And in fact the US had up to 12 military bases in Greenland, which Denmark, a founding member of NATO readily consented to (as well as consenting to every US military request - including the US's call on art 5 of NATO to invade Afghanistan, where Denmark lost the highest no. of soldiers per Capita of anyone outside the US)- the US voluntarily downsized to 1 base after the cold war.
If there really was an threat, external to NATO, there is no reason to expect Denmark not to again consent to US military build up.
Of course if the threat is however coming from within NATO...
Because the US is still part of NATO.
Trump wants out of NATO.
Putin probably told him he can have Greenland as a strategical advantage after Russia manages to collapse NATO and will continue to annex European countries. The USA leaving NATO would be a really big first step for "Russian glory days" and Trump is already on board.
No, it fucking isn’t. And to even suggest the USA has actually openly considered annexing sovereign land this way before this team of crooks and grifters came in is insane and disingenuous. It is a HUGE shift in foreign policy ( if you can even call this sort of naked aggression that) to be talking like this.
If it were truly about the national security of the U.S., they could simply establish more bases in Greenland, as was the case during the Cold War.
What it's likely really about are the country's mineral resources, which will become accessible in the future due to global warming.
