Discussion Today I discovered that "4K is useless at 27 inch" is an outdated ignorant opinion.

For so many years I avoided 27" 4K because I come across posts like this which instead of just admitting we don't have enough power to power 4K, they somehow claim that 4K has fraction scaling issues at 27" for whatever reason.

Now that we have enough power and dlss4 upscaling in case power isn't enough, I just got a 27" 4K and I have it side by side with a 1440p display. I almost can't look at my 1440p display anymore due to how blurry it looks in comparison. The difference in text clarity makes me think about selling my 1440p and getting another 4K as it's getting less tolerable everyday. The difference in gaming visuals is also big but truth be told it didn't absolutely blow my mind, it's still noticeable enough to be worth the money.

Honestly I have a feeling most of these claims on reddit are just self-reassurance for having a 1440p which is still totally fine to own. I often have buyers remose and regret my purchases so I rant about the things I buy instead of praising them. However I genuinely believe there's no way you have a healthy eyesight and can look at 27" 4K and say you don't see a noticeable upgrade over 1440p.

Discussion Bought an RTX 5070ti instead of 4080super.

Yesterday I built my first ever pc after using gaming laptops for years and years and where I live the 5070ti is like 20$ less in price than 4080super.

I spent a lot of time thinking at the store while the guy literally waiting for me to make a decision (he was really polite) then I decided to get the 5070ti with the reasoning that it has a near identical unnoticeable performance difference to 4080super AND it's a latest gen card with all the support for future improvements or updates.

Was I wrong in thinking that in that context and should I return it?

I am not an expert and I really didn't see any noticeable difference at the store (1~7 FPS according to the game) and went home really happy but lots of people since yesterday keep telling me I got scammed.

Thanks in advance.

Troubleshooting Feel like an idiot and I’m going to lose my job if I don’t fix this.

I’m a bit panicky and don’t know what to do:

I purchased a PC from an “expert pc builder” approximately two years ago, and I’ve encountered issues that I genuinely can’t comprehend.

(Since then, I’ve used the PC regularly for gaming and demanding post-production work.)

Recently, I encountered a problem where any application that requires the GPU would automatically disconnect my monitor from the PC. Felt like a hacker or genius when I conducted stress tests and utilised monitoring software to investigate the issue. I luckily discovered that the wattage on my GPU was significantly low. Upon opening the PC, I found that the PCI-e slot on my PSU had been burnt after removing the cable with pliers. Apparently, the individual who built the PC had only utilised one PCI slot on the PSU to power the entire graphics card, effectively underpowering it.

Humbly, While I may be mistaken about the cause and effect, I now understand that using a splitter with a GPU that requires substantially more power is not a wise decision (I understand a lot of redditors shit on others for not knowing this). I regret not being aware of this when purchasing the PC and wish I had checked it with this knowledge.

The current predicament is that I can’t find a cable replacement from Cougar to determine if my GPU is damaged. I’ve heard that using different branded power cables is a significant no-no.

I’m at a loss for what to do next and would greatly appreciate assistance from someone knowledgeable, as I reside in a country where PC builders are generally not renowned for their expertise, and this issue was allegedly caused by an “industry expert.” (FYI I live in Dubai, so enough said about that)

I’m really in a problem because the computer sitting in the corner of my room having the time of its life whilst I can’t work without it and don’t know what to do!!

Build Help Inexperienced PC Builder - Where Am I Going Wrong?

Upvotes

Tax return season is here & the US Government was pretty generous this time around.

I made this list below & would like to know opinions on if:
1. Its susceptible to bottlenecking
2. I am spending much more money in one place than I need to
3. The PC is compatible- MB, CPU, etc (This is a nightmare of mine)
4. This would be a rig you would build

Key Notes:
- I do not care about what the rig looks like (RGB, color coordination, etc)
- I primarily game & stream/record/content create (No 3D Rendering, graphical design, etc)
- My top-end budget is $3700

Build Upgrade 5600x is tired. 7800X3D v 265k

My 5600x pc is struggling with UE5 games and is being bottlenecked even on medium settings with my 6800xt. Therefore, I’m looking to buy a new CPU and mobo.

