1.2k Upvotes

i can’t do this.

i can’t do this for eight hours. i can’t listen to people grabbing their things, the sound of plastic crinkling, or children crying, or the radio on the overhead, or the lights. i can’t stand sitting at a desk and staring at a screen. i can’t do it. i can’t buck up. i can’t power thru.

and ppl act like this is normal, and ive never been so alone.

i cant do it. i cant i cant i cant. it’s more than just hating it. it’s more than just being sad, or stressed. it’s a scream in my gut that i can’t force out, because no one listens.

i can’t fucking do it.

Saturday I will be putting my notice in at my job. I’ve developed such a love for what I do but I simply cannot stay there. I’ve grew in the company to management, and it would be my 4th year working there coming (I’m 24, so it’s taken up a lot of my early twenties) I’ve made a lot of friends and it’s became my daily routine to get ready, and go to work to be there all day. I usually have to work 10:30-8:30 5 days a week, one weekend off a month, and I have a very mentally strenuous job. My upper management are bullies. I’m tired of the way they treat me, they know I am one of the most hardworking people there and when I leave the place would be flopping. One minute they demean you and discredit you, then the next minute they’re congratulating you. Anything I do above and beyond is now expected out of me instead of appreciated. It’s going to be hard to leave, I act like I don’t care about what people think of me but I’ve really developed a relationship with my co workers I see every day and regular customers who come in. Special treatment and favoritism to certain people. The cliques. The way it’s turning me into such a depressed shell. I’m tired of always feeling like i’m at work. This is not how I want to live my twenties!! So i’m done. I already have a job lined up, I guess I have a trauma bond to that place that it’s going to be different for a while to adjust. I’m choosing me.✌🏻

Rant 😡💢 My job is boring me to death

Work in a boring factory/warehouse doing the same simple thing over and over again. And I've done this for years. A monkey could do my job. I feel like my soul is dead. I only work 4 days a week and people may call it a dream to only work 4 days but am I wrong to be ungrateful and just bored with it? On top of it all it's night shift. So when I get home it's right to sleep and then I'm right back the next day so it feels like boot camp like I'm there 4 days straight with a little sleep break in between and sometimes long hours. Hours indeterminate. I'm done when I get done. I hate that I never know when I get off. I feel like a little monkey slave. I've done this for years and am so burnt out. And I get paid barely anything. Am I wrong to be ungrateful? I know people want 4 days a week jobs badly but I just hate it. I would almost pick a less boring job with set hours 5 days a week just to get out of here. Only thing keeping me here is 4 days a week schedule.

Workplace Politics 💬 Expectations by middle management to lie at work

Have had this happen numerous times at numerous jobs. It drives me up a wall because I hate lying. 'Oh, just fudge the numbers so they look better to upper Management'

'oh, you made a mistake? Don't take ownership, lie and wait for it to reach a point where the mistake can't be traced back to you. If you don't; it could affect your raise'

Etc...

Living with accountability is frowned upon in the work place and I fucking hate it.

The corporate rat race is fucking emotionally draining. I don't want to sacrifice my own personal values just so I don't end up homeless. I fucking want out.

Hours Cut ✂️ Hours cut down to 10!

I took a cellphone sales job. At first I was getting 40 hours a week and the commission was good. Eventually They cut hours to 25 and I could still pay my bills but it was a bit tight. Now we got a new manager and week 1 he cuts my hours down to 10! I legit feel like I'm being forced out! It makes me feel sick to my stomach. Yeah cellular sales isn't glamorous but it was the first job I ever had that I didn't dread going to work every day. I feel like the entire company is after me. And it's a horrible feeling.

Workplace Boundaries 🫸 Does anyone else have really clingy friends at work?

I've been within this company for 4 years and I have made friends but sometimes I think they can be a little too friendly, like we all have to be together all the time.

I said I am going to the chemist at lunch today and 2 of my friends said "wait until we eat we will join you" but I prefer to be alone and come and go on my own terms, we don't have to be together all the time. It just drives me nuts that people are like that and when you are not around for lunch on some random day, they are questioning you as if you don't have the right to just go and do your own thing at lunch, like sometimes it's nice to be alone!

Vent 😭😮‍💨 Quit after one shift, no reply or anything, feel a little guilty.

