Remove the hitch for everyone’s safety.

Then put it the bed so when he hits that first hard turn it goes flying around in the back I’m sure making the best noises lol

Tap it on a couple taillights first.

Came to say . For added safety drop it a block or two down the street.

But they only care about their safety. It’s why pickup truck drivers never take off hitches, their thought process is “I want to do the most amount of damage in case a car rear ends me”

It literally protects your bumper from taking the force in the event of a rear end collision. I would much rather the hitch take it than have to deal with your shitty insurance company.

Has saved me on several occasions.

Try not to rear end people I guess.

The hitch can cause a lot of damage even when it’s not the other party’s fault.

For example, pick up trucks back up and hit parked cars. Now because of that hitch, a radiator and several engine parts might need replacing… when the truck’s bumper might have just caused a dent.

In standstill traffic, the car behind a pickup truck could be hit be a third vehicle and launched into the back of that hitch.

I understand why hitches are placed in the back when not towing (some states consider that illegal), but we live in a society where normal behavior is not to want to cause unnecessary harm to one another. Engineers have designed vehicles to minimize harm to everyone, thought went into the design after research and testing. If it had been determined that it was safer for everyone to drive with a hitch, it would be factory install.

I also, understand the mentality of most pickup truck drivers, it’s “fuck you, I only care about myself” lol

Tell me you don't know what you're talking about without telling me.

Replacing your radiator is an infinitely better scenario than having your subframe pushed in. Even at low speed, a great way to cause a total loss would be to tweak the cradle.

Hell, having to replace a radiator is infinitely better than having to replace the radiator support, which would be a strip down, cut and weld, hours on the straightener, and then reassembly with any new body panels that need it + paint AND it'll never match again.

Besides, a truck backing out of a spot is going to catch the corners of the bumper before the hitch. The likelihood of a straight-on reversing accident from a truck is infinitely less likely than being rear-ended (I'm at 3 and 0 on that while sitting at stop lights) and STILL a better scenario with the tow ball in.

To those who rear-ended me: you're welcome for merely puncturing the radiator and not totaling your car out and jacking up your insurance rates when you rear-end me.

The rest of the time, I'm driving my small daily driver wishing I had some sort of protection from the dipshits in Teslas, soccer mom SUVs, and people who somehow managed to get a license but shouldn't.

True, my friend rear ended one in a mustang and they were both high enough that he went under the bumper and you could see the perfect imprint of the hitch receiver in the middle of his hood. Truck was fine

mine is frozen to the receiver

He's asking for someone to dent a fender or break a window with it parking like that...

Or maybe they could pull into the space thus not having all the rear end hanging over the sidewalk!

They didn’t.

I know and how often do we see those hitches all rusty because they have it but have never used it once! Pavement princess!

I would turn it upside down so they can be confused about that later when they try to hook up a trailer.

Where’s my wrench set? I would remove that hitch pronto. AH.
