Question/Help Wanted Smoking in the car with kids

I saw a man and a woman sitting in their car one smoking a cigarette and the other vaping while a younger person was outside filling up the tank. They had a young child and what looked like a newborn in the back seat.

I was about to say something out of concern for the kids, but before I could even open my mouth, I was met with “WHAT THE F** ARE YOU LOOKING AT, C***?”*

So I just kept walking.

Honestly, I felt so bad for those kids.

What should I have done?

Discussion a good news story about our healthcare system

I know public healthcare is really under the pump at the moment. I've had a sore lower throat that's woken me up in agony at 3am 3 nights in a row now, and this morning i was struggling to breathe and couldnt swallow water. at 4am this morning I googled my symptoms and it told me to go to A&E stat.

off i went to waitākere emergency dept. there was a 6 hour wait on the board but the triage nurse saw me within 20 mins, then given the wait time and severity of my symptoms (likely just a viral thing) gave me a free voucher to be seen at the white Cross down the road.

I wasn't even there 5 mins before being assessed and saw a doctor within 15 mins. I was given pain relief, anti inflams and steroids which all began working within the hour. I have now done 12K steps today I'm feeling so good lol. that high dose prednisone gets my electoral vote.

anyway thank you multiple nurses and Dr rashad for the fast compassionate help. I am so, so glad I live in aotearoa new zealand. it was all free. I didn't even pay for parking.

Discussion Why are some people so so ready to fight a stranger?

Yesterday morning, hubby and I finished grocery and we were waiting to leave the capark. I was driving, window down a little I said to hubby "it would be great to get home today".

A much larger lady with a vehicle of people was reversing into a space, 2 spaces away. She heard me. As I back out, she harshly called out "you talking to me". Hubby called out "No".

Note, I am not small myself.

She seemed so ready to fight me or ram my car. Just why?!

I get that everyone has something going on but really....

I didn't look at her, I didn't talk to her. Why can't people mind their business and chill out.

The sign in front blocks the full sign that reads "POOL SHOP" when stopped at a certain part of the road and it tickles me every time.

Question/Help Wanted Woods in Auckland I can scream in?

Hello,

I need recommendations for wooded, secluded-type areas I can scream in, without being disturbed or disturbing others, in the Auckland area. Preferably easy to get to from a train station/platform.

Nothing weird. It's just a good outlet. Without venting like this now and then, my wellbeing decays.

My current screaming woods have had a homeless encampment spring up nearby, and the neighbouring teenagers have started seshing there as of last year. I really don't want to disturb any of them, but I still want to scream until my organs explode.

Screaming in the woods has done more good for me than our public mental healthcare system ever has. I appreciate any leads to a new haunt.

Cheers

ETA: Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to check out a couple but a good point was raised that Auckland is too densely populated for true isolation. I had a good thing going but this might spell the end of it, such is life.

I didn't expect this post to get so much attention but in hindsight, yeah, it's silly. I'm loving the bants but unrequited comments and unfounded assumptions about my mental health and drug use are just plain rude. Find your grace and try to remember we're all just randoms online.

Have a great day 💕

Rant This shits me to tears

So there was a half marathon on Tāmaki Drive today. Awesome! I wasn’t taking part, but it’s such a beautiful stretch of road when there are no cars on it.

But as things were wrapping up, this really bummed me out. The water cups handed out to runners were brown paper with a big green recycling logo on them.

So what happened to those cups? They got put in big plastic bags. Will anyone be paid to empty the bags or sort the cups from gel packs and other non-recyclables? Nope, these bags will go straight into the ground.

It’s all well and fine having paper cups and paper straws and all this other recyclable, compostable packaging, but what’s the point if we can’t or won’t sort it so that it actually can be recycled or composted?

End rant.

Visiting Auckland Hunting for a building in Auckland using my friend's cryptic clues...

Might be a weird one but basically I'm in auckland alone for a few days, and a friend is sending me cryptic clues every day to lead me to a building their dad used to work at in auckland.

They're US American and as far as I know their dad is American too.

There are two clues so far:

'Your first clue includes red, white and blue' this one came with a picture I'll attach to the thread. I'm not sure how the picture is related, if at all...but obviously the red white and blue immediately made me think of the US...so I tried taking a picture of what I thought as the former US consulate from doing some basic research (now it's citi bank), and I've also attached this picture, though it was wrong.

Yhe second clue I've received today is

'There used to be taps, where beer flowed like honey. Now its a different kind if place to spend money'

So obviously it used to be a brewery or a pub or maybe both....but I'm at a bit of a roadblock with knowing where to go.

If anyone could help me out it'd be much appreciated!

As I get older I find local spots better to eat at. Both with their service, authentic tastes and quality produce. What is your favorite local spot to eat at?

Question/Help Wanted Are there league/union leagues that play on any day other than Saturday?

I live out east and played rugby growing up, mid 20s now and would like to get back into it but play football on Saturdays.

In general are there any lower level league/union leagues for someone like me who hasn’t played in a while or is everything relatively high level?

Thanks

Question/Help Wanted Jeep service in Auckland

Where does everyone get their Jeeps serviced in Auckland? I’m looking for affordable places. My current place (where I’ve been going to for the past 3 years and where I bought my car from second hand) has changed ownership and service quality has plummeted. Does AA service Jeeps?

News ATTN Plane Spotters: there is an AN-124 landing at AKL in about 90 min

Post image

With the destruction of the AN-225 in 2022, this model became the world's largest cargo plane. There are only about twelve of them still operating and it is well worth making a trip to see - even if you are not a "plane person." It is an amazing piece of machinery.

This particular airline has a fleet of five 124s and hauls large/heavy cargo all over the world. This flight originated in Texas on April 2. So loooong journey to arrive today.
