I like the timeline with Bernie as president better.

But maybe I should grow a goatee, considering the timeline I exist.

There is sing tarrifs in a very specific way. What is happening now is madness. You really can't compare the two. That would like calling Bernie Stalin for hist social democratics stances.

Because tariffs work fine as part of normal trade negotiations with countries. Not random figures tweeted with no actual thought behind them.

I was about to say Bernie literally used to give speeches about how immigrants were why the American worker couldn’t get a living wage and how he would use tariffs to force companies to use American labor and price out cheap foreign goods.

He was basically Trump before there was Trump.

Bernie has supported tariffs in a very targeted manner against countries that use exploitative labor practices (such as child labor), to penalize companies that try to offshore, and for environmental purposes. Trump, well he just applied it to the entire world without really telling anyone wtf he actually wants in specific terms.

I can’t imagine Bernie going with a chart made by chatgpt boasting about made up reciprocality though

I mean, cheap, illegal labor does force wages down. This isn't really that hot of a topic.

You’re right, it shouldn’t be, but as soon as you bring up the discussion of how illegal labor directly impacts lower class neighborhoods by ruining the job market, people will start calling you a racist.

Bernie is also in favor of significant tariffs. I like a lot of the things Bernie represents, but given the moment I’m not sure Bernie would be all that much better.

There is protectionism and tariffs to protect local industry which Bernie supported and then there is crazy.

For sure he wouldn't do these crazy ass tariffs, hell, he probably couldn't even do it since the Congress should do that job
