Rant 😡💢 I hate my job because I have to work with Trump supporters.

8.3k Upvotes

The title basically says everything.

My boss(Italian) and coworker (American) are Trump supporters. In fact, the American coworker gave the boss a Trump mug for Christmas. Sometimes they will talk about how Trump and Elon are helping the United States and the left are just being unreasonable. The worst thing is the coworker is sitting next to me. He used to say if we stop helping Ukraine, the United States could give everyone free college education. Yeah, but Trump isn’t going to do that dude.

I can choose my friends but not my coworkers. I used to think these two are nice guys, but now I’ve lost all respect for them.

Edit: Some comments suggest that I should go to the HR. First, there’s no HR. This small company is in a third world country, and the Italian guy is the founder. Talking about politics in the office isn’t a taboo here as well. I can’t just tell them to stop talking about politics. I don’t know why, but the Westerners here are all Trump supporters. On the other hand, those who are from third world countries, including me, are against him. Maybe it’s because we know what dictatorship looks like as we’ve experienced it in our countries? As I said before, talking about politics isn’t a no-no here, so I know that 50% of my colleagues support him. But yeah, I should look for a new job or work as a freelance. I’m working on that right now. But it’s so draining to listen to these people.

Edit 2: I once talked to them about what Musk’s doing. They agreed that it’s probably for personal gain and ego boost, but at least dude is contributing. When I pointed out that no one elected Musk, they said a government won’t function if everyone inside has to get elected before working there.

Backstory: I experienced sexual abuse. My parents are immigrants, and my sister is a lesbian. A friend of mine is stuck overseas because of the funding cuts. I can’t just GROW UP and ignore them.

Rant 😡💢 Feels fucked up I’m going to work while Trump openly announcing his Dictatorship

18.3k Upvotes

Trump and his 1% buddies are openly threatening to dismantle the government, denaturalize/deport immigrants, threatening political opponents, and tariff our imports to further inflate our economy until it pops. I’m here getting ready to go to work… it’s just surreal. All the warning signs for a fascist hitting office, and some are fucking cheering! The US, a keystone in stomping out Hitler, just elected Cheeto Hitler and it’s driving me crazy.

A lot of people are saying keep your head down for the term and it’ll blow over, but how can I when Trump has all the tools to “Legally” throw away future elections. When he’s threatening political opponents, any queer person for just existing, legal immigrants, public services that MILLIONS OF AMERICANS NEED TO SURVIVE. The wealthy continue to squeeze the US like an orange peel, either for self interest or foreign influence. It’s baffling…. And I’m still getting ready for work.

A lot of people are tired of the meat grinder the is living in the USA. Hell the Healthcare Shooter is an obvious sign of that. But the spirit of the workers, the day to day laborers, feels broken. We’re all dependent on our jobs and public services to survive, unless you have enough money to “fuck the system”…. And I’m getting ready for work.

I’m just fucking tired. Tired of being scared. Tired of worrying if me and my husband are gonna be arrested and executed in a few years because we’re gay and love each other. Tired of struggling to find higher paying jobs only for cost of groceries, expenses, and medical care to rise. Tired of the media not calling a leopard a leopard. Tired of ignorance and hate being disguised as religious righteousness. Tired of blatant hypocrisy. Tired of people worrying about the cost of eggs, instead of half the government openly welcoming Fascism…. And I’m getting ready for work like so many others.

Why?

Because I have rent due and bills to pay. Just like my neighbor, just like my mom, and just about everyone here.

Edit: to all the comments saying I’m being hysterical. I hope I am. I hope I’m proven wrong. I hope nothing goes wrong the next few years and we move on with the next guy in office. Because I’m terrified if I’m right.

Rant 😡💢 Angry rant ahead: I was a federal employee

10.4k Upvotes

I am so pissed off about federal employees allowing Musky Nazis into federal buildings.

