He sounds/looks like he wants to go out the door. Have you ever thought about getting a harness for him and taking him out? My void has no desire to go out, but my white cat loves to visit the outside.

240

u/Iron_Phantom29 1d ago

Adventurous cloud.

243

u/Ok-Appointment4778 1d ago

OMG the little wings on the harness!!!! 😭💖

45

u/tachycardicIVu 1d ago

The wing harnesses are the absolute cutest.

54

u/GeoCommie 1d ago

Gonna have to ask where you got your harness at, Ziggy would look dapper in that

42

u/RadyOmi 1d ago

I honestly don't remember. It's probably a decade old by now (Jazzy is 13). But don't let the cute looks fool you 😈.

1

u/Alive_Air_2625 13h ago

Ziggy is my void’s name!!

2

u/GeoCommie 2h ago

This is my Ziggy

2

u/GeoCommie 2h ago

This is his brother and void “Zag”

1

u/ThatEvilSpaceChicken 16h ago

Yes! People make out like letting your cats outside is the most abusive thing you can do to an animal, but cats are naturally outdoor creatures. Give them the opportunity to have outside time (with appropriate safety), don't keep them locked up all day against their wills

u/AdventurousGoose7291 13h ago

Omg I'm dying right now because of this picture its so cute 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

u/Tiny_Addendum707 1d ago

My void is very vocal. No matter the reason.

193

u/AndrysThorngage 1d ago

Mine, too. He has screamy times of day. All of his wants and needs are met, he just has a lot to say.

201

u/indiefatiguable 1d ago

My void will have full-blown conversations with us. Or himself. Or nobody. I can't tell you how many times we think he must be locked up somewhere screaming for freedom, only to go looking and find him lounging atop his tower howling into the corner. We think he likes the way it echoes back at him.

Also, he is allergic to closed doors and will loudly insult them until they open. Especially at bedtime or when The Humans need to poop.

TL;DR: Voids are weird.

Cat tax of my opera (op-purr-a?) singer in training.

u/Dazzling-Walrus9673 1d ago

Our void trills at the basement door until we open it. Most of the time she walks away when we do.

A while ago after we’d open the door, she used to sleep on the top step going down to the basement.

Now she just wants us to reassure her that step is still there

7

u/PM_ME_YO_KNITTING 23h ago

My orange boy likes to go sit in the bathtub to howl. We also assume it’s because of the acoustics.

2

u/indiefatiguable 23h ago

Ah, yes, the bathtub is another favorite spot for our boy!

Your sweet orange is so cute! 😻

25

u/brabarusmark 1d ago

My void vocalizes displeasure, usually when I have disturbed her 20th nap of the day.

5

u/NerfRepellingBoobs 1d ago

Mine argues with us. He is persistent.

31

u/puntapuntapunta 1d ago

Mine always has something to say, constantly.

I think voids are just highly vocal in general.

30

u/thetobesgeorge 1d ago

That or dead silent…

One of our Void boys will always say hi when he sees you, call out asking where people are if he’s on his own (even with open door and even if he has just walked away), chat with us
Best thing, he plays hide and seek, meowing at each of the seeks

The other Void boy is usually always dead silent, he’s the silent schemer, and by far the smartest of our three, he’s also extremely affectionate and expressive, he’s mastered communicating with us, as we’ll respond verbally to his communications (be it looks, slow blinks, indicating what we wants, indicating annoyance/overwhelmed) and he’ll respond in his language and he and I especially work so well together
Best thing, this boy never tires of affection and wherever there are scritches to be had, he immediately runs over

9

u/Newchap 1d ago

Mine is also dead silent, but great at communicating. His preferred way of getting attention is gently tapping my foot. If ignored, the intensity increases until he ends up standing with full weight on my foot lol.

3

u/thetobesgeorge 23h ago

Our silent boy will show his impatience by sitting normally and doing biscuits with one paw while making eye contact as though he’s putting his foot down
Our third cat (white with black patches - all are litter mates) she will stand on my foot whenever she wants my attention too

4

u/BaconHammer9000 1d ago

Your silent void sounds just like my void Winston. his older brother - a tuxedo named Zeke - is vey vocal and i like to joke that he does all the talking for the both of them

2

u/_extra_medium_ 1d ago

Like all cats

1

u/_extra_medium_ 1d ago

I don't think the fur color has anything to do with their personality lol. Some cats are vocal, some aren't. Some are friendly, some aren't

12

u/wishypoos 1d ago

Mine goes into full Mrs Weasley-mode when I get home from work. "Where HAAAAAAAVE you been???"

But after he gets his cuddles, he's a happy little floofer.

4

u/mahouyousei 1d ago

Same! I joke that I’m gonna buy him recording equipment and let him start a podcast. “Nuit’s ‘Pinons” since he has so many about everything.

