There are so many issues that are much more important than this. It's just another consequence of this presidency thrown in the dumpster fire.
Nintendo has officially halted the US pre-orders for the Switch 2 because of the tariffs. The price of it may increase also.
How many of us ADHDers and other ND people rely on cozy games to relax? I know I do!
Are there plenty of non-Nintendo cozy games? Sure. Are there other places to play those cozy games? Also yes. But! Is the switch the most convenient way to play for many people? Once again, yes.
On the plus side, maybe this will inspire a new category of Americans to care. Gamers! I bet a fair amount of non-gaming parents. So many kids ask or expect whatever new system is coming out for Christmas (the privileged and/or entitled ones anyway). Well, they can thank this administration for missing out on their fun new toy.
Speaking of which, the price for most toys is expected to go up too. Yay.
*Edited to fix a typo. There's always a typo.

Rant: Why is the US health system decided that the best way to deal with a disability that Checks notes: impares executive function is to make getting medication require extra executive functioning to access? Makes as much sense as putting wheel chair fitting on the third floor, no elevator. It only hurts people who need it, but little to reduce fraud or misuse. Also: I hope RFK Jr dies after drinking raw milk.

u/sommersunset 2d ago
I appreciated this article https://www.additudemag.com/make-america-healthy-again-ssris-adhd-medications/amp/ focusing on RFK and his “make America healthy again” crusade against meds including stimulants. Especially this comment: “The issues treated by the drugs the commission might target are all long-perceived by Boomers as flaws of character, something you can pray or willpower away, with enough discipline.” And “we don’t take these meds for funsies.”

u/Dazzling_Instance_57 3d ago
The political strategy being used by trump now is specifically made to fuck up people like us especially. Passing a lot of new laws and decisions n the first week is meant to cause confusion and fatigue

I know this may be an unpopular take, but I actually feel inspired by Elon Musk’s neurodivergent perseverance—especially his commitment to free speech and independent thinking. As someone with ADHD, researching his work really challenged a lot of what I thought I knew. It made me think a lot about how we treat ND people in positions of power, especially when they don’t fit our ideal mold.
Curious if anyone else has felt this way?
1
u/Fuckburpees ADHD-PI 1d ago
“Neurodivergent perseverance” 😆 Do you also respect that he’s a Nazi? Just curious.
He’s a nepo baby who hasn’t achieved anything, moreover he literally destroyed a social platform that changed the way people communicate.
He’s disgusting. A childish, predatory idiot and it’s really sad that anyone thinks he’s worth of praise let alone admiration.
3
u/VisualAnxiety4 2d ago
You are correct that this is unpopular. And everything after that was laughable. All of your reasons to admire Elon are copypasta from 2015 press releases and interviews. Never true but it sounded plausible back then. The Year is 2025. You have access to the internet. You can presumably read. Elon Musk ripped off the mask, and boy it's ugly. I don't say mean things about people because they have ASD, but have no problem recognizing that Elon Musk is a terrible person.
6
u/too_many_noodles 2d ago
I'm actually afraid people will use him as an argument against putting ND people in positions of power in the future.
I agree with the points made in the other replies, and I'll add that I simply think he's a terrible person. He doesn't care that starbase in Boca Chica is continually polluting waterways and damaging the surrounding federal wildlife refuge. He is dismantling government agencies, which will result in so many lives lost -- government agencies that he has no right to tamper with. He publicly dead named and seemingly disowned his trans daughter. And of course there's the nazi salute situation.
I can't think of a single thing I respect or admire about him.
11
u/The-Shattering-Light AuDHD 3d ago
What commitment to free speech? He platforms hate speech and actively squashes anyone who says things he doesn’t like.
What “independent thinking”? He parrots right wing bigotry, to the point where he abandoned one of his kids for being trans.
10
u/Dazzling_Instance_57 3d ago
Where are you getting his free speech stance from? He actively deletes and suppresses dissenting or negative opinions of him on X
15
u/StarryEyedSparkle ADHD-PI 4d ago
I do not agree, I actually think he’s a bad example. And a lot of his work is based off of others, Tesla was not his invention for example.
17
u/innitto 4d ago
Phew, no sorry. I think your opinion is valid and I also love ND people in power. But, personally I absolutely don’t like him. Also, a lot of what he prises himself on having built on his own, he took over or just pasted his name on. Dude does not even know how to code. He is also a mysagonist and when it comes to free speech… well we see what is happening on US campuses…He is just a person who is extremely privileged and took advantage of that privilege. I actually think he is bad for the reputation of ND people…
13
u/New_Girl_4D 4d ago
Agree with this. Just because someone is ND and appears successful doesn’t mean they are someone to look up to. Musk is doing some really shady and honestly illegal shit. Not to mention he actually gave the Nazi salute twice when he knew the world was watching. He is working with the current administration to take down this country for his own gain. And worst of all, people are using his ND as an excuse for his behavior. There are so many other people that are ND and are truly good people to look up to, for example, Temple Grandin.

