Cleaning, Organizing, Decluttering On this fine day, I brought an entire bag of recycling on a 40 min train ride and into Rockefeller center.
I had a dental appointment in the city today, which I made on time !slow clapping in backgroundSo I thought I’d return some sweaters that didn’t quite fit since it was nearby and I was ontop of my ish today! What I didn’t know was I had been toting around an ENTIRE BAG OF FUCKING STINKY RECYCLING Y’All instead of the bag of clothes which I placed in the recycling bin outside the house🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ My dentist was like…cleaning up the planet I see?! He was confused as hell and probably thought I was an undercover nyc bag lady. In a desperate attempt to save face, I explained the situation which honestly raised more brows soo yeah lmao why am I like this?😩

The moment of discovery, I’m thinking bout that part too.

I went to put my clothes in the dryer, and there was all this wet, shredded cardboard in the washing machine. At first I thought it was a match book or something, but there was SO MUCH. When I found the plastic bag, I realized that I actually washed an entire box of cereal.

u/SpacePineapple1 Feb 15 '25
I once washed a cookbook along with a load of kitchen towels. The book did not make it.

u/xrilennox Feb 11 '25
similarly, i've brought my roku remote to work a couple times 🤣

u/ChewieBearStare Feb 12 '25
I nearly had a nervous breakdown a couple weeks ago because every time I turned on the TV in the living room, the bedroom TV would come on. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize I’d taken the bedroom remote into the living room with me.

Yep, took a cordless phone from work home! Put it in my jacket pocket. I guess I thought it was my nokia or blackberry, yes circa 2006.
21
u/gottafever Feb 12 '25
My mom once brought a cordless phone from home to the movie theater. 😂

It’s always so strange when you do something like that. Like, what are you doing here? You’re not meant to see the outside world.

I found my tv remote in my daughter’s (12) bedroom AT HER DAD’S HOUSE. I never go in their house so it was a fluke I found it. It had been missing for six months. I had to download a universal tv remote app to my phone.

I left the house with my work bag but left my phone and wallet at home so I had to create a LinkedIn account on my work laptop to message my partner to come pick me up from the bus stop. but I was too anxious to wait around so I walked back home 40 mins trip 😭 funny in hindsight

In highschool I accidentally pocketed some guy’s wii remote and had to awkwardly get my dad to drive me back to that house to leave it on the porch bcuz my little anxious brain was scared my dad would smell weed??? From in the car??? From me handing this guy a wii remote through an open door? He probably smelled it on me anyways??

I once walked out of the house with my keys, my phone, my purse, and…a bag of oranges??? Like, how did they even get there??? My kitchen is the room furthest away from my front door. And I had put a jacket on in between the kitchen and the door…which means I had to put down the oranges and pick them up again for their little field trip.

u/badashbabe Feb 12 '25
Thank you for including that detail! Love imagining all these little scenarios — the bag of oranges put down and picked up is great.

u/Unhappy_Aardvark_855 Feb 11 '25
I did something similar a week or two ago. Will sometimes bring it trash/recycling with me as I take the dog out for a walk. Forgot to actually stop at the bin though and just carried some recycling with me on our walk. I also once threw my keys in the bin because I grabbed them instead ofy dog's poo bag.

u/ChewieBearStare Feb 12 '25
That’s like when I had my denture in one hand (I have Sjögren’s syndrome, so I have horrible dry mouth and have had to get several teeth pulled) and a piece of trash in the other. Tossed what I thought was the trash toward the can, missed, and didn’t realize it was my denture until it clattered to the floor and one of the teeth broke in half. Cost me $140 out of pocket to get it fixed!

u/Trashyanon089 Feb 12 '25
I threw away my retainers once in high school. I'll never forget the kindness of the lunch lady as she helped me dig through the trash.

Yessssss! It's been particularly bad lately & I'm crying/laughing so hard! Thanks everyone!
I tried to put my water filter pitcher in the dishwasher next to the fridge. Opened the door, called myself dumb because THAT'S wrong! Then turned around and walked across the entire kitchen to put it in the pantry! I'm so done with myself some days!