When I worked at the IRS? We could be written up or terminated for leaving a completed taxform sitting out when we left our desk. This was inside a building full of people who had to get clearance before being allowed in. Same for giving someone a taxpayers information over the phone without verification. And trust me, every fucking day I had to deal with people trying to get information that they weren't supposed to have.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why so many federal employees stepped aside for this bullshit. A federal employee CAN NOT get fired on the spot. If anyone came to my desk and told me to give them access to my computer? It was my duty to protect that information and deny access without credentials. Why was my GS-04 to GS-08 level ass held to a higher standard then the motherfuckers who stood aside? I would really like an answer.

Rant 😡💢 I have a theory that 99% of bosses would be slave owners if it was legal

9.4k Upvotes

They expect you to work like you have no life outside. I'm sick of seeing them complain when an always punctual person is late. They could be having the worst day of their life, something horrific could have happened, but they inconvenienced your day because you don't put enough staff on so you have to blast them to the whole workplace.

I'm sick of peoples time off requests getting rejected eventhough they are there every single day and even help out when they're needed.

I've seen so many friends become a shell of their happy, fun loving selves because of their job. But they stay because there's a golden carrot infront of their nose.

They will have you ruin your physical health without a single thought as long as you're getting the targets met.

And if it's all too much for you, and your human needs pop up and you're overstimulated, hungry, tired and forgot how long it's been since you've had time for skin care and self love, don't you dare cry. One tear and the shred of humanity that your boss saw in you is now gone. You are no longer human to them because you behaved like a human.

That is all

Rant 😡💢 Only women have the obligation to clean both female and male toilets here. I feel I am back to the past.

2.6k Upvotes

I work in an office and I was talking to my colleague about female tasks here in Japan. I am a foreigner.

In this company only women have to clean all toilets (women and men’s toilets). Also our cafeteria and break time room are women responsibility to clean.

We are all office workers, but we have to clean toilets and everything in the office. Why do only women have to clean here?

Edit: I don’t know how my tag changed to this angry red tag. I’m not angry at this situation. I want to understand it.

Rant 😡💢 After giving my two weeks, my company has decided it will not pay for my flight home.

3.9k Upvotes

I work as a traveling supervisor for a cable/construction contractor. The company I work for is a large corporation in the industry and has more than enough money to be able to afford paying for travel and lodging for supervisors when in the field. However they have now decided that, despite being a good little employee and giving my two weeks notice, that they shouldn’t have to fly me back home from my current assignment.

I have worked for this company for 3 years, came up from the bottom as a technician to supervisor for a smaller company that gave a shit about it’s employees only for it to be bought out by a corporation. One that laid off half the company and gave a middle finger to the rest of us.

I thought giving my two weeks would make a nice bridge in case they ever changed policies, ever became better but after this I hope the company goes belly up.

TL;DR Fuck corporations, don’t give your two weeks just leave. P.S. if you have a company card just buy yourself a ticket home, fuck are they gunna do fire me?

EDIT: For the people commenting “don’t quit while away from home” I’m on the road nearly %100 I almost never go home, once every 4 months I would get sent home for a short stay of remote work from home. It’s never consistent nor is it guaranteed, I would be waiting for an extended period to put my two weeks in and while I don’t trust nor like companies, I didn’t assume they would fuck me like this. So forgive my ignorance I guess.
They also do not pay for travel home for vacation so before someone tries that angle I’d have been in the same position.

EDIT 2: like I said in the TL;DR DO NOT PUT YOUR TWO WEEKS IN These corporations don’t give a fuck about you, they will fuck you they will take advantage! I shared this just to share what I’m going through. Annoying that a lot of dickheads came here to act like they know everything and I’m an idiot for getting treated like shit. To everyone relating, giving genuine advice, and sympathizing you rock!

Rant 😡💢 Had a customer ask for a manager because their food wasn’t ‘Instagram worthy.’ I’m done.

3.8k Upvotes

Today, I had a table where the customer asked for a manager because their food didn’t look “Instagram-worthy.” I’m not even kidding.

After trying to explain that food doesn’t always come out looking like a Pinterest board, they still demanded a refund.

We’re expected to be part time therapists, and full time punching bags for customers who think we’re here to cater to their every whim. I’m beyond fed up.

Rant 😡💢 Does anyone else get irrationally angry when retirees go back to work just cause they're bored?

