He sounds/looks like he wants to go out the door. Have you ever thought about getting a harness for him and taking him out? My void has no desire to go out, but my white cat loves to visit the outside.
Yes! People make out like letting your cats outside is the most abusive thing you can do to an animal, but cats are naturally outdoor creatures. Give them the opportunity to have outside time (with appropriate safety), don't keep them locked up all day against their wills
My void will have full-blown conversations with us. Or himself. Or nobody. I can't tell you how many times we think he must be locked up somewhere screaming for freedom, only to go looking and find him lounging atop his tower howling into the corner. We think he likes the way it echoes back at him.
Also, he is allergic to closed doors and will loudly insult them until they open. Especially at bedtime or when The Humans need to poop.
TL;DR: Voids are weird.
Cat tax of my opera (op-purr-a?) singer in training.
One of our Void boys will always say hi when he sees you, call out asking where people are if he’s on his own (even with open door and even if he has just walked away), chat with us
Best thing, he plays hide and seek, meowing at each of the seeks
The other Void boy is usually always dead silent, he’s the silent schemer, and by far the smartest of our three, he’s also extremely affectionate and expressive, he’s mastered communicating with us, as we’ll respond verbally to his communications (be it looks, slow blinks, indicating what we wants, indicating annoyance/overwhelmed) and he’ll respond in his language and he and I especially work so well together
Best thing, this boy never tires of affection and wherever there are scritches to be had, he immediately runs over
Mine is also dead silent, but great at communicating. His preferred way of getting attention is gently tapping my foot. If ignored, the intensity increases until he ends up standing with full weight on my foot lol.
Our silent boy will show his impatience by sitting normally and doing biscuits with one paw while making eye contact as though he’s putting his foot down
Our third cat (white with black patches - all are litter mates) she will stand on my foot whenever she wants my attention too
Your silent void sounds just like my void Winston. his older brother - a tuxedo named Zeke - is vey vocal and i like to joke that he does all the talking for the both of them
my calico is super vocal but her sister who's a void has the tiniest little meows, and only when i'm in the bathroom for too long (more than 15 seconds)
My void is usually quiet. My non void is very vocal sometimes, but I've never found the reason any time I check on her. I think she does it because she knows I'll give her some attention (which she also isn't being on being pet, but okay) or simply because she can
My boy has a whole vocabulary of meows but this one sounds most like the one he uses when he wants something. I think all cats are different though. My boy hasn’t cried yet but my other cats who have the meows were more stretched out like Meowwwwww and louder and go on for a long time
Mine is so quiet except when she plays with some toys I sewed her - at first I thought she was injured and freaked tf out… it took a while to recognize that sound and not panic but ya she loves her little toys, carries them around the house
Same noises our Ricky Minx made after she would steal the dish sponge from the kitchen sink & carry it upstairs to us as a hunting trophy. At first we thought she was lost or upset, but then we recognized it as the Song of Her People. Yours sounds like he just needs attention, u/HalfBoyHalfGhost.
My void sounds so forlorn when I have the bathroom door shut lol. She sounds like just the saddest creature. But all she wants is to go in there and knock stuff off the counter or to open the cabinets and get under the sink. I usually play with her for a bit to distract her from the door being shut.
Our void also has a lot to say. Often complaints about not going out for walkies right meow, wanting to play right meow, or just wanting out attention right meow.
He can be very demanding.
Other times he just talks. He wants to tell us about everything. I talk to him too, to keep him engaged.
My cat does this action and a similar meow when she's done a poo and wants us to clean the litter. Every cat is different but just sharing that in case it could fit 💕
This is true. My cat doesn't like to be IN or OUTSIDE of doors. She'll let us hear it if she is. The only door she won't leave is the front door. Cats are extremely intelligent.
My void was for the streets since she was a kitten. Just joking. She did legitimately fight me and tried to escape every chance she got. But she ran into a an issue out there and kind of got scared into staying indoors. Every once in awhile she'll try and rush out when I come home, but she ends up just sitting in a spot just in the front and stays there. Some cats want to go outside, some are prefer inside, and some don't know what they want. In any case, I take her for walks when I can.
My void will just cry and vocalize for no reason, so at some point I just started saying “whaaaat?” In the same tone that he meows. (I also give him attention dw)
My void and his cow cat sister hate closed doors. They will shove their face under it and cry, especially if someone is on the other side of it. They also have a tendency to swat toys under the door and cry until you open it for them so they can retrieve it 😂
Cats are expert manipulators. He senses what works best on you to get his own way & uses it. Successfully it seems from your post!
Is he well fed & watered? Does he have toys to amuse him? Does he have love from his hoomin? Then he's not sad. Just very, very good at getting what he wants 😹😹😹
He's meowing to let you know he wants something. In this case he wants to explore past that door. My void does the same thing minus the scratching at the door.
thats just the i want something scream. if you want him to stop, you'll probably just have to give in and open the door for him lol. maybe get a little cat door for him so he doesn't have to scream each time he wants to go on an adventure.
IF their behavior changes and they cry something is going on. This just happened to me and over about three weeks my 16 year old started acting "different." Then appetite changes, but mostly normal with some vocalization. She'd stare at me and meow, somewhat unusual.
So, went to the vet had bloodwork done and a physical check. First she is showing signs of osteo arthritis. Signs, matts toward the back as she can't bend enough to get there. They have gotten worse over the last month...
But the big problem that showed up was hyper thyroidism which can be easily treated. She was obviously progressing with OA but then the thryoid goes and you start seeing changes.
A visit to a vet objectively speaking to symptoms is a start. I swear they will vocalize to make you aware something is not right if they just started it. They instinctively try to not show signs of weakness from a hard wired survival standpoint but if you are trusted. If you have other cats that get along, they will try to communicate to you about the sick one. Really... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3-252FzZ2U
Don't underestimate them... I think they know more than they let on...
Those are the sounds mine makes when she wants me to open the door and let her out. Or open the garbage can to let her in. Or open the treat container to give her more...
Cats hate closed doors. Doesn’t matter what’s behind it, they just hate it. I have a patio door, one of my voids will scream at it every night. I open it and he runs into the garage, has a look around and runs back in. Occasionally he’ll want to hang for a bit but I bring him back inside and he doesn’t care. He just wanted to ‘see the other side’.
Our baby void Thor is very chatty. Her orange big sister Loki is not (unless it’s time for food). We’re still in the introductory phase for them so I’m interested to see how Loki will deal with Thor’s chattiness…she’s been an only cat for 8 years.
I have the same breed, he might just want your attention, pets, to see what’s on the other side of the door (mine will literally just look behind something and be content and come back inside). Or he’s just a meower. Apparently this breed is pretty vocal. Also if you talk to him, he might just be mimicking you
Owner of Two Cats here. The reason this is happening is because cats often view your home as THEIR domain, and thus, they want access to every room in the house in order to keep an eye on things, and get very confused and loud when they don't have access to a part of their domain.
Sometimes they want to have the door open just so they can go to other parts of their domain, but sometimes, they want to be with YOU specifically, and there's a door closed (Bedroom, Bathroom, etc)