I had two boxes in my car- one of stuff I got for my mother the next time I visit, and another to donate.
Guess what stayed in the car and what went to donations.
I can't even remember what all was in the mom box because she lives a 7 hour drive away, so I don't see her often and I was accumulating little things for her over the last few months!
Ugh.

u/ferretherapy Feb 13 '25

Yesterday while visiting my in-laws, I placed a pickup order for something important… only to realize after I arrived that I placed the order for a store near my house ~90 miles away.
Oh and because I already marked that I was there for the pickup before I realized my mistake, the store gave it to someone else and I’m out my money. 🥲
The worst part is I even remember searching for and selecting the correct store? How do I still make these mistakes even when I make a conscious effort NOT to?
61
u/lisamummwi Feb 12 '25
That wasn't your fault. The apps are terrible and always change the location when you get to checkout . They're supposed to verify the customers name before handing the order over. I'd make a stink about this one.

u/Librariann4575 Feb 11 '25
On my way to work once, and in a hurry, I grabbed a container out of the fridge that I thought had my lunch. I later discovered that it was in fact extra frosting from a cake that I had made for a co-worker's birthday the day before.
54
u/sojayn Feb 11 '25
Lol once grabbed frozen bananas instead of sausages. Kids not happy at the campsite that night!
24
u/rock_kid Feb 12 '25
I don't know. Camp fire toasted bananas sounds worth trying.
17
u/sojayn Feb 12 '25
Ha there’s more. I tried to save them by making a damper dough and encasing them. The dough cooked too quick, bananas still frozen on the inside, it was a schamozzle!
10
u/everdishevelled Feb 12 '25
If you decide to try th bananas on purpose, we make "banana boats" when camping. Split it in half and put in a foil packets with mini marshmallows, chocolate, fruit, whatever, and place in the coals for 10-15 minutes. Super yum.

u/nameunconnected Feb 11 '25

u/dellada Feb 12 '25
I am so afraid of doing this! Putting on a shirt is one of the last things I do before walking out the door to work. The number of times I’ve frantically checked in the car, halfway to my destination, to make sure I actually put it on… LOL :)
18
u/hungrybrainz Feb 12 '25
This is me except frantically grabbing my boobs in the car to make sure I remembered to put on a bra before I left. This is one of the things I have done a couple of times that blows my mind - I have no idea how I have forgotten a bra. It’s not like I’m a cute petite size that can go braless.
17
4
u/siyasaben Feb 13 '25
When I was 12 I went to school with a jacket on over a bra and no shirt. I think I had just put the jacket on to keep warm while deciding on a shirt and never got around to it. I was the type of kid to just keep my jacket zipped up instead of going to the nurses office to see if they had shirts or if they could call my mom or something, fortunately nothing happened
12
u/Kippy181 Feb 12 '25

6
u/HildawiththeAxe Feb 12 '25

8
u/Kippy181 Feb 12 '25
The matching thing is why I buy the same socks every time I get new ones. Black crew by Hanes
6
u/SeeStephSay Feb 12 '25
I wore my slides that I ONLY use to take the dogs outside into the yard to work once.
I went back home at my first opportunity and changed into my tennis shoes! So embarrassing!

I used to work as a home carer. I left one of my clients houses with a gopping wet pad to put in the bin. Took ages to get the smell out of my car.
Not as bad as a lady I worked with who forgot to drop off a stool sample at the Drs and carried it around in her handbag for at least a week. Although that was fairly well contained.

Once at work wore protective goggles on my face and walked out after my shift and went to slide them to the top of my head to give my face a break…. And there was another pair of goggles sitting up there already. No one had said anything to me the whole shift!
Also last year gave a big presentation and afterward realized that the large, bright earrings… were one each of two very different styles of earring.

OMPUPPIES I’ve totally done shit like this!!! Like I’ve done it so many times, I feeeeel for you! The latest was running errands with 2 hugely different shoes, think gray house shoe and a bight blue goofy crock with a flashlight on it that was gifted to me so I wear them regardless of how goofy they look. Anywho I didn’t realize until standing in a long busy checkout line after being out for hours. Oh my the walk of shame back to my car was fierce. How did I not notice the drastic difference in how my shoes felt?? That’s only the most recent thing I’ve done, believe me I’ve done way worse so don’t feel bad!

u/PirinTablets13 Feb 11 '25
Back when I worked in an office (I’ve been remote for several years now) I had to get ready for work in the mornings by doing everything in the exact same order or else I’d forget an important step. More than once I’d be walking to my car and it would click that my shoes felt wrong, and sure enough, I’d be wearing 2 different shoes. The worst was the time I forgot to change out of my pajama pants, though - luckily my lizard brain decided to alert me to something being off as I walked out of my apartment building. Still took a second for me to realize the problem was that I was professional from the waist up, and ankles down (because somehow I managed to put on dress shoes, but it still didn’t register that I was wearing pajama pants??), but the legs. The legs were the problem.