1.6k Upvotes

Just to be clear, not talking about those who need to go because their retirement plans weren't enough. I'm solely talking about those are financially well off enough but choose to go back to work because they want "something to do." I mean of course it's their life. Do whatever you want. But just knowing that I may not even be able to retire, at least comfortably, just fills me with resentment. I'm like "give me your pension and 401k then lol." When I'm bored, I can find SOO many other things to do that don't require having to report to an irrational boss and insufferable co-workers. Am I just crazy?

EDIT: Btw to be clear, my anger is directly at the system. I was under the impression we were on the same page with that. I was just referencing a side effect of it is all.

Rant 😡💢 Fuck self checkouts

27.8k Upvotes

Had to brave Walmart for the first time in quite a while to buy some ink for my printer today. I know. Realized they have nothing but self checkouts. Walk up next to one where a guy is taking items out of his cart and putting them in bags without scanning. Look at his screen and it says "Start Scanning Items". Watch him finish up his full cart and walk right out.

I'll be honest, for a short second I thought of grabbing someone. I looked around at every register being a self checkout and thought how many lost jobs these have caused and we are now doing their work while paying them for the pleasure of shopping there. Watched him walkout and get to his car. I applaud you random Chad.

Fuck Walmart and fuck self checkouts.

Rant 😡💢 Workaholics are THE most annoying people on earth

2.6k Upvotes

I'm not making this statement purely for the "Anti-work" Reddit Forum. I have always found "workaholics" to be genuinely THE most annoying people on earth.

They are the worst combination of problematic traits in a human that could possibly co-exist. Addiction (but usually there is a strong denial of their addiction), self obsession/ vanity, slave mentality ("I can work more hours than anyone else because my entire self worth is based on working an obscene non-human amount of hours"), narcissism, a strong adherence to the capitalist system and an inability to see beyond or that there may be another way. With most workaholics literally all they talk about is work and gossip about other people that they work with. They always say yes to extra work like they're being given a gift from God (A.K.A their employer). They constantly post pictures of themselves on social media when they are working and rarely post anything outside of work. They talk negatively in secret about people who don't work or cannot work due to health problems or any other reason. Many of them used to have addictions to alcohol, or other drugs and they replaced that addiction with money and working non stop.

These are all just some of the traits that I've observed in "workaholics". They annoy the living fuck out of me.

Rant 😡💢 My manager just threatened to fire our ENTIRE NIGHT SHIFT because one employee is on METH.

3.3k Upvotes

My girlfriend is currently manager right now . Today was supposed to be my off day. I'm currently in helping her serve. OUR COOK IS METHED OUT OF HIS MIND. We called our general manager who works with us because our one and only cook is methed out of his mind and is taking extremely long to bring out orders. We don't know what to do so we called and now our entire crew including employees that aren't even here will be fired if THIS ONE PERSON doesn't get it together.

Edit: The cook has stopped bleeding, and put a bandaid on his face, it was never like dripping blood everywhere though I ABSOLUTELY still understand the concerns and potential problems which is a part of why we wanted to close). Things have gotten better he's doing better now.

And for people asking why he isn't fired, I HAVE FIRED THIS COOK TWICE. There's a reply on this post about it. Our GM keeps giving him chance after chance after chance.

Rant 😡💢 new boss sends a Teams message at 4:30pm on Fridays

1.4k Upvotes

In this job we can work from home 2 days per week. Most people choose Friday as one of those days.

My team got a new boss about a month ago. It's now apparent that he is going to do this most Fridays - send a message late in the day and see who responds, showing that they are at least at their computers. This week it was just a "great work everyone!" message. Nothing that absolutely needed to be sent.

I had another boss like this, years ago before Teams was a thing. He would always be out of the office on Fridays but would call after 4pm to check up on us.

Such bosses are so dumb. WE SEE YOU. Great way to alienate your employees.

Rant 😡💢 Why the FUCK do we just accept the existence of split shifts??

