I'm not American, but both my grandparents gave life and limb to fight the occupation of my home country. This upsets me more than anything I have seen in a long time
They did not sacrifice their lives just for musk to stand there and do the sloppiest, soyest Nazi salute

u/Safrel Jan 20 '25
My grandpop was a Nazi youth too, and the one thing I am most confident in doing as a result of this is to identify Nazis.
This is it.

My oma was in the Hitler youth for girls.
Her father was a bartender who was also drinking buddies with Goering, a name that rather fittingly can not be said without a contemptuous sneer.
There were pictures of him getting some trophy or whatever from Goering and a few other names, them palling around, and other stuff.
When he finally died, after the funeral service, she drove home, took all that shit out of the attic, and burned it before her brother could get at it. Because he wanted to keep it.
She wasn't a perfect woman by any stretch. She used to slap the shit out of my mother for walking into the room at a bad time. But she made damn sure her kids and grandkids knew what an evil regime and twisted ideology it was.
She'd be rolling in her grave if she knew what was happening.
11
u/Safrel Jan 21 '25
My Oma had a similar struggle of living with someone in the Youth. Opa never really got over the death of his older brother, who was a pilot in the Luftwaffe. She'd always whisper in hushed tones about the atrocities she had to experience as a volksdeutsch girl who was displaced because of Nazi evils.
The trauma of these events was never really resolved in their lives, and I still feel the effects to this day.
2
u/Bokuja Jan 22 '25
My grandfather was mostly an emotionally abusive PoS (if my dad's stories are anything to go by) and he was likely dealing with the aftermath of the war. He was part of a Dutch armed civilian resistance battalion that "visited" Nazi collaborators.
My father was never quite able to tell me what grandpa actually did during those times, he doesn't quite know himself. Silent generation and all that. But he doesn't doubt for a second that grandpa killed a person.....or several. He only thing my dad DOES know for sure is that grandpa despised Germans.
Even such a clearly troubled and not well adjusted individual was able to determine that the Nazi's were (and are) scum.

Capitalism and Racism are inextricably linked, so it makes perfect sense that the World"s Richest Man would be a White Supremacist.
50
Jan 20 '25
Indeed, modern racism was a distinct invention of capitalism.
-12
u/ikinone Jan 20 '25
Indeed, modern racism was a distinct invention of capitalism.
Whereas 'good old racism' was a product of...?
19
Jan 21 '25
The modern construct of race was invented to justify slavery and colonization. Prior to 1492, humans didnāt think in terms of white/black/brown/etc. Tribalism always existed, but it was very different than today.
And certainly white supremacy wasnāt a thing, considering that up until 500 years ago Europe was a backwater while civilization thrived in the Islamic world and in Asia.
1
u/AwfulUsername123 Jan 21 '25
Black skin was first explicitly linked to slavery in the Middle East in the seventh century. Have you ever heard of the curse of Ham?
10
u/RhythmOfMyMind Jan 21 '25
It was way more complex than that. Slaves were preferred on the basis of religion, skills and other factors - not just skin color.
It was not this unanimous thing at that time that race was the #1 determining thing that made someone a slave. Far from it. It was maybe something that was considered a little bit along with a bunch of other stuff.
-4
u/AwfulUsername123 Jan 21 '25
Regardless of how complex Middle Eastern slavery was, the curse of Ham story directly links black skin to slavery.
0
u/ikinone Jan 21 '25
The modern construct of race was invented to justify slavery and colonization.
I have no doubt that many layers have been added to racism since humans existed.
Prior to 1492, humans didnāt think in terms of white/black/brown/etc.
Yeah, I'm gonna call nonsense on that one.
Tribalism always existed, but it was very different than today.
Yes, tribalism has always existed. Precisely. And yes, the world is always changing.
And certainly white supremacy wasnāt a thing
xyz supremacy is a summary of every bit of tribalism. Essentially it boils down to 'our group is better than yours', and that has existed since before humans existed.
Trying to pin this on capitalism is laughably stupid.
-2
u/IbrahIbrah Jan 21 '25
Europe was a backwater 500 years ago? What kind of hotepery is this? How a backwater continent could hold up against the Ottomans invasion?
Europe was on par with the rest of the world.
5
Jan 21 '25
Relatively speaking Europe was well behind China and the Islamic world in terms of science and technology. It was also behind in terms of literacy. Militarily speaking, it was mere chance that the continent wasnāt over run by the Mongol empire, owing its luck to the timely death of one of the Khans (forgot which one).
500 years is an estimation and on the lower bound. By that time they were rising particularly the Spanish empire. But the point still stands
-3
u/IbrahIbrah Jan 21 '25
Europe was always a major player and was never "back water", from the Antiquity to the Modern Era. The intellectual and cultural influence was a two-way street between the Muslim world and Europe, and I say that as a Muslim. It's not a backwater continent that could wage the crusades for centuries and conquers the heart of the Muslim world (Jerusalem).
500 years ago we're speaking about the peak of the Renaissance movement, it's the time of Galileo. The achievement of the muslim empires in term of scientific advancement are huge and surpassed Europe during the middle age, but that don't make Europe a back water continent, it's an hyperbolic statement.
6
Jan 21 '25
All of your examples are military based. Iām speaking in terms of overall economic and human development. Things like public health, literacy, urban development, education, etc. Thereās a reason Europe referred to it as a ādark ageā, in many ways European civilization regressed after the decline of the Roman Empire and didnāt fully rebound until the period beginning European colonization. After that, Europe leapfrogged the rest of the world.
-2
u/IbrahIbrah Jan 21 '25
The caracterizacion of the middle age as a "dark age' has now been totally rebuked by most historians. It was a Renaissance myth.
Galileo is not a military figure, neither is Leonardo Di Vinci or Copernicus. All major scientific figures of mankind who were born in Europe more than 500 years ago.
4
u/kylepo Jan 21 '25
born in Europe more than 500 years ago.
Galileo was born 464 years ago...
And, regardless, all of the people you list were born either during or after the Renaissance.

