Army calls fake news on Troop drawdown
Saw that the original article was trending yesterday and wanted to see everyone’s thoughts now that the official US Army page had posted this.

This is a safe place to ask any question related to joining the Army. It is focused on joining, Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT), and follow on schools, such as Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP), and any other Additional Skill Identifiers (ASI).
We ask that you do some research on your own, as joining the Army is a big commitment and shouldn't be taken lightly. Resources such as GoArmy.com, the Army Reenlistment site, Bootcamp4Me, Google and the Reddit search function are at your disposal. There's also the /r/army wiki. It has a lot of the frequent topics, and it's expanding all the time.
/r/militaryfaq is open to broad joining questions or answers from different branches. Make sure you check out the /Army Duty Station Thread Series, and our ongoing MOS Megathread Series. You are also welcome to ask question in the /army discord.
If you want to Google in /r/army for previous threads on your topic, use this format: 68P AIT site:reddit.com/r/army
I promise you that it works really well.
This is also where questions about reclassing and other MOS questions go -- the questions that are asked repeatedly which do not need another thread. Don't spam or post garbage in here: that's an order. Top-level comments and top-level replies are reserved for serious comments only.
Finally: If you're not 100% sure of what you're talking about, leave it for someone else who is.

So as we all know, there’s an obesity epidemic. Yes, the weight trends of soldiers follows the weight trends of the general population. I understand all this. But after being on a joint base for the last 3 months around Marines, Coasties, Airmen, and Sailors the Army undoubtedly looks the shittiest in our uniforms. Almost every overweight soldier that I see (most are even IET… how?) are in army uniforms. Why is this? Is it the new PT test? Is it the standards becoming more lax?
I’ve been in for 7 years and yeah, fuck the APFT- but there is no denying our formations looked miles better when it was implemented. It’s actually quite embarrassing, I have heard other branches comment on this as well so it’s not just my own bias being in the branch.. and while I’m aware I sound hateful it’s a real question. Even by civilian standards these people look heavy, much less military.
Edit: Okay guys I get it, I’m fatphobic and a piece of shit. You keep telling yourself how “BMI doesn’t matter just look at Dwayne The Rock Johnson!” Thinking it applies to you while you’re gassed from a 20 minute 2 mile and run in the C group, I’ll keep it to myself next time. I also hear you all saying the Navy is worse, maybe I don’t notice this because I avoid eye contact with the Navy since I can’t swim and it’s a major insecurity of mine.
I’ll take a triple whopper with cheese add bacon and a large fry, since the army put a BK on post and forced me to order this specific meal.
How long til the Army follows suit?

I don’t have many off days from work so we’ll be out running errands. Is that weird to bring them with me? Or should I just get dropped off? She’s curious about the details of everything too, as expected. Any opinions on this?

I want to message some friends and an acquaintance on Armed Forces Day. I've heard many strong opinions about people receiving thank you for your service comments. I don"t want it to feel like I'm copying and pasting a meaningless message. I'd love to hear opinions on this!

One that recently popped into my head today was circa 2009, staring at a rather attractive deployment 10 in Iraq at sundown. Forgot I had on my clear Eyepro, was definitely staring for a solid 6 mins and everyone including the individual being stared at knew.

What is it like for single soldiers stationed in Poland, specifically regarding barracks, locals, and off post policies, as I’m considering reenlisting and potentially being assigned there, Germany, or Korea for a third time?

From what i could find it seems recently they've maybe removed sec+ requirement for ait and a lot of inscom work is going away and its more forscom ( so maybe less computer/software work and more hardware work? ) anyone know if this stuff is accurate? Would like to hear more about recent experiences.

So I'm in suddc. lab results came back with a positive on a trace amount of alcohol. I know i fucked around and I'm about to find out. However, I was in suddc for a BH issue. I was medically referred not command referred if that makes a difference. So I never had like an incident or was arrested or anything. The doctor suggested it because drinking can aggrevate my conditions. I'm supposed to start the meb process here soon but would a ch. 9 take precendce if they haven't sent the referral to IDES? Or is it possible they wouldn't recommend ch 9 at all? because it was a small amount of alcohol, like so little a bottle of kombucha could've been the culprit. Long story short am I cooked?