So I’m 19 and got hired at a movie theatre for a minimum wage floor staff position. To be quite honest, I just realized the job wasn’t a fit for me at all, so the next day I sent a polite email informing them. I sent it yesterday morning and they haven’t replied yet, I’m assuming they saw it and are just annoyed. Do y’all think I’m in the clear? I was scheduled to work tomorrow but it was just gonna be computer training and some Shadowing I believe. I also just received an email letting everyone know that the schedule is released for next week, but i can’t check it because they hadn’t got me into the app with the schedules and stuff yet. I’m a bit worried they didn’t see it somehow even tho I sent an email to the same email I’ve gotten a reply from the managers at before. Thoughts? I also just feel a little guilty overall because they were nice I just knew that it wasn’t the position for me.

Vent 😭😮‍💨 I’m pretty much over it at this point

I’m tired of my construction job, I’m physically worn down, I’m burned out, and I’m tired of my coworkers. I would have left already but my direct boss had to leave temporarily and I am stuck filling in until he can come back, but I never wanted to be in charge. Only reason I agreed was because otherwise they didn’t have someone to fill the role and people would get laid off, but at this point I don’t care if some idiots get fired. I actually get along with my bosses, everyone else is newer (1-3 years) and just thinking about how much I want to leave makes me care less about a coworkers drama, even if it’s work related

Workplace Abuse 🫂 Luxury hotel discriminating against vendors

I work as a bellman at a remote luxury ski resort, but I'm not directly employed by the hotel - I'm a contracted worker through a vendor company.

The hotel has always had this system: - Direct hotel employees get free lunch - Everyone (employees and all vendors) could use the break room freely to eat their own food - If anyone wanted the hotel-prepared food, you could buy individual meal tickets for $5 each

But now they've changed the rules in a discriminatory way: - Direct employees: Still get free access to everything - Housekeeping vendors: Still get free access to the break room - My vendor company ONLY: Must buy a FULL MONTH of meal tickets upfront (one for each workday) just to ACCESS the break room at all

Even though I always bring my own lunch, I'm now forced to eat in work areas where people are working like the bell closet

This is especially frustrating since we're at a remote resort with no other dining options nearby. Why is my specific vendor company being singled out when we all do essential work for the same resort?

Real World Events 🌎 Adobe is done with DEI goals that it never did in the first place.

So, Adobe - you know, the people who make PDF tools and Photoshop - has announced it's not doing anymore DEI hiring stuff.

Here's the kicker: According to their HR head, they never actually hired to those goals in the first place.

If you would like to protest Adobe, most modern browsers have built in PDF viewers, and modern word processors can often edit PDFs.

If you use Photoshop, please consider using GIMP (https://www.gimp.org) instead of Photoshop. The UI isn't as advanced, but it does offer competitive features, and won't contribute to a company that stopped DEI after never trying in the first place.

Rant 😡💢 Eight hours every other week.

I just got home from my "job interview". What a waste of time that was. They need someone to answer the phone from 4-8 pm every other weekend. That's not even a job offer. It's a joke.

Round Interviews Nonsense | Last-Minute Rejection 🤬🤬🤬 Nortek Data Center Cooling – A Hiring Nightmare

I know this subreddit will LOVE this story.

An internal recruiter from Nortek Data Center Cooling reached out to me about an open position. I went through four initial interviews, and it became clear that each person I spoke with had a different understanding of the role. Despite this, every conversation went well—I had the experience, skills, and confidence that I was the right fit.

At my fifth interview with HR, they mentioned one other finalist but reassured me I’d hear back soon. The next day, they offered me the job. I was thrilled.

Then, things got weird.

A mentor advised me to negotiate for a sign-on bonus, so I asked. They brushed it off, saying they’d “check with the team.” Then, instead of responding, they suddenly added a sixth interview—despite already giving me an offer letter. They told me, “The offer still stands, but hold off on signing until you speak with one more person.”

Huge red flag.

They scheduled this last-minute interview a week out—on a Friday at 4 PM. At this point, I suspected they were walking back their offer, but I tried to stay optimistic.

When the interview came, I was blindsided. Instead of a casual meet-and-greet, it was an interrogation by the President of Nortek Data Center Cooling, who clearly hadn’t been briefed and didn’t seem to like me from the start. I left the call with a bad feeling.

The following Monday, I followed up. I got excuses—travel, personal matters, “we need more time.” By Wednesday, HR finally called. Instead of being direct, they rambled, trying to let me down gently.

I cut to the chase: “Are you rescinding the offer?” More babbling. “Yes or no?” Still avoiding it. “Don’t waste my time. Are you rescinding the offer?”

Finally: “Yes. Our team got ahead of themselves in their excitement.”

I simply said, “Have a nice day,” and hung up.

Looking back, I dodged a bullet. If I had put in notice at my current (good, caring, flexible) employer, I would have been screwed.

Lesson Learned:

Companies like this will string you along, change the rules, and pull offers at the last second. Always trust your gut. Always protect yourself. If they treat you this poorly before you even start, imagine how they’ll treat you once you’re in.