0
u/ikinone Jan 21 '25
Capitalism requires the subjugation of both man and nature.
Human existence requires the 'subjugation of both man and nature'. That's a vague and useless criticism
Read a book maybe
An equally vague insult. Is that all it takes for you to feel superior?
This vague notion of some sort of socialist utopia is so childish.
2
u/Equivalent_Adagio91 Jan 21 '25 edited Jan 21 '25
Utopia is a book written by Sir Thomas More, a book you should probably read. The word āUtopiaā is ironic because it means āno placeā. Only naive fools think that we can achieve utopia, even with socialism. I certainly never claimed utopia was in reach.
And no, human existence actually doesnāt require the subjugation of man and nature. You canāt imagine any other way to exist because all you have ever known is capitalism. Hence why I said you should read a book.
I donāt do it to feel superior. Iām tired of dealing with people who are unaware of their own ignorance
0
u/ikinone Jan 21 '25

Wow, you sure are smart! I can't believe you have time to be on reddit becasue the ladies must be all over you.
And no, human existence actually doesnāt require the subjugation of man and nature.
Oh you're right. I'm sure people totally got on before capitalism existed. No human or bit of nature was subjugated at all. Yep.
I donāt do it to feel superior.
Oh yeah, you seem real humble. Not like a member of a cult at all, nope.

