Pesos?

On point Community credit union is telling me it takes them three days to get pesos! Making a last-minute trip down to Mexico and really hoping to carry some pesos with me. Is there really nowhere to get pesos on short notice in our fair city?

Edit : sounds like you legitimately cannot get short notice pesos in Bend. I don’t know why I find that so hard to believe, but OK. I think the plan of bringing a couple of ATM/debit cards with card issuers knowing I am going to be in Mexico is the best idea.

Thanks to everyone for your quick help. Won’t waste time driving around to different banks.

Have you come across any roadside memorials in Central Oregon?

I'm an amateur photographer and have been taking photos of descansos -- those roadside memorials to accident victims you see here and there. There are a ton on Highway 97 but I am wondering if you have seen any elsewhere in and around Bend/Redmond/Prineville/Fossil/etc.?

You can see the photos I have already taken in Bend and Central Oregon at https://etpeterson.com/central-oregon-descansos/ if you're interested ... but they are kind of sad and yeah, the subject matter is sort of dark.

You can reply here or DM me locations if you know of any. Thanks!

Mini Cooper Mechanic Needed

I just moved here a week ago and now my 2012 Mini is leaking coolant. A pretty significant leak too. Does anyone have a good mechanic to reccomend? Maybe one that specializes in German cars? Or on the flip side, someone to avoid? Thanks!

Nearly hit a kid on an e-bike

I was looking for a parking space in the box factory about 5 minutes ago and about 5-6 tweens on e-bikes were racing through the parking lot doing wheelies. The kid who nearly hit my car looked scared as his reaction was slow as he swerved to miss the front of my car. All his friends laughed and cheered him on. Like it was a dare or something? Anyways, the speed at which this kid was coming at my car was way faster than I was slowly driving, looking for a parking spot. Be careful out there, yall

Housing policies

Genuine questions - our state has a state of emergency order for homelessness and in dire need of more housing, period. At what point is our city going to look at policies that allow for large companies to hold onto empty housing for extended time? For example, the condos on the corner of Boyd Acres and Empire - they have been empty for YEARS. And, why is there such a focus on a third party company allocating “affordable housing” it sounds like a straight up scam - why have the middle man? Why not just have grants for private citizens or housing specific matched savings accounts for citizens?

Requesting a crosswalk on a busy street?

I'd love for the city to consider adding a pedestrian crosswalk on Pettigrew Rd, but I'm a little stumped on where to begin in submitting a request. Has anyone had experience requesting anything like this through the City of Bend and can comment on the process, likelihood, etc? Thanks!

Where to Donate Crutches

Hello! I have two pairs of crutches in decent condition that are less than a year old. I was planning on taking them to Volunteers in Medicine, but for one reason or another they do not accept crutches for donation.

It feels wasteful to just put them in the trash. They are used of course, but not in bad shape. Any ideas where I can donate them? Or let me know if they would be of use to any of you!

Oregon Department of Justice Secures Court Victory in Ongoing Case Against Live Nation And Ticketmaster

Note: The Hayden Homes Amphitheater is a Live Nation Venue

“People are fed up with the outrageous fees they have to pay to see their favorite artists.”

Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced a victory in the multi-state case against Live Nation and its subsidiary, Ticketmaster. A judge in the Southern District of New York denied a motion by the two companies to dismiss parts of a lawsuit filed by a coalition of 40 states and the U.S. Department of Justice. The lawsuit, filed in May of 2024, alleged that Live Nation overcharged consumers, limited artists’ ability to perform at different venues and restricted venues it doesn’t own from working with other vendors.

“People are fed up with the outrageous fees they have to pay just to see their favorite artists put on a show,” Rayfield said. “This ruling is a win for consumers and artists. Live Nation and Ticketmaster don’t want to be held accountable for the monopoly they have created. We are going to fight to make sure Oregonians aren’t faced with these inflated prices, and that artists have control over where they perform.”

The multi-state lawsuit argues that Live Nation’s anticompetitive conduct causes fans to have to pay additional fees that are not transparent. Fans also have limited options when buying tickets and have fewer concert choices. The suit also notes that artists have fewer opportunities to play concerts, and fewer choices for promoting their concerts and selling tickets to their own shows.

The lawsuit is asking for civil penalties and that Live Nation and Ticketmaster give back the money they obtained through illegal or unethical means. The coalition is also asking the court to stop the companies’ monopolistic behavior that is harming consumers, artists, and venues.

Joining Attorney General Rayfield and DOJ in the lawsuit are the attorneys general of Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and the District of Columbia.

Tesla Protest - Today at 5:00pm, bring a sign, or just yourself.

  • What: Say No! to King Musk
  • When: Tuesday, April 1, 5-6 PM (and Tuesdays at 5 thereafter)
  • Where: Tesla Dealer Bend, 63040 N Business 97 across from the DMV

Sponsors: Vocal Seniority and Indivisible Sisters

Tesla Takedown, a national movement to hit Elon Musk in the pocketbook, continues to grow nationwide. As special March 29 protest organized by the national Tesla Takedown movement drew 82 participants in Bend. Protests in Bend have been ongoing since late February and will continue every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the Tesla dealership, 63040 N Hwy 97.

PC Mag reported on March 30 that "Amid widespread backlash against his businesses, Elon Musk this week teased a late spring exit from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)....Musk's DOGE activity has had a particularly adverse effect on Tesla. A report from YouGov found that Americans are now 12.8% more likely to have a negative than a positive opinion of Tesla, with this rising to 35% among those who describe themselves as liberals."

Vocal Seniority member Jerry Freilich, who has attended the Bend Tesla protests since the beginning, wants to make it clear that the intent is not to hurt anyone in the community or damage any vehicles.

"We have no hard feelings for Tesla owners, our Tesla dealer, or anyone else except Elon Musk," he says. "We're committed to doing everything we can to take him down financially, and will work toward that goal as long as he has the power to hurt our country. These protests are the only weapon we have. They're the only weapon we want."

This is a NATIONAL MOVEMENT. For more info the Big Picture visit: http://www.teslatakedown.com