Thank you for this! What a great idea. I’m newly diagnosed at 37. Meds have helped me tremendously and I feel these past months I’ve been going through an “adjustment phase” . I’m very good at pattern recognition and tend to put together the real intent before most people, by simply paying attention to the messenger. To say it’s been difficult to live through this is an understatement.
I’ve recently realized writing things out, having discussions, thought partners, human sound board, etc versus holding it in - or attempting to discuss with friends and husband who don’t share my rage - really helps me, like opening a pressure valve. I enjoy political, current events, factual reporting type podcast but it’s been so hard to listen lately without crying. But I refuse to stop trying to listen because I don’t want to be an ignorant woman or worst indifferent to the struggles of orhers.
This is perfect! Because I can get my frustrations, opinion , ideas, etc out somewhere and read others who feel the same - or maybe see a different perspective. This Reddit site has helped me so much so thank you all!

What's to talk about? We are non longer a democratic republic.
We are literally a fascist nation. Ran by morons, but deeply inhuman people.
We are entering the darkest period of US history. That is taking into account the foundation of the country built on genocide and slavery.
This country was so transphobic they were willing to sacrifice democracy just to exterminate us. We will be the first citizens to go to camps.
The judiciary has yet to realize it's powerless. No ruling will be obeyed. No attempt by congress to impeach or invoke the 25th amendment will be honored.
There will be mass protests and mass incarceration as there is no free speech. There is no due process.
Record poverty and homelessness will skyrocket crime further justifying the police state.
Tariff backlash from a unified EU will be used to justify invading Greenland. They already have laid the groundwork and have said military action is possible.
Am i missing anything? Oh yah, Russia and the US will be allies in a prolonged conflict carving up Europe, but that won't be until a year or so.
There are no politics to discuss. At least none online...
1
u/Fuckburpees ADHD-PI 1d ago
I feel this. Like……now what? We just wait and hope we make it? It’s all so much, I feel not only powerless but hopeless.

u/a_sillygoose 6d ago
I want to share this picture of a postal sticker someone wrote on with reddit, I feel like its really beautiful or maybe im just off my meds... (i ran out...) but I dont know where to post it where it might actually be appreciated.

I'm genuinely embarrassed to be an American right now. I used to have pride in our country. I can't believe that it has deteriorated into leaders telling blatant lies. Idiots like MTG being disrespectful to a British reporter. How has she continued to be reelected. I'm scared that either 1) the elections going forward will be more rigged that democrats will never regain control or 2) Americans really are that stupid and will vote to keep these kinds of people in office. I feel helpless. I do contact my representatives but just get republican talking points back, if I get a response at all. Why are Republicans going along with this? It feels so hopeless.
5
u/bearmama42 7d ago
If you haven’t seen Idiocracy by now, don’t watch it. Saw it before Cheeto Mussolini got in the first time, and was funny but depressing to see how close to it we were. Now it’s like a documentary. ☹️

‘Mind-boggling’: US CDC orders gender-related terms cut from scientific papers and halts funding for women’s health related research
In addition to ADD and ADHD healthcare at risk- the CDC has order gender-related terms cut from all scientific papers and has cut funding for women specific health research as part of the elimination of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
Among the many fields of research threatened by the funding cuts is the growing effort to curb the US maternal mortality rate, which is far worse than in other rich nations, and perimenopause/menopause research and support.
'Medical misogyny' is leaving women in unnecessary pain and undiagnosed for years.
I don’t care what political party you belong to, everyone should be outraged about this. Those of us who care about women’s health need to make sure that Add/ADHD and women’s health research isn’t obliterated.
4
u/SnooBananas7856 2d ago
If there was a way to somehow coordinate a boycott of sorts: women will not have sex with men for like a whole month. If that doesn't do it, do another month.
But I have to confess, I adore my husband and I have a high libido, so..... 😅 But my husband and I are incensed, especially as we have young adult daughters.
Also, our girls and I have a rare disease that NIH and the National Cancer Institute have been heavily researching for decades. Studying our disease has led to nine life saving cancer drugs, as of last year. They have saved my life several times. Rare cancers and rare tumours mean that there are very few surgeons with the specific experience needed. Many people wouldn't receive treatment without NIH programs. All those research protocols, including longitudinal studies, are gone. Fuck I'm pissed but I try not to think about it too much.
I cannot believe this is actually happening. I read a moment ago that Orwell's 1984 is now banned?! I mean, how the hell is this happening to us?
2
u/tigrovamama 2d ago
I am glad your disease has gotten research and attention, but I am sorry you and your daughters have the additional burden.
I too am shocked where we are but even more shocked how the majority are just sitting by and letting it happen. The tariffs on more than 180 countries is going to crush our economy. The US is not going to develop the climate to grow coffee, bananas, cocoa and coffee. Nor will we have the natural resources to meet our steel, aluminum, battery, etc., needs.