I got halfway to work with an empty reusable grocery bag instead of my laptop bag once. Apparently as long as I leave the house with 2 things in my hands and have *A* bag in the front seat, my brain registers that as everything being correct. I only noticed the error because I was like "Dang it, I forgot my hair clip.... maybe I have one in my bag -" and when I looked over, it definitely was NOT my bag.

I just found a bag of electronics recycling that I meant to take to the office where there's a drop off box. We'll, I did take it to the office and then I tucked it away under my desk with some other supplies I meant to organize. The whole stack has sat untouched since last July.
I needed a bag last night and thought I'd just consolidate some of those office supplies I still needed to organize and when I emptied it out I was so befuddled. Took me a while to understand what I was looking at because why in the world would I have an old remote control, loose batteries, and a box of ink cartridges in my office supply pile??
Anyway, errand complete! It only took me... 7 months.

My doctor’s office gave me a folder with a DNA swab in it to literally fill out a form and drop it into any FedEx drop-off.
I took it back to my doctor’s office yesterday after I found it while cleaning, and it had originally been done in OCTOBER. It is FEBRUARY. 😬
They took the folder, threw it away, re-did the swab, and I literally drove it straight to the FedEx store, filled out the paperwork there, and dropped it in their self-service machine! I wasn’t about to keep this one for another six months!!!!
For those interested: it’s a DNA test that is supposed to tell you which mental health medications work best with YOUR specific body chemistry/DNA. It’s called GeneSight and my “new” doctor’s office recommended it to me when I mentioned the literal years I have spent trying to find the right meds for ME. As for the cost, they say most people don’t have to pay anything, or very little, but the maximum out of pocket cost is $330, which I would 100% pay if it works well! Maybe I’ll update y’all when I get the results!!!

Yesterday was a fine day for me to show up to my gynecologist appointment exactly one month early.

Absolutely fair. I avoid leaving the house when it’s this brick outside 🥶
If the place I need to go isn’t right up in front of the exit/entrance of the subway, I ain’t going.

On more than one occasion, I have gone out of my way to make sure I did not forget to bring my phone charger to work... only to realize I forgot my phone. Lol

Kids first day of preschool and dad and I both take him. I literally just had to walk out of the house with the bag I had in hand. I placed it by the door to turn and grab something else. Got all the way to school just to realize we left his snow gear at home by the front door. This is my kryptonight, trying to leave the house with everything I need and not forget anything

This has me cracking up! It’s the sort of thing I’ve done. Sometimes I wonder if I had ADHD tattooed on my forehead as a warning to others if it would help but then I remember many NTs have NO IDEA about the struggle. Yet another story to tell your supporters! 🥳

I’ve showered with my airpods in. I literally said “I want a relaxing shower while listening to some music” and put my damn earphones in and got into the shower🤦🏽♀️

I was just making instant mashed potatoes and I scooped them into the Pyrex cup to pour into the boiling water and instead of doing that I dumped them into the dishwasher where the soap goes

I once got in the drive-thru line at Chick-fil-A and pulled up to the window. They asked if I’d ordered the xyz. I said no. Did you order xxx, I said no….. Then, they finally ask what I ordered but for the life of me, I could not remember. Turns out, I hadn’t ordered at all. I just hopped in the drive thru line, past the menu & speaker, and drove up to the window. Needless to say, the girls at the window laughed at me, lol. I laughed with them because it was funny as sh!t!

I put my cats food bowl in the washing machine today instead of the towel I was using to dry it.

I'm not the only one in here who's gone out wearing 2 different shoes, I just know it.

Several years ago, I was going to a march or rally. I was going to bike, but changed my mind to take the bus instead. Maybe I didn't want to get stuck with it? I don't remember. As we got close to the stop, the bus driver made some "fyi" announcements about surveillance on transit for all the march-goers info. I thanked him on the way out and he said, "as soon as you -a person wearing a bike helmet with no bike- I assumed you were headed there" 😅🤣 I had no idea it was still on my head. I actually dressed intentionally low-key, making it even funnier.

Almost all the remotes in the house have a Tile. Because sometimes remotes end up in the fridge. Or the wrong room.
