Olympus Super Zoom vs Canon Sure Shot

Post image

I got this thrown into a deal on facebook for with an AE-1 and a bunch of accessories for $100. I wanted something that I could take on an upcoming trip with me and give to strangers to take pictures of us. I’m debating buying a Canon Sure shot for $50 over this. I can’t see to find much about this model of the Olympus. Either way I don’t think $50 for the sure shot is an awful deal.

Canon sure shot owl with Kodak gold. I usually shoot with an Om -4, but my friend brought her camera and it was so EASY. Might have to buy a point and shoot for everyday pictures now 😝

I'll admit I rely heavily on the light meter of my camera, but this image tells me to semi-avoid that now :/ Any advice on how to expose an image with a range of lighting like the first one? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I processed some 110 / 126 film found in cameras shot 40 years ago stored in the attic

My father in law found a duffel bag of old film cameras asking me to sell them.  Well they weren’t worth anything, but many of them had partially exposed rolls in them.

I developed the only 35mm roll with a 1 stop push and it was completely black (fogged).  I asked him where they were stored and he said the duffel bag was in his attic so I figured the rest of the rolls were complete toast too.

Anyway,  I mixed up another batch of c-41 but this time added 5ml of AF-2000 (an anti foggant).  These were 110 film (tiny) and I don’t have any reels that would fit.  So I just developed in a bucket.  I heated the developer to 39º C and developed for only 3:15 (to prevent more fogging) moving the film around by hand. Then rinsed, turned the light on and did the same for bleach and fix. They actually turned out!

The best of which are pictures of my wife as a baby!  The film has been sitting in these cameras for 40 years in the attic.  The first image is actually my wife's mom and was taken in the 70's. So 50 years old! The backing paper of the 110 / 126 film seemed to have helped preserve it.

First five shots are in the Great sand dunes on a sunny day. Six is a sunny day on a road with some shade. Seven & eight are indoor a well lit place, too much lighting? Last photo is of a neon sign in a restaurant with normal lighting, not too dark or bright. This was with Ektar, iso at 100 aperture set to auto, shutter speed at 500. Should my shutter speed be slower, do I need a hood? Any help on improving is appreciated, I’ve gotten two really good rolls out of this camera but my last two have looked like this

Needing advice

Hello everyone, I'm new to this whole photography community and wanted to ask advice on what my very first camera should be. I'd really like a vintage look and it shouldn't be all too expensive. I'd prefer a camera without film I'd have to develop. Thank you all and have a wonderful day👋

Help Wanted Hi!

I’ve had a 35mm film inside my camera for like 5 years now and I’ve only used 7 pictures. Would you say it would be ok to use the rest of it? It hasn’t been protected from temperature changes but it hasn’t been exposed to extreme temperatures either

XPAN Photo Walk — Rangefinder Woes & Foggy Wins

I took the XPAN out on a foggy morning with a roll of Portra 400, expecting a calm, cinematic stroll… and ended up discovering the effects of a misaligned rangefinder after shooting the whole roll.

Thankfully, I found a guide from @mikeno62 on YouTube, grabbed a micro screwdriver and some blind optimism, and adjusted it myself. Terrifying? Absolutely. But it actually worked — and the camera’s still in one piece.

These are my favorite shots from that roll and I recorded the whole chaotic journey in a YouTube video — from fog to focus fix. It’s very casual, very film-nerdy, and probably too honest.

If you’ve ever trusted a rangefinder too much or just enjoy fog and birds doing weird things, we’ll probably get along.

How to clean this mould/corrosion?

Post image

Hi,

I've had this camera on a shelf for a few years and thought it was dusty. Closer inspection is this green mould (I think). The top layer cleans off with rome rubbing alcohol on a cotton bud but leaves a layer of the green speckle. Any tips of how to clean?

I wonder if someone can help me in here. I bought this little cameras a while ago but haven’t used it yet. It seems to be working only the battery was gone. I changed it but the light meter seems not to be working. It moves a bit but that’s it. My question is: will I be able to shoot something if the light meter is not working? I don’t think so but would like to hear what you think. Thanks!