The 5calls app has excellent resources for scripts. You type in your zip code and click on the things you care about. It will show you a synopsis and updates, then give you a script and your reps’ phone numbers. It’s a breeze to use. I just wish I could get an accountability group going because task initiation is hard when dealing with the deluge of things happening.

u/onecoolchic77 7d ago edited 7d ago
Thank you for telling me about this app. I had called my representatives before but this helps guide me.

I can’t recommend these stickers strongly enough. Every time I call a politician, I get to reward myself with posting one on my next errand (4-5 if I have to leave a voicemail). It’s a game changer for waiting in line at the pharmacy.

Hello all! Tomorrow (well it was supposed to be today but I had a panic attack) is my first day back into the office after almost 5 years. Since being at home, my ADHD freak flag flies high, I don’t need to mask much, because I am at home and I get my anxiety out by cleaning or walking the dog. Now I am back to work 5 days a week, and am worried because I don’t have those outlets. Plus, I am sharing an office with 2 other people. Does anyone have any ideas on ways to help? I plan on bringing fidget stuff, but I can’t find anything that is silent, and no one is going to like a loud fidget thingy. It can’t be too expensive because I had to put our kids in before/after care now so that’s costing us an extra $1200 a month or so.
1
1
u/Nevergreeen 4d ago
I wear rings and bracelets specifically to fidget with.
Also, I subtly shake my foot or my leg. Shaking the muscle behind your knee is pretty innocuous.
1
u/solarizm 12d ago
highly recommend getting a fidget spinning ring like these, i have 2 and it helped me sooo much when i had jury duty a few months ago and was desperately trying not to fall asleep in the courtroom lol
5
u/fankuverymuch 17d ago
Do you know those hair bands that look like a coiled wire, like an old telephone cord? That has inadvertently turned into my new fidget and it’s totally silent and won’t look weird sitting on your desk (assuming you don’t have pixie short hair).
Can you get an accommodation to work from home even a day or two per week? I have no idea what’s involved in that but if you search the board, people have done it.

hey all! I’m new to this thread, and this is luckily the first post I saw!! I currently work at the state level in politics. I am VERY progressive (if this helps) and also have ADHD/suspected AuDHD. If anyone has any questions about the ✨government✨ or wants general guidance on anything, please let me know!! I am well seasoned and have personal experiences navigating life inside and outside the system as a nuerodivergent woman
2
u/Dazzling_Instance_57 3d ago
No questions. Just happy to see this bc I’m a recent poli sci grad and it’s comforting to know someone like me is thriving in the field.
2
u/spicyamericangirl 3d ago
It does mentally take a toll as I find I am not able to disconnect my emotions from the work. However, it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make as people like us are the best at our jobs. I saved someone’s life last week and I guarantee a neurotypical worker wouldn’t have been able to make the connections I did. You will do great! 🩵
1
u/Dazzling_Instance_57 3d ago
Thank you so much for saying that! Wow. Made my day. I also think justice sensitivity makes us uniquely equipped for this. I really want to help people.
3
u/Used-Ambassador-7269 16d ago
Hi I had a question. Do you know any neurodivergent political organizations we can join to meet other neurodivergents? Since the new administration came in it's sparked a new interest for me in politics and I would love a safe place to discuss it.
2
u/spicyamericangirl 12d ago
hey! To be honest: no. I am sure they exist, but all the ones I know of (in my state and nationally) exist for high needs folks in which other people are advocating on their behalf. There are none specifically for ADHD that I know of that have any recognition etc., so this would be a really good area to start coming together to create orgs/mutual aid groups. I would definitely say the neurodivergent community is one of the least represented in advocacy and political efforts by far unless they’re grouped into larger mental health efforts, which is still usually people advocating ‘on behalf of’. I know so many of us (organizers, political staffers, etc) who receive little to no recognition but we all kind of … just exist in the spaces. I would love to see some groups form in the near future tbh.

Last week, my psych said I need to get a drug test. I have been prescribed Adderall for 3 1/2 years. They seemed apologetic, I assume this is to make sure I actually take the Adderall, not sell it?

u/loudupstairsneighbor 22d ago
Yes, that's why they do it and to make sure you aren't taking hard drugs as well.