2.4k Upvotes

I don't even work split shifts myself, this is second hand outrage. I know people who basically spend 12 hours at work every day and get paid 8. What happened to the standard of 8-8-8 that was established during the French Revolution?? In the 18th century they knew already that we need 8 hours of sleep and 8 hours to do chores, commute, and have a fucking life. Well, forget about that. I know a guy who yesterday got up at 6:30 am, left the house at 07:00, worked from 08:00 till 12:00 and then had to sit in the break room for FOUR UNPAID HOURS, just waiting for the second shift that went from 04:00 pm till 08:00 pm. Then go back home and it's 09:00 pm. Rush to do chores and shit that needs to be done, and luckily he got 6 hours of sleep. Oh, but he only got paid for the 8 hours he worked. Fuck the 6 hours he lost commuting and waiting for his second shift. This shit is very normalized where I live and it makes my blood boil just thinking about it. The audacity, the greed, the CRUELTY of stealing people's lives like that, sucking every minute of their day, only to pay them the same.

Why can somebody's life be destroyed like that for the salary of someone working 9 to 5?? There's no special retribution, there's NOTHING. They have a choice to force employees to spend every hour of the week at work for the same fucking price and zero consequences. WHY THE FUCK ARE WE ALLOWING THIS????

5.2k Upvotes

Pulled up to the building, tell them I'm here for my 8 a.m. interview. Guy looks at me like I have 2 heads and says to me "That interview was cancelled, no one told you"?

This interview was set up on Monday for today. They had 2 1/2 days to let me know.

Fuck all this.

Rant 😡💢 I build houses for a living but can’t afford one- the cruel joke of modern life.

2.8k Upvotes

By trade, I’m an artisan of stone. A single artisan in the grand tradition of craftspeople.

Well, more simply, I’m a builder.

Oh, how I like to think if I so pleased I could just go and make my own abode, seeing as it’s what I already do for a living. But hark! My passions have driven me to a life of labour and general state commonly referred to as ‘being broke’, and for this, have not the depth of pocket to purchase a property. The paradox being I’ve enough money for a deposit but do not earn enough for a mortgage.

My options present themselves as such: either I can buy the land or either I can buy the material. Neither of which constitute a home.

Pondering the plausibility of building out of mud, or straw, or stone I’m forced to acknowledge I’m unable to take a year’s sabbatical to build my dream home because well, I’m too busy building the homes of others.

Perhaps I could dwell in a quaint shack? Take the ‘rustic farmhouse’ look a little bit too literally with the materials provided by Mother Nature. I did do a survival course when I was twelve…

No, the police would surely object, huffing and puffing and commissioning the demolition of my twig house citing, structures from Le bâtiment du France’s building regulations.

Dreams whither like plucked meadow flowers when confronted with the practicalities of getting on the housing ladder, and thus I’m compelled to buy within my budget.

A plot of agricultural land in the middle of nowhere, it looks to be. I’ll just dig a hole in the ground and live as a badger.

Rant 😡💢 My coworker smells like shit

1.6k Upvotes

The title. I've been working at a pharmacy for nearly a year now and every day my coworker comes into work smelling awful. She smells unworldly, I can't even describe the odor. It's not B.O. but an amalgamation of scents formed together to create one god-awful stench. She genuinely smells like she hasn't bathed in months. She's not homeless, she's not in a crisis, she just smells. She's a chronic oversharing so I know a little too much about her than I'd like to admit. She knows she smells bad, she doesn't care. Countless others and I have reported her to HR and nothing gets done—there's never a day where she doesn't smell offensive. My boss could give two shits and brushes it off every time. Coworkers have approached him, asking not to be scheduled together. My boss is so full of himself. He claims he can't let her go. His reasoning you ask? Because she has weekend and night availability and no one else does. Or at least, he can't hire anyone else with night and weekend availability. I am at my witts end and I'm so burnt out. I'm trying to convince myself I can stay a little longer. If I continue to work until the end of the year, I'll receive a nice bonus. Not only does she smell, but she constantly makes inappropriate remarks about people (& countless HIPPA violations...). She once blurted out that she "fucking hates" Hispanic people. Nothing was ever done about that too, no warnings just nothing. I don't know what to do. I want to get certified but I also don't want to pay for the exam out of pocket. Help.

Rant 😡💢 Went to Burlington last night was pissed at what I saw.

