My office is about to change for the worse.

We've heard of Amazon and others having RTO. With this RTO we're hearing reports of not enough desks at locations.

My firm is now changing from using all five floors of our building to being consolidated to 3 (three) floors. Here's the rub, they are going from 1k desks to 500 with an open seating. Most of those with offices (C-Suite, Directors and Managers) will now have a desk in this open area. The open seating with be known as “Neighborhoods” and no one will have a permanent seat. If you want a seat you'll need to use the app to reserve a seat. Oh wait there's more we still have a standing eight required badge swipes a month. So it's a hybrid that you need to be in the office for two of your five days and if you fail you can and will face termination. The badge swipes will get worse as you'll (from what I've been informed) swipe to get in and out of the floors/building.

Then there's the lockers they are installing. So since you won't have a permanent desk you'll have a locker. It's unknown if locked or unlocked and or bring your own lock but they will have lockers for your personal items. Again (from what I've heard) they currently do not have enough lockers or lockerspace. So you'll keep your personal items in the locker and will need to bring out everyday you are in the office (mouse, keyboard, headset and other items) setup your desk and then put away when completed. Unknown if the shared desks will have one, two or even three monitors but knowing the (company) monitor standard you'll have one and the laptop screen for a second.

This came as a surprise to all the staff at this location even the C-Suite execs weren't informed. This is being spearheaded by Corporate that is not US based but is Israel based. They have no idea about US standards and regulations. The overall cost (again from what I've heard) is over $500k for this massive renovation. Things are still being discussed and plans change daily and weekly but rest assured this is happening to us and soon all (company) locations.