Talk about childish insults lmao, I was just giving you a book recommendation because you were upset with how āvagueā I was.
no subjugation before capitalism
I never said it didnāt happen I just said it isnāt necessary. Reading comprehension gets better with practice, another reason you should read books.
Look man, Iām not about to sit here and go over all of human civilizations history with you. Thats why I told you to read a book. If you want to stay ignorant, go ahead.
Everything is temporary, including capitalism. Have a life.
0
u/ikinone Jan 21 '25
I was just giving you a book recommendation
With an implicit assumption I have not read it, much like the other slew of book 'recommendations' this circlejerk cult seems to use as a lazy method of condescension.
I never said it didnāt happen I just said it isnāt necessary.
It isn't necessary in capitalism, either. The argument that wannabe marxists use is that it is of benefit to capitalism to segregate the workers and drive conflict. That is purely speculative, and there's no reason it should be necessary.
Look man, Iām not about to sit here and go over all of human civilizations history with you.
As if you know it to begin with.
If you want to stay ignorant, go ahead.
The ignorance lies with the people who cannot engage with a point, only being able to spout 'read a book' incessantly.
Everything is temporary, including capitalism.
What a brilliantly vague deepity. Sounds like you're trying to tell yourself that one day a socialist utopia will arise, and all wrongs will be righted.
Have a life.
Yawn, back to the vague condescension, I see. Being passive aggressive is just pathetic, really.
3
u/Equivalent_Adagio91 Jan 21 '25
passive aggressive is pathetic
Better than being sarcastic š
it isnāt necessary in capitalism either
Really? Because you just spent several comments arguing that human existence requires subjugation, which would include capitalism.
Iām outta here.
1
u/ikinone Jan 21 '25
Better than being sarcastic
Really? I'd much rather be sarcastic. Each to their own, I guess. Glad you implicitly admitted it at least.
Really? Because you just spent several comments arguing that human existence requires subjugation, which would include capitalism.
I made a single tong in cheek response about it, reflecting the nonsense claim that capitalism requires it.
If you actually believe such logic, rather than just having heard someone else say it is true, you should be able to explain why capitalism requires subjugation.
Yet you can't and the moment the logic comes up, you bail. You know it's nonsense, but you'll keep religiously following such a claim anyway.

His heart sank as he thought of the enormous power arrayed against him, the ease with which any Party intellectual would overthrow him in debate, the subtle arguments which he would not be able to understand, much less answer. And yet he was in the right! They were wrong and he was right. The obvious, the silly and the true had got to be defended. Truisms are true, hold on to that! The solid world exists, its laws do not change. Stones are hard, water is wet, objects unsupported fall towards the earthās centre. I don't understand this idea in some left circles that China, and specifically the CCP is good, or better than the US.
-1
u/netn10 Jan 20 '25
China is less powerful than the US... for now. Let's see in a year. My bet is that Trump and Elon are going to change that very soon.
China is not a good country. The CCP is very bad. You wonāt hear me praise them, at all, but when I look at my country, I can draw a straight line between American intervention and everything that has happened to the Palestinians and Israelis since 1948. However, I can't draw a damning line between China and Israel, or China and any other country that would be a fraction of what America is doing right now.
That's all. We'll see.1

He did it like that so he can claim later he was just waving to the crowd and Trump.

"I was just throwing my heart to the audience! I didn't even say anything Nazi-esque! Look at all these wild leftist media so desperate for controversy that they'd say I was doing a nazi salute!" *wink wink, nudge, nudge*
God. I can't stand Elon, he's such an insufferable tool.

And somehow he manages to make it look more pathetic than the original Nazis

u/Thatnewwavefan Jan 21 '25
Ironic that my great grandparents left germany and went to the us to get away from nazis and now i am leaving the us to get away from nazis

I have to wonder what median voters will think about this if it ever reaches their news feeds, especially old veterans.

This is fucking infuriating. The Nazis have come out loud proud again. Itās time for us Communists to organize and proudly proclaim: Yes we are Communists, yes we want revolution and yes we will crush every fascist that crosses our path. Workers of the world unite!

The absolute worst part of this is that this is day one. This is before they have consolidated a power base, before they have cowed the media into submission, and before they have launched bogus investigations against their enemies to immediate the people into silence.
This is what they are doing BEFORE they have gotten enough power to insulate them from blowback.

One side of my family went overseas to fight nazis while the Jewish side of my family came to the us to escape them. Nearly two generations of my family were killed in the holocaust so to see it come home isnāt even enraging or saddening anymore itās just expected, Iām seriously considering arming myself now if all this is just day one.

man and he even sucks at Sieg Heiling, there is literally nothing Elon can do that he is good at
1
u/VivianVortex Jan 26 '25
"Um, akchually you can see he put his hand on his chest, and there was no official Nazi handbook stating that the salute needed to be done this way. He's really just saying that he puts his heart out to all the Nazis, not that he is one."

In a couple years we'll find out Elon died in 2010 and his entire existence is AI generated.

Have you seen these press pics of him? He often looks like a cardboard cutout: https://cdn.i-scmp.com/sites/default/files/d8/images/canvas/2024/07/27/4317676b-ebdc-468d-8fc7-241a07ddfe65_5dfaa856.jpg