4

u/Munrowo 1d ago

my calico is super vocal but her sister who's a void has the tiniest little meows, and only when i'm in the bathroom for too long (more than 15 seconds)

5

u/Xeni966 1d ago

My void is usually quiet. My non void is very vocal sometimes, but I've never found the reason any time I check on her. I think she does it because she knows I'll give her some attention (which she also isn't being on being pet, but okay) or simply because she can

3

u/LocoDarkWrath 1d ago

Yeah, by boy does that at the door to the closet in my office. He has no need to be in there.

2

u/NotAlwaysGifs 1d ago

Ours too. Most notably, he always announces to the entire house when he about to go take a shit.

217

u/DryUnderstanding1752 1d ago

I've always thought of those as a more "searching for something" meows. Where does the door lead to? Did someone recently leave?

85

u/HalfBoyHalfGhost 1d ago

It’s the hallway , he makes this noise even when away from the door. Any ideas?

71

u/Jellily 1d ago

My void would do exactly this at the door to my office when she wanted in to cuddle. It was her way of politely asking to be let in.

44

u/NZSheeps 1d ago

Mine will walk out of the room and then start calling because she can't find anybody

5

u/Jellily 1d ago

My other void would do that 😂

20

u/Substantial-Tone-576 1d ago

He’s bored.

16

u/CaffeinatedQueef 1d ago

It wants to know where you go and what is out there. Take the baby for walk! Make sure they have vax tho

5

u/whatiswrongwithme675 1d ago

Could be that someone is making noise walking past? I'm assuming you live in an apartment.

16

u/lky830 1d ago

Yeah, if anything, the cat in the video seems bored and curious. He wants to get into an adventure.

He definitely doesn’t seem “sad”.

99

u/Spare_Step_3729 1d ago

Play with him. Mine gets restless as hell and acts all needy and weird until we have a play sesh

69

u/Guytrying2readanswer 1d ago

Just being vocal. Cats don’t like closed doors.

30

u/tetranordeh 1d ago

They especially don't like when the fridge door is closed. Obviously they should have unlimited wet dinner!

19

u/Guytrying2readanswer 1d ago

Mine thinks he should be able to walk into and inspect the contents of the fridge. Always got to watch I don’t shut him inside.

2

u/farmpatrol 1d ago

Haha omg my cat hasn’t figured out the fridge is a door…I will guard this secret with my life!

2

u/Guytrying2readanswer 23h ago

Probably will discover it later today…

2

u/farmpatrol 23h ago

Lol I really hope not. It’s a Velcro situation already. Don’t need him following me to my midnight snacks 😆

45

u/DolemiteGK 1d ago

He's "sad" that you have a closed door - he probably doesnt like that.

What a floof!

17

u/beckjami 1d ago

These are the same kind of meows my Kevin makes when she is carrying her beanie babies around the house.

14

u/pandascuriosity 1d ago

My boy has a whole vocabulary of meows but this one sounds most like the one he uses when he wants something. I think all cats are different though. My boy hasn’t cried yet but my other cats who have the meows were more stretched out like Meowwwwww and louder and go on for a long time

12

u/plaiterbj 1d ago

Such a floof

12

u/PoopingDogEyeContact 1d ago

Mine is so quiet except when she plays with some toys I sewed her - at first I thought she was injured and freaked tf out… it took a while to recognize that sound and not panic but ya she loves her little toys, carries them around the house

7

u/LALA-STL 1d ago

Same noises our Ricky Minx made after she would steal the dish sponge from the kitchen sink & carry it upstairs to us as a hunting trophy. At first we thought she was lost or upset, but then we recognized it as the Song of Her People. Yours sounds like he just needs attention, u/HalfBoyHalfGhost.

31

u/HappilyDyke 1d ago

He wants to go outside and murder birds.

Mine does this daily. But I like birds. So he's stuck inside unless he is on his harness and being watched.

8

u/ArtXIII 1d ago

He's bored

6

u/Big_Breath_2561 1d ago

I bet it’s the closed door. My cat has a no closed door policy.

5

u/Miz_momo82 1d ago

He wants out of that door. He looks and sounds just like my girl

6

u/LilBlueOnk 1d ago

He just wants out, mine does something similar.

6

u/TacticalTaco30 1d ago

He is longing for the wilderness or treats hard to say.

2

u/LALA-STL 1d ago

Perhaps he is responding to the Call of the Wild.