1.3k Upvotes

For anyone outside the US, Burlington is a clothing and home decor store. Known for their “discount” like pricing and wide selection of merchandise from clothes, coats, kitchenware, hygiene products, etc. it’s like if Homegoods, Marshalls, and CitiTrends has a kid.

When I got to the registers, I saw ONE single cashier on and a line about a mile long. People with full carts and I could tell this cashier was annoyed. Idk if he was the only employee in the store, but nobody came up to help him. Thankfully nobody in line was a dick about it.

I know it was possible that because it was at night, the store scheduled lighter. But I saw the same thing previously! Only this time it was a Sunday afternoon, only one cashier left to deal with a fuck ton of customers that had full carts. The cashier apologized for the wait and I told him it’s cool.

But I used to work in a grocery store. I know what it’s like to call for backup on register and have nobody come up. There were times I radioed multiple times and I ended up dealing with the line myself, and I wasn’t even a manager. When I got home I emailed Burlington to let them know of the understaffing at this location, but I made it a point to let them know how hard the cashier was working.

Idk if someone will reply but I don’t really care. Stuff like that is one of the reasons why so many retail workers quit in droves. Also one of the reasons why managers can’t find people to take these jobs anymore. Because who wants to be the only one stuck dealing with a long ass line of people with zero help?

Companies like this, are why “nobody wants to work anymore.”

Rant 😡💢 Food Delivery Drivers With Children In The Car Are Peak Dystopia

2.6k Upvotes

I work weekends at a security shack for a location with very wealthy residents - judges, lawyers, generational wealth - and they causally tend to order non stop food since the cost is nothing to them.

I was speechless at first but now just bummed about it whenever I see a cascade of Uber eats or door dash drivers coming through and they’re either with their children, they’re older people who should be retired or people who can’t speak English all too well so they struggle to find meaningful work.

Last night there was an Uber eats driver at 2 am who had her two children in the backseat asleep and it’s just been messing with me since then. How fucked are things that it comes to that?

Rant 😡💢 "wE wiLL tAlk mOrE aBouT tHat In PeRsOn!"

2.8k Upvotes

This has happened to me twice this week. I ask any detailed information about a position before getting in a business suit and driving to an interview. These are general questions about hours, benefits, or weekends since I have another job.

The hiring manager blows me off entirely and says "we will discuss that in person.".

The one job was posted as "weekdays". This is good because I work weekends. I asked the hiring manager before my interview if it included days on the weekends because I can't do weekends. He wouldn't tell me.

He brings me in instead and tells me today it's 5-9 weekdays and "whenever they need me on the weekends". He says if I can't commit to that I can't work there.

If he had just told me that, I wouldn't have interviewed and wasted both our time.

Another job had no information about benefits. I had to go in, sit down, ask about benefits and basically say "Oh ok thanks bye" and leave.

Why waste everyone's time? Do these companies enjoy this?

Edit: Yes I am aware of the "sunk cost fallacy" but it baffles me that I am up front and tell employers I have a weekend job and they still bring me in, sit me down, and ask if I will work weekends. I have started telling them all "I have no weekend availability" and they STILL want an interview just to ask if I will work weekends.

Rant 😡💢 Your time means nothing

2.7k Upvotes

I drove 45 minutes to a job interview today. I am used to working close to home and know not everyone has that luxury. I decided it might be good for me to have a slightly longer commute and maybe I was limiting myself

So I drove 45 minutes to this interview. I walk in at 1:26. Interview starts at 1:30. She takes me right away. After what seemed like forever, she left the room, so I peeked the time. It was 2:20.

She proceeds to come in and talk another 30 minutes. Random stories about this and that, nothing related to me or my position or my eligibility.

She goes on to explain the position is 9-5. However, I'm expected to be there at 8:30. And 5pm is only slowly "shutting down" time, not "run out the door"

So it's really 830 to 530

Then she tells me it's a one hour break....but no one really takes it and usually they just eat at their desk as they are "eager to get work done" and "nothing is around here anyway"

At the very end she tells me the salary- 39,000 a year. I currently make 50,000 doing the exact same job and am looking for better pay and more importantly, a better environment.

If I didn't say I had to leave at 3:15, I'd have been in that interview for over two hours.

What an absolute disregard of my time.
