason the housing fb group admins banned me for trying to post on there 🙄.

So I have been accepted to transfer to UGA this fall, and the results of my transfer application make the admissions process in general feel strange. For reference, I applied early action for the Fall 2024 semester last year, was deferred, waitlisted, and eventually denied.
I spent one semester over at Georgia State University, managed a ~4.0 for the semester (That comes out to a rough 3.8 overall because of a B in a dual enrollment course). I came out of high school with enough AP and IB credits to transfer, so I applied. At the behest of a friend of mine who is a member of the Honors College here at UGA, I applied to that as well.
I found out on Monday that I was accepted to the honors college, and it makes the entire freshman admissions process feel bizarre. It clearly bespeaks the state of freshman admissions, with the heightened number of applications a high school senior writes resulting in a more competitive environment overall, and kind of makes me question the approach admissions offices take to applications if one can so quickly go from a rejection to a highly successful application, though continued interest and the implied successful transition to college life are likely self-selecting factors.
On the bright side though, it feels great to have pulled off admission to a school I didn't even bother applying to out of pessimism within a university I was denied from.

I know that the School of Computing will hold a graduation ceremony on May 9th at 1 p.m. at Georgia Center, Mahler Hall - https://www.cs.uga.edu/events/content/2024/spring-2025-commencement but do we need to register for this or do we just walk in? If so, where?

I thought the deadline was at midnight, but apparently it was today at 5pm. Any chances I can still obtain a ticket?
One of my friends told me it would be easier to transfer in the spring instead of the fall since it would be less competitive but what do you guys think?

I’m a senior in high school making sure I’m making the right choice for college. So unlike many other private schools, I know that on campus housing, which is included in room&board is not guaranteed beyond first-year at UGA(public). Off-campus housing would obviously mean moving out and paying rent/utilities out of pocket. Given that my family isn’t rich, and I have no passive source of income, this would obviously require me to work a job.
This would mean I would be in school full-time, participating in band, and working either part-time or in a FWS job. Is this doable? Ive done this in high school, but adult life is different story. Am I overthinking this, or should I look into committing to a private institution (which I am dreading lol). Just looking for advice…

Hey, I’ll be a junior transferring to UGA this fall and was wondering what off-campus housing you’d recommend. I’m currently deciding between The Haven and Abbey West, so any advice would be appreciated! My main concern is whether either place has a bad bug problem.

Hi, all! I’m at KSU right now, about to graduate, and I’ve decided to apply to UGA for the master’s in nonprofit management and leadership. They said deadline is july 1st but they prefer april 1st. I only just found out I’ll have the financial ability to pay for grad school so I only started my application in the last couple weeks, is this ok?? Also, what can people generally tell me about this program, if anything? Thanks in advance!!