4

u/Affectionate_Mood_69 1d ago

My black cat is the most talkative in the house

5

u/Brandalicious_1 1d ago

He wants you to open that door

4

u/MasalaGGG2of3 1d ago

Maybe he needs a friend

4

u/MurasakiMochi89 1d ago

This is definitely the let me out meow lol my void does this when it's his curfew then settles down

3

u/laurasaurus 1d ago

My void sounds so forlorn when I have the bathroom door shut lol. She sounds like just the saddest creature. But all she wants is to go in there and knock stuff off the counter or to open the cabinets and get under the sink. I usually play with her for a bit to distract her from the door being shut.

5

u/BZBitiko 1d ago

Bored. Entertain me.

10

u/al_m1101 1d ago

Nope, he is perfectly content and just vocalizing/conversating with his hooman.

He's saying- I WISH I could go explore beyond this door, but it's not going to kill me if I don't.

You could always put a harness on him and walk him around outside on a leash?

But that's just me, I don't let my babies outside to roam freely.

3

u/Tyr_Kukulkan 1d ago

Our void also has a lot to say. Often complaints about not going out for walkies right meow, wanting to play right meow, or just wanting out attention right meow.

He can be very demanding.

Other times he just talks. He wants to tell us about everything. I talk to him too, to keep him engaged.

3

u/meowmeowfeatures 1d ago

My cat does this action and a similar meow when she's done a poo and wants us to clean the litter. Every cat is different but just sharing that in case it could fit 💕

3

u/roshan231 1d ago

He wants to go outside.

Whether you let him or not is up to you.

3

u/DatOneAxolotl 1d ago

Cats hate closed doors. Its not that they want to be in that area, its that they can't stand not having access to an area.

1

u/Keekee4101 22h ago

This is true. My cat doesn't like to be IN or OUTSIDE of doors. She'll let us hear it if she is. The only door she won't leave is the front door. Cats are extremely intelligent.

12

u/Waste-Analysis-8953 1d ago

Get him a friend. You should always have two.

17

u/Trollensky17 1d ago

I have two cats that are sisters and they don't like each other lol

10

u/Live-Okra-9868 1d ago

I was going to say these are the meows my cats make when they are looking for each other.

2

u/-Smudgie 1d ago

Is that a door? Maybe he wants out.

2

u/No-Designer-7362 1d ago

Mine is very vocal. Always has been. Is he left alone often? If so, he might need a companion. I’m fortunate that it’s rare mine is ever alone.

2

u/Acceptable-Aerie-741 1d ago

Sad that he can’t go out but nothing too bad.

2

u/delayed_burn 1d ago

My void was for the streets since she was a kitten. Just joking. She did legitimately fight me and tried to escape every chance she got. But she ran into a an issue out there and kind of got scared into staying indoors. Every once in awhile she'll try and rush out when I come home, but she ends up just sitting in a spot just in the front and stays there. Some cats want to go outside, some are prefer inside, and some don't know what they want. In any case, I take her for walks when I can.

2

u/Hot-Connection8711 1d ago

demanding you to open the door!

2

u/GoddessFelina 1d ago

Those sound like my cats “I’m bored” meows. He’s probably being dramatic like mine when he obsesses getting into closets he shouldn’t be in.

2

u/Tanibus_Mushroom 1d ago

My void will just cry and vocalize for no reason, so at some point I just started saying “whaaaat?” In the same tone that he meows. (I also give him attention dw)

2

u/michatel_24991 1d ago

Orange cat behaviour haha

2

u/evercynical 1d ago

My void and his cow cat sister hate closed doors. They will shove their face under it and cry, especially if someone is on the other side of it. They also have a tendency to swat toys under the door and cry until you open it for them so they can retrieve it 😂

2

u/Ksh_667 1d ago

Cats are expert manipulators. He senses what works best on you to get his own way & uses it. Successfully it seems from your post!

Is he well fed & watered? Does he have toys to amuse him? Does he have love from his hoomin? Then he's not sad. Just very, very good at getting what he wants 😹😹😹

2

u/sarcastic-wolf 1d ago

When my cat does that he wants to play, or generally wants attention.

2

u/chuiu 1d ago

He's meowing to let you know he wants something. In this case he wants to explore past that door. My void does the same thing minus the scratching at the door.

2

u/FlashesandFlickers 1d ago

I'd say bored/frustrated. Also, closer vocabulary to the Siamese cats I've known

2

u/Baldrich146 22h ago

He wants to be on the other side!

2

u/Capable_Rich_2834 1d ago

thats just the i want something scream. if you want him to stop, you'll probably just have to give in and open the door for him lol. maybe get a little cat door for him so he doesn't have to scream each time he wants to go on an adventure.

1

u/MeLlamoMariaLuisa 1d ago

My cat makes that meow when he wants to go outside

1

u/Queensama 1d ago

She's bored. Give her attention and stimulation.

