Check out Split Rock too, since you're in the area. Locals hike it all the time, so it's a pretty well known spot and open to the public. Has an interesting and tragic history attached, 50 people died when a munitions factory blew up in 1918. local paper story

Bring a good flashlight/headlamp and a winter coat, the factory you can still get to is much colder than you'd expect this time of year. I'm not someone who usually gets thrown off by ghost stories, or has issues with caves, but that place did not have a comfortable vibe the closer you get to the factory. The hike around the quarry is nice though.