I called my Senator's office today!!
I used the script from the ACLU and wrote down notes to keep my brain from freezing.
https://www.aclu-il.org/en/talking-your-representatives
Specifically, I called my one Democratic senator who is waffling on how to vote on the continuing resolution bill. I called to urge him to vote NO.
I spoke to a very nice staffer and explained that this is our best chance for Democrats and Independents to stand together and tell Mr T and Mr M that we are not going to just give them everything that they want.
For more details, There is a very good writeup here: https://siderea.dreamwidth.org/1872873.html
Anyway. I made a phone call today and I feel very brave.

u/smelldog 20d ago
Proud of you.

u/Exiled_In_LA 20d ago
Thanks! For what it's worth, both of my Senators voted No.
Bernie was a hard No already so I only had to call the other one lmao. I should send Bernie a thank-you card for everything he does.

Anyone else’s executive function in the absolute toilet since the end of January? And ability to deal with customers?
6
u/AmIAmazingorWhat 13d ago
I'm spiraling badly. I can't focus. I haven't slept through a night in... 3 months? I can barely eat- I'll eat half a bowl of soup and feel like throwing up. I have $300k in student loans and left my job right before the election. I bravely quit an extremely toxic job, and was super proud of myself at the time because I am extremely bad at setting boundaries and standing up for myself. Then the country goes to shit. I have a short term contract gig but don't know what to do after that. I can't fathom doing interviews, relocating (again... for the 7th or 8th time in 5 years...) etc for a new job when it feels like the world is collapsing around me.
Can I just.... stop existing, for a little while? I haven't felt this bad since my first semester of Grad school when I was having panic attacks for the first time of my life. Now I just feel numb. Occasionally angry, but mostly numb.
Therapy is expensive. Everything is expensive. Haven't been able to find a provider to get back on meds in 3 years (and just don't care at this point).
I don't have anything left. I'm so tired.
2
u/Jolly_Ad9677 7d ago
I’m sorry. That sounds so hard and I can relate. Occasionally, I have fantasies of being hospitalized for a month or two and not having to do anything but exist.
2
u/BusinessArm5632 1d ago
Omg the hospital fantasies. I haven’t had them in a while but started again. I picture everything. The tray with the applesauce, the crappy blankets, the trashy magazines I would read (having a phone breaks the fantasy because then people could reach me and I’d have access to real news).

u/Stevioly 16d ago
Just found this and I’m grateful it’s here. I’ve been doing so many random things at work that I really shouldn’t have. At first, I just wanted to blame myself and tell myself how stupid I am, but then I realized my executive function is screwed up. I work for the gov and I’m a WOC. Every thing is crashing and I just know that my family and I will be more vulnerable than others simply because of our race.
I really need to cut myself some serious slack!
6
u/domesticbland 23d ago
I’m having the opposite response. I am actively engaged in every exchange. I deeply want people to start identifying themselves as a community. I work in the public sector and personally am terrified of bureaucracy. I want to be responsive and empathetic in application. I try to follow up to the best of my ability, but the reality is the government inefficiency has been its focus on budget over quality of service in line with stated intent. This is achieved using profitability and time as the metric. I am most productive when empowered and provided the freedom to fail.
14
u/v_rose23 26d ago
1000 percent. The extra stress from all this bullshit has made all my chronic conditions worse and brain fog up a ton. I'm in the worst functional freeze I've had for a few years. Just so much laundry and dishes and errands to do and I'm running on empty. I don't deal with customers but I do deal with students (higher ed) and there's other departments that are just not responding to emails and its just a lot. So yeah, I'm with you. I honestly can't even imagine having to deal with customers right now, I'd lose it.
5
u/Objective-Handle-374 22d ago
Me too. I’m a Canadian university student. Between the annexation threats and the tariffs— I can barely think straight. I’ve had ADHD paralysis all semester.

