  • Eyes prominent, though not especially large, and set wide apart on the sides of the head; short antennae protruding between or in front of the eyes; wings well-developed, with conspicuous veins.
  • Cicadas live underground as nymphs for most of their lives, feeding on plant sap. They dig to the surface before their final molt, then emerging as adults. Dobsonfly

Male Corydalus cornutus by Nils Tack.9

Female Corydalus sp. by Matthew.4

  • Size: up to 12cm (5in).
  • Large insect with a soft body and delicate, densely veined wings. Females have strong, short mandibles that can inflict a painful bite; Males have long jaws that are used during mating and are not capable of harm. Both sexes possess an irritating, foul-smelling anal spray used as defense. Female dobsonflies appear similar to fishflies (subfamily Chauliodinae), but the latter have much smaller mandibles and males often have feathery antennae.
  • Spends most of its life in the larval stage, called hellgrammite, 'go-devil' or 'crawlerbottom', living under rocks at the bottoms of lakes, streams and rivers, and preying on other insect larvae with the short sharp pincers on their heads. The larva then crawl out onto land and pupate, staying under large rocks for 3 weeks before molting and emerging to mate. Adults only live about a week, preferring to remain near bodies of water.

What's this bug i found in my wife's pajamas? She put them on then realised they were filled with all these bugs. I squished some and their blood was green. We live in southeast Asia. What's weird is that these underwear had been in a draw for a few days, and they were dried indoors. So I have no idea how they got there.

Where: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Size: 4 to 6in.
I was surprised to find this large disgusting thing: It was, I would estimate to be about 4 to 6in in length including it's antennae. There was actually a second one. The second one was not as big. I didn't determine if it was still alive. And I vacuumed them up. An ant carcus can also be seen in the picture.

ID Request fruitfly or baby roach?

what is this bug i keep finding in my apartment? they tend to be on the floor by the door and refrigerator. i can’t get a picture of a live one they don’t sit still long enough and they’re pretty quick to run away. they vary somewhat in size but they’re all relatively small.

i found a larger brown bug that im positive was an adult cockroach of some kind, and im worried this could be a baby but im not sure bc my roommates keep telling me they aren’t roaches and make fun of me for being paranoid behind my back. am i paranoid or is this in fact a baby roach? i’ve politely requested them to clean up after themselves bc im concerned about a pest issue but they say these guys are just fruit flies coming from the drain, which i have seen in our apartment before but never on the ground like this. we live in south florida if thats helpful.

ID Request Bug found in bed…

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello all! I was getting an insane amount of bug bites for about a month in December and COULD NOT identify the culprit. Eventually they just stopped and I tried to forget about it. A couple months back, they restarted and I freaked out and moved, they stopped again! Now, in my new apartment, I just found this in my bed. Anyone have any thoughts? I haven’t had a bite since I left, so it could be completely unconnected but I can’t identify this guy online. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm in Perth Western Australia and my cat just ran out of my bedroom chasing this flying dude.

It was a little over an inch long with super long antenna. I'm sorry for the terrible pictures, I've edited them to clear them up as much as I can. It was trapped in a tub I wasn't gonna lift it!

Can anyone ID it for me? Thank you!

(To reassure the many insect lovers here, I promise it was released at the creek alive and well.)
