I don’t think people realize there’s a heating element inside the dishwasher lol

Not all dishwashers. Our Bosch doesn't have one. Doesn't dry dishes worth a damn, either.

Forreal. One of my old lady neighbors came and asked my husband to look at her dishwasher because there was a ton of smoke in her apartment and maintenance wasn't answering. A steak knife had fallen on the bottom of the dishwasher and the handle melted.

Same thing happened to my parent’s dishwasher though thankfully I could smell it and opened it before it got too bad.

It doesn’t need to be the heating element. Mine failed in similar way just by faulty circuit board in the door.

That particular brand has a very visible heating element at the bottom…