Free basic tax return preparation for qualified individuals including:
•People who generally make $67,000 or less
•Persons with disabilities (like ADHD)
You can learn more at: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/free-tax-return-preparation-for-qualifying-taxpayers
I've used https://www.getyourrefund.org/en for the past several years and have had great experiences, highly recommend especially since it's all online. I have no stake in this, just want to help out my peeps because taxes and society are rigged against us.
18
u/MadiKay7 Mar 04 '25
Is there a good sub to have full discussions of the intersection of politics and ADHD / neurodivergence?
Like how tariffs will exacerbate the Adderall shortage cause it’s made (if not completely, then components of it) in China?
9
u/GallowayNelson Mar 05 '25
That would be nice. I don’t like being forced to only use this thread because I find it hard to navigate. I mean I don’t need another place to doomscroll, but yeah.
11
u/i_eat_bugz Mar 04 '25
I’m so fucking scared of this. I’m on Vyvanse, and have been for 13 years. I will lose my job and everything else if I cannot get my meds, and I know I’m not alone in that.
7
u/Fair-Visual Mar 04 '25
This is definitely a big fear of mine, especially since I JUST got on medication (Strattera) for my ADHD that I JUST got officially diagnosed with last year after years of struggling with just about everything in my life. This medication is also for my anxiety (caused by my OCD), because otherwise, I'm a mess of panic attacks and mood swings. I cannot afford to be off my meds.
2
u/TropicalBlueWater 17d ago
Off topic kind of but is the Strattera helping your anxiety? I have a crippling combination of anxiety mixed with an undiagnosed mix adhd/ocd. Might take the time for official diagnosis if something could really help.
2
u/Fair-Visual 17d ago
It's been great for me! It's a non-stimulant, so it's meant to bring you down to keep you calm and focused. It's been really helpful for me since I have a history of struggling with anxiety and focus issues due to my ADHD. Definitely would recommend it!
1
u/TropicalBlueWater 16d ago
That’s amazing! So glad it’s working for you. I think I’d prefer something like that over a stimulant if it would work for me too.
8
u/MadiKay7 Mar 04 '25
Same dude. I lose my job if we privatize the Post Office, and I lose my meds if China stops making and/or providing components for them. :,)
I am so sorry, I hope it ends up ok for us! internet hug if you’d like one
2
u/Square_Treacle_4730 22d ago
Amidst all the other chaos, I haven’t seen the post office thing. Wtf is happening?
I’m gathering the oligarchs don’t want us to have access to ship things at a reasonable cost?
3
u/MadiKay7 22d ago
And mail in voting. It actually just got worse today lmao
The shitty soon to be former Postmaster General appointed by Trump last term is stepping down and first invited DOGE into make cuts.
2
u/cherrycoke00 11d ago
Aaaaaand he’s out. Dejoy quit today
2
u/MadiKay7 11d ago
✨we’re fucked✨
Personal rant: literally of course DOGE would likely ransack the Post Office (aka the reason I have a job) either on or the day before the day I’m scheduled to go wedding dress shopping lmao
1
u/cherrycoke00 11d ago
Noooo I’m sorry babe! At least they say the first cuts over the next 30 days will just be thru an “early retirement program” so hopefully you have at least a month. I’d say go get that dress tuning out the rest of the world - you deserve to treat yourself, shit is stressful as fuck rn.
And also… maybe apply for other jobs. As shitty as that sounds.
Idk what exactly you do but the little start up I’m at is hiring like crazy - It’s higher ed but VC funded, so we’re safe from federal cuts completely and just raised enough runway to carry us thru 2028+ (hopefully the last year of this nonsense). if you want to DM me I can send you/refer you for jobs we have that might work with your experience. No hard feelings if not tho, totally up to you. Wishing you the best
EDIT: obligatory link to hostile takeover bop - great to both jam and cry to

I’m terrified about the post office thing. I run a small business that has become such an immense life line for me, and no post office means no business. I’m so scared about it.

u/MadiKay7 Mar 05 '25
Me too bud, I’m on year 6. Hopefully it’ll be okay. :/
4
u/GallowayNelson Mar 05 '25
It’s been about four years for me. I hope we’re both okay. I hope lots of people are okay. This “administration” is just cruel.

Thank you ♥️ internet hug back for sure! I’m so sorry for you as well and I truly hope we’ll be okay
5
u/sisterwilderness Mar 01 '25
We’ve all seen the countless articles and Instagram infographics with lists of how to safeguard our finances, data, privacy, all that… except I cannot for the life of me comprehend any of it. The stress makes it impossible. Someone please, in very direct and clear language, just tell me what the f I’m supposed to be doing?!
6
u/too_many_noodles Mar 03 '25
I'm not expert. This is all so overwhelming. But here's a few things I've done personally. This is by no means an exhaustive list.
Made sure a pin number/passcode is set up with my phone company. Prevents scammers from being able to transfer your number and bypass 2-factor authentication.
I deleted most of my social media accounts. The ones I do still use, I check the settings regularly. They'll sneak AI stuff in that scrapes your data. Sometimes (definitely not always) you can opt out.
I force stopped and uninstalled a lot of apps that were sneakily added to my phone. I don't have auto update on, but they still sneak in there.
Make sure you have any important documents together, and put them somewhere that you'll remember.
I signed up for a CSA to get local veggies every week throughout the growing season. I'm afraid of grocery prices going up. A CSA is a big cost upfront, but I don't have to worry about prices increasing.
I'm sure there's a lot more things I should do. I need to look into it more.
3
u/Square_Treacle_4730 22d ago
I’m interested in CSAs but I can never find them in time! Any suggestions on where to look for them? I live in SC and we have a ton of farms so I assume we have them all over, but I never see anything til midway through the season. :(
1
u/Stealthmum 22d ago
Do you have a local farmers' market? Im in a city of 600k. We have a 7 days/wk farmers' market in a permanent building downtown, and weekly markets in many of the neighborhoods. Many of the vendors at my local weekly market also run CSAs. Showing up at the market regularly was a way to catch them in time. Then, once I had signed up once, I was on an email list and got early notices of the next year.
Bonus: pickup was always at their booths during market hours, which I already knew I could make it to.
Some are able to pro-rate a subscription if you sign up late, depending on whether they're full up yet. The more established ones may already be full, though!

