Useful Information Bedbug ID and common misidentifications
Bed bug identification resources:
- All bed bug life stages
- Life cycle with images
- Gif of a bed bug
- Illustrated guide to identifying bed bugs
- Identification of bed bugs close relatives
Note: flattened body, rusty brown coloured (less so in younger nymphs, which are more translucent). Thin 4 segmented antennae. 11 segmented abdomen. Short legs (6 of them) and reduced wings incapable of flight.
These are insects or other invertebrates commonly misidentified as bedbugs!
Not bed bugs.
Note: If it has wings or more than 6 legs, it is not a bed bug. Do not mistake antennae for legs, look at the illustrated guide to avoid confusion.
Please comment with any other common mis-IDs and I will add them!

Help! Bug identification. Is this a bed bug?!
My son had a few bites after being at the park/playground which I didn’t think much of. The next morning he woke up with more & I found this on his rug when I stripped all of the linens in his room. Is this a bed bug?? Or something else?

Requesting community support Need advice on how to kill bedbugs
I need some, maybe more creative methods to kill bed bugs. I keep getting bitten up, despite having a mosquito net, and saw some bugs that I originally labelled as baby roaches but am now thinking were bed bugs.
I just moved to this place 2 weeks ago, and I am required to stay here until July. I do not have access to a dryer or hot water to wash items. Everything is cold wash and air dry. I have ordered some diatomaceous earth that I will be applying, but would like to attempt some other lines of attack as well.
Other things I do not have access to: -vaccuum -steamer -silica gel -professionals
I do have boric acid (to kill the aforementioned roach problem) but I read that it only works if they eat it. I will happily donate my own blood if anyone has ideas on how to deliver it to the bugs lol
I am also down to buy some heavier duty chemicals and apply them, but I read not all of them work, and I currently live in a country where my language skills are not the best yet. So figuring out chemicals is a little difficult. Also most people here do not care much about lice/bedbugs/etc. So it's hard to find any specifically labelled products as most people just live with it.
Please provide any methods you think I could try considering my limited resources. Thank you.

Bed Bug Excrement Stain? I am super paranoid please help.
I found this on my pillowcase last night and I swear it wasn’t there before. It seems to have the hallmark cross formation of bed bug stains. I stayed in a hotel late Feb/early March that has had bed bugs in the past and has recent reviews mentioning bed bugs (I was on a school trip and had no choice) so I’ve been paranoid I picked them up ever since. I don’t see any signs in the usual places (mattress seams, sheets, around the bed frame) but I’m just so scared I have them somehow. Is there anything else this stain could be? Should I look harder for them? I’m sure constantly looking through this sub isn’t helping my mental health but I’m just so worried I have them.

Please god tell me it isn’t so…found on bathroom counter.
I literally just moved into this apartment yesterday. I stayed up super late unpacking and organizing and passed out, woke up and this little guy was walking around on my bathroom counter.
I immediately started looking everywhere in my apartment, under the mattress, corners of walls, by the carpet. And I can’t seem to find any more. I’m also praying maybe this is something different.
I just got out of a real bad relationship and spent every dollar I had to my name buying this crappy little studio apartment, so this absolutely cannot happen right now. I’ve never seen a bedbug in real life before so someone please tell me this isn’t a bedbug.

Found on my computer monitor. Not quite like the other positive IDs; seeking assistance.
I had to deal with BBs over a decade ago. Trying not to freak out over this strange wee bug. Please give me good news...
I'm in NZ, if that helps.

Tiny and out of the blue. What are these?
Last night I walked in the kitchen (central Kentucky ) and there was hundreds of these running madly on the counter. I had just been in there a couple of hours before and there was none. At first I thought they were ants even though I haven’t seen an ant in my house for years. But the more I thought about it I’ve never seen ants so small and appear so suddenly. There wasn’t so much as a crumb on the counter. Then it came to me the only babies I’ve ever seen act like that and it such a large number was from a spider. I stripped everything off the counter and couldn’t find a momma spider. Any ideas?

Identification Are these bedbug stains?
Hello everyone I found these dark dots in the corner of a few shelves in my bedroom. They seem to smear if rubbed with a wet finger, leaving a light brown color. The strange thing is that I am not getting bites, no stains on bedding/bed frame, the mattress looks clean: also no exuviae here. The fact is that I can't explain what else it could be, maybe some kind of mold?
Thank you in advance

now I’m curious, always thought these were bb. What do you think?
This was in a hotel in Galway, and for Halloween o couldn’t find alternative stay. Threw everything in the drier on hot, wash on hot, back in drier, and never brought anything home. Now that I am in this subreddit I am curious if it was all for nothing? Sorry some are blurry!!

Is this a bed bug?
Hello. It's been 8 weeks since my last post. Before coming home I did the every advice (washed my things including backpack and coat in high tempature, had a shower before going home and had new clean clothes etc.) Also I've been checking my house constantly and had zero signs of bedbugs since last 8 weeks.
I was not in my dorm room (I was staying at my house.) since 3 weeks and when I came back I found this on my bed. It was around 11 pm. Is this related to a bed bug or it is just a spider. I'm not sure. Thank you.

Found on pillow unsure if bedbugs
Are these bed bugs? So far we’ve only seen them on my MIL’s pillow and small. Which makes me think they could be lice if coming from her here? But also look like bed bugs.

Is this a bed bug?
Hung my coat on a hanger in a closet in a hotel. Thought since it was hanging up I’d be safe.
Bedbug? Scroll for my finger to be included for scale.

Recently moved with family and they are INFESTED
So me and my family had to move rather urgently and moved in with family and we have no where to go. I can’t afford an exterminator and family member seems content with the infestation. I cannot afford an exterminator right now. I tried DE but it seemed to make it worse along with bug MD I used at the same time. Please help and advice any is appreciated!!! The exterminators will charge by room and on severity and they won’t help and I can’t afford this on my own. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
