Thank you for saving this sweet little fluff! What do you plan to name it?

u/d1gger_ 1d ago
For now, “his” name is Albus :). We have a vet appointment in a few days, so I’m not sure what I will call Albus if “he” is actually a “she”… but for now, he is Albus haha.

You can still keep the name.. my friends have a bunny named Lola and one day they noticed she was licking a weird bump between her back legs.. took her to the vet and it turned out to be her testicles 😮 but she’s still Lola and they still refer to her as a her 😆🤷♀️

If you want to determine the sex yourself, boys have two "tubes" on their skin that run diagonally away from the anal area. Ladies just have two holes.

When my best friend learned (after a year) that her bunny, Cinnamon, was in fact, not a "she" but a "he", they just started calling him CinnaMAN.

He has quickly become my bestie! He even gives kisses! Can’t believe someone dumped this little one… I feel like I found gold outside!!

u/Kibichibi 1d ago
I wonder if he's still pretty young, then! Buns are more affectionate when they're younger. Keep us posted on the vet appointment btw!

u/d1gger_ 1d ago
I am wondering the same thing! He is VERY affectionate— he just finished licking my girlfriend’s face for 2 minutes straight as a “thank you” for head scratches. He seems to be very committed to reciprocal grooming… whenever we pet him, he “returns the favor” by giving us kisses. It’s so freaking sweet.

Bunnies are VERY social. If you keep him, they are their happiest selves in bonded pairs. A spayed female from a local rescue would be just the ticket :)
43
u/Jopkins 1d ago
Welllllll maybe. They generally are happiest in bonded pairs, but you can't just buy another rabbit and stick them together if they're not from the same litter. You have to introduce them slowly, keeping them in separate cages, letting them meet through the bars first, then supervising them together in case they fight, letting them spend a bit more time together more and more, until you're sure they get on. And if they don't, there isn't really anything you can do about it - you'd have to keep two separate rabbits apart from one another for their whole lives.

Bunnies are generally as affectionate as you are with them. If you ignore them then yes they start to ignore and not be interested in you. If you’re affectionate with them their whole lives they will almost always take a huge interest in you as well and be affectionate.
27
u/Tacitus111 1d ago
Yup. And then they tend to get more affectionate again after they’re neutered/spayed.

Rufus she was so cool. But an escape artist. Too smart for her own good I’m afraid. Glad that little guy was rescued.

Cute bunny but I’m more interested in how gorgeous that rug looks with the sideboard😍 Did you paint it yourself?

I actually got it from Wayfair for like $300! It’s the “Amarapal” tv stand by Lark Manor :).

Actually found it at Lowe’s for like $200 (and it’s big— 8x10, the other sizes are cheaper). Look up “Jezebel Allen + Roth Rug” and it will pop up :).

If you can, find an exotic vet. They provided much better care for our rabbits than the cat/dog vets that said they also did rabbits. Our rabbits lived 10 years and i’m sure the exotic vets are what helped us extend their lives that long between the teeth grinding and all the other care they needed over the years. Also, consider pet insurance.

u/d1gger_ 1d ago
That’s exactly where we are going on Wednesday! I had no idea that rabbits didn’t go to standard vets… I was very surprised that they are considered “exotic”. I’m excited to learn how old he/she is… and if they are a he or a she lol.

u/nemaihne 1d ago
If you think that's ironic, rats are also considered 'exotic' pets. They're the second most populous mammal on the planet. (We take the number one spot.)

u/flyingmonkey1257 15h ago
That's great! Yeah, it surprised me too. We actually took our buns to a normal vet until the emergency vet informed us that our bun wasnt eating because her teeth were overgrown and uncomfortable. We had been at the normal vet less than 2 weeks earlier and they didnt notice. They were really struggling to look in her mouth so I think they just gave up and told us she was fine. Both exotic vets we went to after that were great.
The reason I say consider pet insurance is because both of our rabbits required teeth grinding. Our girl needed it every 6 weeks and our boy needed it every 12 weeks. If we had gotten pet insurance before these issues were identified it would have been quite a bit cheaper. That said, pet insurance has changed alot since we got our first bun back in 2014. I'm not sure if teeth grinding is still something they cover. Definitely something to look into though.

Awwwww is he a Netherland Dwarf? He looks just like my bunny who ignored average rabbit lifespans and lived to be a teenager.

u/d1gger_ 1d ago
That is my guess on breed!!! I hope he follows suit and also lives long enough to go to college :).

My bun was found in a park. They got rid of him because he wasn't fixed and pissed all over the place.
Got him fixed, pissing went away...I've had him for 10 1/2 years and he's still a little shit. Love him to pieces.

u/canis_felis 1d ago
Bunnies naturally like to have a place to toilet so go right ahead and set up a potty with wood chippings.
You have a netherland dwarf on your hands. Super smoochy and cute. Make sure he/she has lots of hay and good luck with your long friendship xo bunnies are the best

I rescued a bunny years ago and had never had one. I knew absolutely nothing about them. My young cats loved him, and he loved them. I didn't know they would play with people. Until after about 2 weeks of having him, I was sitting on the floor talking on the phone. He would run up to me and nibble my my muffin top. ( my little fat roll over the top of my jeans ) lol! Then he'd run away. Do it again, run away. I put a really small, whole apple down for him, and he figured out how to get a bite out of it by rolling it over to the wall and holding it steady while he took a few bites to get him started. Then he carried over to the couch and ate it. It was kind of amazing to me. Smart and a sense of humor! We bought electrical tape and that tubing to prevent him from chewing wires. It wasn't too much of a problem. I think the cats actually kept him out of danger by adopting him. This post made me miss him!! 😢

u/angwilwileth 1d ago
Cats and rabbits actually get along really well. In cat language the one doing the grooming is the boss while in bunny language the one receiving grooming is the boss so both think they're winning when the cat grooms the rabbit.

u/Predawnisland 1d ago
They're adorable! This baby is a Netherland Dwarf, and if your interested in what that color pattern is called, it would be a Siamese Sable Point.

u/analogpursuits 1d ago
If you stare at his face, your periphery will see the round spot in the pattern on the carpet to the right. It seemingly appears that he is carrying a small hors d'oeuvres tray.

Do try and find out if it escaped (versus being dumped). Besides local social media, check with a local rabbit rescue group (https://rabbit.org/rescue/rabbit-rescue-groups/). If it was dumped, then shame on the previous owner. But if it escaped, then the bunny should be returned to its owner.
EDIT: I'm now reading your history of discovering and finally capturing this bun. It being out in the wild for months? I'm very impressed with its survival skills!

Any bags on the floor will be chewed! Left food or snacks in a bag? They will get chewed through. It’s the ‘up-life’ for now.

I had a bunny one time that was a dog in a bunny body. He would come when you called him (lived free in the yard from time to time) and just loved being held and touched. Sweetest little thing!

You’ll need a big bunny cage if you’re going to keep it, along with all the cage accessories/accouterments, food, chew toys and LOTS of covering of cords/cables…oh, and a really good brush for grooming! They shed a lot of fur… 🐰🐇 ❤️👍

One of my rabbits I captured like this. Escaped from a family garden, and then set up a network of runs through like five other gardens and took over most of a street. Spent the better part of the week at dawn and dusk trying to get into neighbours gardens to flush them out.
Utter sweetie though now, after days of avoiding us. Jumps on me and licks me