I happen to live around a lot of farms, so I found one pretty easily. The first year I tried to sign up for it, I waited to long and missed out.
I think I just googled it. If googling CSAs near you doesn't work, maybe google nearby farms. Then you can look up the individual farms to see what they offer.
There is also a website that lists a bunch of CSAs. I think it's localharvest . org? I haven't really used it, so I'm not sure if I should link it. I think you can search by city for local CSAs.
Editing to add: It can be tough to find one, and I totally understand the struggle of not thinking about it until mid-season. You're not alone there. Good luck! I hope you find one that works for you!

u/Square_Treacle_4730 22d ago
I’ll look up the local harvest page! Hopefully it can at least direct me somewhere. We have so many farms it would take me months to get through and you KNOW I’d forget about 3 hours in. 🥲

Rephrasing it all to simplify and be more direct:
Make sure you have a passcode or pin number set up with your phone company. Nobody should be able to make changes to your account without it.
Delete any unused social media apps.
Are there any apps that have your credit/debit card number? If you no longer use the app, see if you can remove the card info. Then delete the app.
Check the settings of any apps you still use. The may be scraping your data, and you might be able to opt out.
Are there any apps on your phone that you don't recognize? If the app is not necessary for your phone to function, force stop or delete if possible.
Get important documents together and organized. Put them in a safe space you will remember.
Get a little extra shelf stable food when you grocery shop and/or maybe sign up for a CSA. Protects from rising grocery prices.

I’ve been doing the last bit with the grocery store. A few bits here and there. Trying to work on other things. I’m not very tech savvy. It’s all so overwhelming.

u/too_many_noodles Mar 05 '25
It is crazy overwhelming. I'm feel like there is more I should be doing.

u/GallowayNelson Mar 05 '25
Same. I felt guilty all the time. Plus angry, sad, scared, and a million other feelings.

Honestly I’m really sort of frustrated that we have to use this post only for any discussion of current events when our very existences are political. It is harder to have real conversations when it’s all on this post I feel like. I know my two cents don’t matter but I made a post because I was struggling and everyone’s comments were helpful until the post got taken down. These are not normal times. Nothing about this is normal. It’s just frustrating. I get that rules are rules, I thought my post was vague enough to post. The comments went toward politics I guess but it still seems silly. I hope posting this is allowed I genuinely am not trying to be difficult, but I am frustrated.

Can someone please convince me that Trump is not a Russian operative? Because he sure does act like one.
7
16
u/Xylorgos Mar 01 '25
Everything he's done is to make it easier for Russia to roll over the US and steal everything that Trump, Musk and Vance haven't stolen already. This is totally traitorous behavior, from naming completely inappropriate cabinet choices to firing as many US citizens as possible, all so he can punish as many people as he can, all at the same time. The cruelty is the point.
If something major isn't done soon, we will not have a country. It will be roadkill and will take decades to repair, if ever.

Does leaving voicemails for reps after hours count? I have phone anxiety but I can manage leaving VMs reasonably well if I have a script. But if this isn’t as effective I’d appreciate tips for overcoming this to call during working hours. I hate and feel so silly that something as small as phone anxiety is enough for me to lose sight of the big picture under fear/flight response, and keeping me from participating in something so important. It’s very important to me to do what I can to fight this, but all my fight leaves when I have to make a stupid phone call. If there is anyone else who experiences this and has tipts for how you deal with it, I’m all ears. Hugs to everyone here 🫶🏻

Yes, it still counts as long as you leave your name and your mailing address, including zip code

Thank you!

u/Xylorgos Mar 01 '25
Plus politicians figure that for every person who calls them, there are probably even more people who feel the same way but won't call. So each phone call tells them maybe 10 or 20 additional people feel the same way.
That makes each phone call much more important that just one call!

