I like this. Can we agree this is how we'll refer to April 7, 2025 when we're huddled around trashcan fires in the camps?

u/Inquisitive_idiot 18h ago
I’m sorry. Are you referring to April 7, 2025, the day the stocks fell, otherwise known as Orange Monday?
THAT Orange Monday? 🍊

u/One-Employment3759 16h ago
Orange Monday, April 7 2025, when the circuit breakers tripped all around the world and the hedge funds got margin called.

"We're going to have a greater depression, the GREATEST depression, everyone is saying..."wow, what a great depression you're going to create, it's really historic.."
It's going to be the Greatest depression, I think, some people think... I don't know... WHO KNOWS? Maybe... We'll see...
Depression what a great word...a wonderful word, depression..."

Oh god don’t remind me. I was arguing with people back then about how if you believe that Trump, someone who literally agrees with Israel wiping Gaza off the map, would be better than Kamala then I deadass don’t know what to tell you.
Lo and behold, when Trump announced how he would like to turn the Gaza into the Gaza Strip, they got hella quiet.
But yeah, Gen Z was fucked from the beginning.

It's simple: they're accellerationists. They don't want things to get better if it means incremental, moderate improvements. They have fantasies of revolution with themselves as the main character, happily ignoring the pile of dead bodies such things usually entail.

The whole week might be red. Not 4-6% each day but this is going to take time to price appropriately. It might be weeks or months before earnings calls and around then full blown recession hits the real economy making the next earnings call worse.
Unless Trump caves it might be a decade before we see February highs
42
u/therob91 19h ago
It might also be green for weeks or months, and still completely and utterly collapse. 1929 crash took 3 years to hit bottom and had multiple bull runs during that time, one was a 3-month bounce. Short term prices are volatile, period.
13
u/Spirited_Impress6020 15h ago

The difference is that the economy was pretty good until we got liberated. It would bounce back about +7% if no tariffs and we would be back on track other than needing to restore confidence in US markets. Unfortunately he is going to take over a year to "negotiate"

At what point do we call it a Depression as opposed to a Recession? How far down the rabbit hole does it have to go?
3
u/deliciouscrab 13h ago
A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. There isn't a hard and fast definition of a depression, but it's longer and more damaging and usually understood to involve much worse unemployment (double or triple the pre-recession rate, at least)

3
u/Alone_Owl8485 14h ago