Be careful. Ask the right questions. Know who you’re dealing with.

TL;DR:

Went through five interviews with Nortek Data Center Cooling, got an offer and offer letter, then asked for a sign-on bonus. Instead of responding, they added a last-minute sixth interview with the company President, who clearly wasn’t on board.

After delays and excuses, they rescinded the offer, claiming they had “jumped the gun.”

Lesson: If a company plays games before you even start, run. Always trust your gut and protect yourself.

Toxic Workplace ☢️ Toxic jobs I've had.

I had my share of negative job experiences that I would love to share with the Internet. Note that I'm not from the US & experiences may differ.

  1. Customer Service Agent Worked in a call center, training is crash course with insufficient content covered. Was in the midst of a system integration, roughly 20 % of customers is on the new system but we were taught the old system. Required to run 4 different shifts(4 weekdays + 1 weekend) & is given limited authority to system(requires manager approval for some). Didn't get along too well with the manager as she wasn't very understanding, wanted immediate results plus constantly pushing kpi. Decent salary at the time, messed up sleep schedule & toxic environment with mostly unfriendly colleagues/teammates...quit before contract ends to retain my sanity.

  2. IT Technician Went for interview & was given the green light the next day, but later waited 3+ months due to " headcount " & other issues... arranged a 2nd interview later with another manager & HR which asked several complex questions even though I thought was only for formality ...was thinking the company would be a mess given the hiring process...sure it is, minimal training was given due to my colleague being pregnant & was crossing the custom to work here everyday... Also, some of the tasks I was given is foreign to my team...I need to ask people from other teams for answers but they aren't very friendly...huge complain culture there about trivial things such as " self proclaimed rude behaviour etc". I was left to figure out most things by myself but was faulted due to not following SOP regardless of results... manager is also new ...not helping. On the bright side, money was above average but I have to quit given the circumstances.

  3. Programmer/IT A temp position where I would learn from tutorials & implement at the same time for internal clients. Below average pay with no benefits & was asked to take on multiple tasks that is irrelevant & not listed in the job scope(doing other's job). Required to learn many programming languages, coordinate, research, watch cctv footages, data entry, physical work & fix a printer! Manager has a high qualification but is clearly out of touch with numerous things & think that his situation applies to all...was told to arrange a meeting with the client when I was only 1 week there to discuss the project...told him that I only have 1 week of tutorials experience & isn't familiar with the " jargons" yet...which subsequently forces him to join the meeting...turns out, he met with the client previously but the miscommunication is so bad, the client gave the outdated & incomplete documents...he didn't admitted his mistakes & shove it to the client & ended with " customer is always right! ". Surprisingly, I completed the contract regardless...environment with tons of elites & different " gangs".

  4. Software Tester At a bank, very friendly colleagues with decent compensation plus hybrid work mode. E learning is mandatory but was limited time to which leads to using own time to complete. Training is almost immediate & told to fulfill an " impossible quota " per day...tons of overtime with longest shift being 17 hours during " go live " period. Job has really repetitive nature regardless of pay, had to let this one go.

I am grateful to employers that gave me the opportunity to work but the above mentioned work environment just could cut it. I am sure there are ethical companies out there but I've yet to encounter them. Share your thoughts.

Choosing Beggars 🙏 Boss offers me a new office, tells me not to move on company time.

1.4k Upvotes

I'm serious. He comes to my cubicle (which doesn't have the cubicle walls btw) and says, "I'm not in the office so much anymore so you're going to take mine. Congrats on the upgrade. Don't move your computer in there until after work hours. I'm not paying you to haul stuff around."

I nodded and said, "Sure, no problem."

Waited until about 3pm (work ends at 4 here), and moved all the company equipment I use to the new office.

Seriously? I didn't think there was an employer in the world who could think to themselves, "Moving company equipment to a new location on orders of the boss is DEFINITELY something people do on their own time."

Like no dude. I'm moving your stuff, you're paying me to do it.

Don't get me wrong. Having an office to work in is vastly superior to a "cubicle" (in the loosest sense of the term) and I'm grateful for the upgrade, but the logic of making me move on my own time doesn't make a lick of sense.

Are there any employers in here who can clarify this? Would you make your employees do work stuff outside of work?

Underpaid💸 I saw what everyone makes

Hello everyone,

I was unfortunate enough to be tagged in an email with an encrypted file. What I thought was related to me was actually the pay for everyone in the entire company. 401k deductions, health coverage, the works.

Can I get in trouble for looking at this file? Is the person who tagged me in the email going to get fired?