Everything sucks and I hate it. I have been various forms of dysregulated and depressed since November. Worst of all I've been drinking too much again, nothing crazy but I also know its a slippery slope. But its like my meds are doing NOTHING. I keep joking that RFK broke into my house and replaced all my adderall with sugar pills.
11
u/horseyjones Feb 25 '25
This scares me so much. I lost several hours to despair and fear today after reading about the target on ADHD meds. The hoops you have to go through to get ADHD meds when you have ADHD are already overwhelming and oppressive. My life falls apart without my meds. It makes me instantly anxious thinking about any kind of future without them. And then it makes me sad thinking that I’m only feeling a fraction of what trans people, immigrants, and government workers are feeling right now. Siiiiiighhhhh

I tend not to worry about noise like that until it happens. RFK is a quack.

u/wataweirdworld Feb 25 '25
Well this is good to see that some government leaders are pushing back 👍🏽 on this Musk bullying and wasting time and energy of so many workers 👎🏽
"A rift emerged on Sunday evening between Trump’s agency heads and Musk after leaders at the FBI, Pentagon, State Department, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Energy instructed staff not to reply to the OPM’s email."
And now he's backtracking again and confirming he's insane 🤬

u/coffeeblossom Feb 24 '25
Great resource: Using scripts. So, you've found your Reps and Senators. Well, that's great, but what to say to them? I know that, especially when I have to talk to voicemail, my brain turns to soup. So I fed in the cause I wanted, and "script" into my search engine, and just read it. It turned something that felt Really Hard into something Super Easy! :D

Advice on calling U.S. representatives?
My questions are on how to make being politically engaged more simplified, focused, and accessible. The political chaos has made it harder for me, but also really urgent and important. (And I think I’m not alone in being overwhelmed.)
I’m in the U.S., and I’ve recently been calling representatives in congress. Does anyone have a resource for how to phrase requests these calls? There’s a lot going on that’s very easy to call about, like “this thing is unconstitutional” but some issues are really complicated, or just weird, and it’s hard to know how to talk about them. 5 Calls has scripts on some things, but I’m not sure if there’s other places I should be looking.
There’s so much going on, and it’s really overwhelming. Right now, I’m trying to reach out about one issue each day. I’m calling my representatives, and also the Republican leadership in the House and the Senate. I’m working on putting their office numbers into one list in the notes app of my phone, so I can call them with one click and then check them off with a checkbox. I confirmed with the office staff of my representatives that leaving voicemails, sending emails, and writing written letters are all good options too, and that addressing just one issue per call will help the office staff of each representative accurately record the concerns of the voters. I also confirmed that it’s worthwhile to call the Republican leadership in Congress, even if they aren’t my reps.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you can have some moments of peace amid the chaos today. <3

Does anybody else find that the current events are making their symptoms worse? I feel a lack of motivation and focus when I used to feel like these were well managed with medication. I can tell if the medication has stopped working or if I am just having a regular human response to an intense amount of stress

Yes, very much so. I already knew that even looking at or hearing Trump makes me irrationally angry. When he got reelected, I was in disbelief. How could it happen again??! Then my depression worsened.
I decided to just not look at the news at all. That was great for a while, but I didn't like being in the dark. So, I looked at the news. I was absolutely floored with how awful everything is! I knew it would be bad, but this is off the charts.
I have been crazy anxious since. My sense of justice is overloaded. It has really affected my mental health. It seems like cruelty is the point.
The rest of this is a rant
I live in the country, in the southeast. No one here cares, and it upsets me every day. Some men in my state have gone door to door, armed and in tactical vest, looking for immigrants. It is insane!! I know for a fact all of my neighbors own multiple guns. Lots of people in my neighborhood still have Trump signs up.
It turns out that some of my family are just straight up bigots, and they are proud to admit it. I'm so disgusted and disappointed.
All of that was just my initial reaction, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. There is just so much other garbage going on. So many communities and demographics are hurting. I don't even know how to process it all.
I'm losing it. I hate all of this.

“Sense of Justice” omg I thought this was unique to me. You’re not alone this is very similar to my experience to this all (and the walking Orange)

Yes, 100%! I think part of the issue is that if we were in full-on crisis mode (which I mean, we are, but not to the extent that I am allowed to drop everything and run straight out the door), I would be able to laser-focus on what needs to be done. But instead I'm in this horrible waiting mode where I don't want to do any of my usual work, etc.. I am trying very hard to direct my energy to a community building event I'm hosting in 2 weeks that objectively will do more to make a difference than doom-scrolling right now, but even that is hard to focus on since it is a bit too delayed. I think I would need constant body-doubling by a personal assistant or something right now to be able to function at my best, but that's not really a thing I guess (although I would actually drop a reasonable sum of money to have someone suddenly appear and help me out for a limited period of time).

u/lottery2641 Feb 24 '25
YES. Especially because i spend so much time googling what crazy thing is being done next. i only get a solid 6-7 hours out of my medication daily to begin with, and half of it at this point is being used (a) arguing with dummies or (b) reading about what happened this hour :((

The party of small government and states’ rights does it again. They’re in our bedrooms, in our doctors’ offices, at the fucking pharmacy. Not for regulation, that would be the worst! But no thank goodness it’s just to tell us how to live every aspect of our GD lives. I’ve been staying off most social media but for sure all the libertarian bros are up in arms about this. Right? Right guys? They’re all over the media furious about being tread on?