1

u/draizetrain 1d ago

These are whiny crybaby meows. He wants that door open

1

u/Opening-Gap7198 1d ago

When my void meows like this, she either wants to go outside , or have treats

1

u/Traditional-Ride3793 1d ago

He’s saying; open the door, I miss you. My cat does it to me every day when I take a shower. Exactly the same.

1

u/Telistai 1d ago

Boredum meows

1

u/Playful_Canary_7289 1d ago

Loving the ventriloquist yawn!

1

u/areyouoldgreg 1d ago

My void also meows and turns it into a yawn. It's so cute! He probably wants to play.

1

u/Redfour5 1d ago

IF their behavior changes and they cry something is going on. This just happened to me and over about three weeks my 16 year old started acting "different." Then appetite changes, but mostly normal with some vocalization. She'd stare at me and meow, somewhat unusual.

So, went to the vet had bloodwork done and a physical check. First she is showing signs of osteo arthritis. Signs, matts toward the back as she can't bend enough to get there. They have gotten worse over the last month...

But the big problem that showed up was hyper thyroidism which can be easily treated. She was obviously progressing with OA but then the thryoid goes and you start seeing changes.

A visit to a vet objectively speaking to symptoms is a start. I swear they will vocalize to make you aware something is not right if they just started it. They instinctively try to not show signs of weakness from a hard wired survival standpoint but if you are trusted. If you have other cats that get along, they will try to communicate to you about the sick one. Really... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3-252FzZ2U

Don't underestimate them... I think they know more than they let on...

1

u/Mindless-Praline-585 1d ago

Those are the sounds mine makes when she wants me to open the door and let her out. Or open the garbage can to let her in. Or open the treat container to give her more...

1

u/IllustratorMurky2725 1d ago

He might need a friend. In my area you can get adult cats for free.

1

u/prettybunbun 1d ago

Cats hate closed doors. Doesn’t matter what’s behind it, they just hate it. I have a patio door, one of my voids will scream at it every night. I open it and he runs into the garage, has a look around and runs back in. Occasionally he’ll want to hang for a bit but I bring him back inside and he doesn’t care. He just wanted to ‘see the other side’.

1

u/saiyanshewolf 1d ago

Our baby void Thor is very chatty. Her orange big sister Loki is not (unless it’s time for food). We’re still in the introductory phase for them so I’m interested to see how Loki will deal with Thor’s chattiness…she’s been an only cat for 8 years.

1

u/Much-Scar2821 1d ago

He's just a void, singing the song of his people 🐱

1

u/strangway 1d ago

That’s just his voice.

Barry White could say the weather report and sound sexy, that was just his voice.

1

u/Atrenu 1d ago

"excuse me this door is closed and it needs to be opened" meows more like

1

u/haikusbot 1d ago

"excuse me this door

Is closed and it needs to be

Opened" meows more like

My male cat was the noisiest one of the bunch

1

u/sabimcstabby 1d ago

I have the same breed, he might just want your attention, pets, to see what’s on the other side of the door (mine will literally just look behind something and be content and come back inside). Or he’s just a meower. Apparently this breed is pretty vocal. Also if you talk to him, he might just be mimicking you

1

u/EquivalentEconomy551 1d ago

Owner of Two Cats here. The reason this is happening is because cats often view your home as THEIR domain, and thus, they want access to every room in the house in order to keep an eye on things, and get very confused and loud when they don't have access to a part of their domain.

Sometimes they want to have the door open just so they can go to other parts of their domain, but sometimes, they want to be with YOU specifically, and there's a door closed (Bedroom, Bathroom, etc)

1

u/Angryprincess38 1d ago

That's voidese for time to go outside.

1

u/Allemaengel 1d ago

Mine looks EXACTLY like yours and he does the same thing.

1

u/Small_Cock_Jonny 1d ago

Maybe wants you to open the door

1

u/Ok-Palpitation-5010 1d ago

He's asking you to open the door

1

u/After_Enthusiasm0 1d ago

So fluffy:з

1

u/Zestyclose_Public_47 23h ago

My prince of darkness just likes walking around the house screaming. No particular reason at all

1

u/KyaLauren 22h ago

My void boy does this when he needs to play or wants attention!

1

u/mattythook 20h ago

Let him out!

1

u/dumb_answers_only 19h ago

My black cat talks a lot and has a very whinny cry meow. I felt like I missed the chance to name him Godzilla

1

u/Cyber-Sicario 19h ago

The cat sounds bored. Maybe a harness to show him outside or a new toy to play with him.

1

u/[deleted] 18h ago

Mine has full blown arguments with his toy cactus! 🌵

1

u/Kimtacular 18h ago

It means my cat wants to go for a walk

1

u/Truth-Bomb1988 7h ago

ATTENTION meows he wants you to open the door. That's for sure.

0

u/maxfederle 1d ago

Might want outside, might just be talking to you.