What are some good, affordable authorized combat gloves that y’all recommend/personal favorites/ using right now? I heard the Mechanix wear are good but they look kinda clucky. I’m looking at the M-pact line but I want some opinions. I lost the issued one (the green one).
Is it easy to play around with those like closing pouches, take mags out, good on the trigger and stuff?

I thought it might be fun to hear what podcasts you all listen to. Besides fun it might open up a few new pods for others to enjoy.
A few of my favorites, not in any particular order, include the following.
Hardcore history
Hardcore history addendum
Common sense
The rest is history
The history of Rome (no longer active but a great and early podcast)
We have ways of making you talk
— ok enough history pods
On the media
Real time with Bill Maher
Wait, wait don’t tell me
This American life
And (now defunct) death in ice valley

Just like in the title says. Given the choice between the two, which assignment would you pick if you had to pick one?
I ask this because I’m stuck between the two. I know I want to do one of the two, I’m certain on it. But I wanna know what you guys would do if you had to.
I’ll take 5 large fries and a chocolate milkshake.

Anyone using something that integrates nicely with your CVC? Been using the issued ESS and they leave something to be desired.

I’m a 1LT(p) in a chemical BN that keeps fucking me out of $1000/mo of IDT. Looking for something closer to home near Northern NM. Already completed CO CMD so preferably looking for a BN Chem-O slot. All I can seem to find are QM and Transpo in the area. What are QM and Transpo like and does anyone have any leads?

Greetings fellow soldiers,
I’m in the Nurse Corps going to the ICU course January 2026. Fort Sam is my #1 - looking for advice for what to put down as #2: JBLM or Fort Bliss (WBAMC)
Looking for your input on:
Things you wish you knew before moving to these areas and what you’d do differently.
Culture of the hospitals/bases.
Quality of Life in the surrounding area (I.e., what kind of extra curricular activities are popular in their respective cities).
Traveling opportunities in the general region
I’ll have a biggie bag with a double stack, spicy nugs, and a Diet Coke. Thanks.
Hey ya'll. I usually just browse this subreddit and never post anything, however I am finally beyond done with everything and just want to rant.
Why is it that I am forced to have money taken away from me for facilities that are never open on the weekends? I dont want to reveal myself to badly, but both DFACs that are within reasonable distance of my barracks are closed. One is closed for a rotation and wont be open for a while, and the other has a habbit of just randomly being closed certain days with no notice. Our barracks dont have any sort of stove, practically no counter space, and only a microwave and a fridge, so buying my own food is basically out of the question. This leaves my only options down to going off post/shoppette, or to drive across post and pray that another DFAC is open (which screws people that arent fortunate to have cars).
With all the news going around of the army taking significantly more money from soldiers for food than they actually spend, it really pisses me off that this stuff is STILL happening. I know this isnt exactly a new topic but I'm just so tired of all the bullshit ontop of this happening.
I'll have the white rice with orange chicken. Just a cup for water, I'm trying to save money.

Does anyone have any experience with the Married Army Couples Program? How has your experience been with it?
Is anyone here AGR married to an AD Soldier? How has MACP worked for you guys? I see that it says it doesn’t guarantee assignments together which is fine but to be stationed AT LEAST within 100mi from each other.

I have multiple felonies no convictions due to conditional discharge. All non violent. Committed them when I was 19 I’m 24 now. I have a great recruiter who’s been helping me for the past 2-3 months now. I have solid character statements and a solid applicant statement. I’m a different person now despite how some may feel about me but I’m wondering if anyone has recent experience with this. Please feel free to comment or PM me. Also this is for the Army.

I start my reclass tomorrow to 14G and I’ve been dead set on getting orders to Korea. It’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, but I realized I never actually asked what life is like as a 14G over there. Does it depend on the base, or is it generally a good (or rough) experience across the board?
Trying to make the most out of my first few years on Active Duty, so any insight is appreciated. I understand as a Reservist switching to AD i don’t have a choice, but i’m optimistic that i’ll go where i want (i call it optimism but it’s really delusion).
Also if you have location suggestions i’ll love to hear them.

Got my first fuel bath yesterday! Please, any tips for getting the smell out of my uniform? Regular detergent isn't cutting it. I have tried baking soda but that did nothing. TIA