I’m in a full-blown mental health crisis that started right after Trump’s inauguration. Not sure if it’s depression or ADHD symptoms (hello justice sensitivity and emotional dysregulation) coming out to play, but I have an appointment with my family doctor to ask about medication.
I’m absolutely disgusted that a decent portion of Americans, and even my fellow Maple MAGAs, support a convicted rapist and con man who is openly racist and misogynist. That it’s okay for them that a billionaire who paid zero taxes for his company which generated 11 billion last year is gutting social welfare programs to catch those sneaky poor people gaming the system. That the political philosophies underlying all of this are oriented towards installing a dictatorship run by oligarchs in place of what was once a constitutional federal republic. Look into Curtis Yarvin’s Dark Enlightenment if you want to stop sleeping at night.
Angry that my country is under constant threats of tariffs and even worse, annexation. I can handle it if my business goes under, but what I can’t handle is our way of life as Canadians disappearing. Our universal healthcare system, mandatory vaccine schedules in schools and hospitals, strict gun laws, human rights for LGBTQ+ and legal abortion are just a few of the values I hold sacred that are entrenched into Canadian law. I know this is just my lizard brain taking over but every time a new tweet drops about the 51st state I feel all of this is under attack and I. See. Red.
For my fellow Canadians reading this, get out and vote. Elections will be held in Ontario next week and soon, at the federal level. Look into each candidate carefully, their voting history on different issues. Whether or not they’ve been endorsed by Elon Musk. And probably consume less media than me, but just enough to make informed decisions.

Haha well this recalcitrant Canadian (I have dual citizenship, but I've never lived there) is on her way to y'all as soon as my trans spouse's sponsorship papers come in.
One more queer lefty vote coming your way!
5
u/Anxiouslytotingababy Feb 20 '25
You would be most welcome! I hope the paperwork comes in soon.
Also, love that you used the word recalcitrant. I wish more people in the US right now could adopt that personality trait.

u/NeverSayBoho ADHD Feb 20 '25
We both have ADHD and did the whole immigration process ourselves so, ADHD gold star for us.
It will be awhile, altho not as long as US processing times.

u/ericaxamerica Feb 20 '25
I’m curious about how Big Pharma companies in the USA will influence talks of the government cutting off supply to our medications, when they are profiting so greatly from us relying on them. It’s just a thought I’ve had with all the recent news. They have designed a system that makes unaffordable healthcare extremely profitable for them at our cost, so I’m trying to imagine how things are going to go down if all this RFKjr/MAHA junk moves forward. It might be wishful thinking on my end to not have my meds taken from me, though.
19
u/baethan Feb 19 '25
welp now I truly understand the meaning of doom scrolling. Any tips for staying reasonably informed on the state of the country while not falling into a depressive state? Is that mutually exclusive? It is all pretty darn depressing
10
u/EatsTheLastSlice Feb 18 '25
My life will really suck without my concerta. But if my mood stablizer and antidepressant are taken away I legit don't know how I will.be stable to do anything. I don't know if I will make it. I feel like I should start rationing my meds now.

I mean, they've pretty much fired half the govt. And they'd have to get all the insurance companies to throw a huge cash cow into the fire. So between their utter goddamned incompetence and the fights they'd have with other oligarchs, I do think sending us to work camps is going to be on the lowest end of likely.
8
u/lottery2641 Feb 24 '25
the only thing i have even close to solace, aside from big pharma stepping in, is that they really think they can handle putting a bunch of ADHDers in one place and expect them to do farm labor lmao. ngl i dont think they stand a chance at confining us 🥴 between hyperfixations im sure there's a group who can plan an escape route, it's thought that people with adhd have justice sensitivity so being confined wrongfully like that would kick our asses into escape mode gear, and we work better under pressure. not to make light of it (im freaking out tbh, this is all so insane) but i dont think they understand what they're getting themselves into
2
u/Pelli_Furry_Account Feb 19 '25
This is obviously, transparently, not about helping anyone. Certainly not anyone neurodivergent.
It sounds like they're pushing for authoritarian hard labor camps where people who do not conform to a standard go to be worked to death.
19
u/BushcraftBabe Feb 18 '25
I don't think the point is to get rid of mental illness or neurodivergence. I think it's to use us to replace the cheap labor lost by mass deportation but frame it as a good thing, like they do for most of the terrible things that are happening right now.
I think this is another form of work camp.
2
6
u/vediii19 ADHD-PI Feb 17 '25
i'm still just really flipped off about it. like, i knew they would attack neurodivergents even if they didn't directly state it, and here it is. this is indeed nonsense.

I made a post about RFK Jr.
I’m guessing it’ll get removed, but since potentially banning / restricting stimulant medication will affect SO MANY here, I’m hoping that we can have a broader-reaching conversation.