I do game at 1080p (lame I know, but I like maximum fps) and am looking at the 7800X3D and 265k as viable replacements. I see the 265k at MC for 299 shipped, but am struggling to find the 7800X3D for under 399. Is it worth $100 more? Or will the ram I need to get make the cost a wash?

I do mostly gaming but do a little productivity stuff on the side. Probably 90% gaming though.

Build Help $400 Price difference between 7800XT and 4070 Ti Super

I am building my first gaming PC, and these are the specs so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JBYbGJ

Where I am from, the 4070 Ti Super is priced at exactly 1000 USD.
While I am getting an AMD 7800XT for 530 USD, and the AMD 7900XT 20GB is priced at 725 USD.

My main work on this PC will be gaming, and then software development (Flutter/Node).

From what I read online at this price point 7800XT is the go-to choice.
Still, I would like other members' thoughts and insights before making a decision.

Thank you so much for reading and helping!

Build Help First Time PC Building, Need Advice

Upvotes

English is not my first language so I would like to apologise for any misinterpretations. I am currently building my first PC after using laptops my whole life. I know my way around a laptop but have no experience at all with a pc. I have been researching for the past month but quickly got overwhelmed So I come here today to get advice from my betters.

These are my Specs:

Case: Over steel Aeris(It's a generic German M-ATX case)

Motherboard: Asrock B850m Pro-A

Power supply: Be quiet straight power 11 750w Full Modular

Ram: 32GB DDR5 G.Skill trident Z5 neo 6000MT/s CL36

GPU: Gigabyte OC rx 7800xt

Processor: Ryzen 5 7600x

Heatsink: Thermalright Peerless assassin 120 se

SSD: Samsung 970 Evo plus 1TB

Sata: 2.5 inch Adata 1TB

Fans: I don't know anything at all about those

The reason I came here is because I had a few questions. Firstly, what do I do about fans? I know I need to have more intake fans than output since that will create positive pressure. I also know that I need to put the ram in dual channel slots. Secondly, I am really concerned about the PSU cabling. I know nothing about setting up PSU cables and attaching everything correctly. I know the biggest is the 24pin which is for the motherboard.

All the parts are currently in transit and will most probably arrive by the day after tomorrow. I woul greatly appreciate any advice regarding my question and also any general advice for a first time PC as well. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Discussion Is a Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 7 5700x3D a good upgrade?

My PC: RTX 3060 12 GB, R5 3600, 16GB Ram 3000 MHZ, MSI B550M PRO VDH. I just got that mobo and an ATX case, im planning to get 16x2 gb 3600 mhz ram and a new cpu, will the ryzen 7 5700x3d be good? Im playing on 1080p, I feel like my r5 3600 is falling short on some new games.

Troubleshooting Am I doing something wrong with my AIO cooler?

I have the radiator at mounted at the top of the case and have the fans pushing the air through the radiator. It's idle temperature is a about 40 degrees Celsius. When I'm playing something it will go as high as 90 temporarily before going down to the low 80s or into the seventies. Liquid temperature goes from 24-32. The cooler is a NZXT Kraken 360. Does this all sound normal and I'm just being paranoid or does it sound like somethings off? Thank you for your consideration.

Troubleshooting In need of some help with an overheating CPU!

Upvotes

Fast Update! We did order a new cooler, so I'll let you all know how installation of that goes! Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, I've this computer since 2019, but I have swapped out multiple elements since then. It has all been good until very recently, when I noticed that my CPU was sitting at 100 degrees C on idle. Really not sure what could be causing it now, so here I am.

Of Note: I did use MSI Afterburner to attempt to understand overclocking of my GPU at one point in the past. I'm not 100% if that's relevant here but I will put it out here because it is something.

Now the specs:
Motherboard (if it even matters): B760M DS3H DDR4

CPU: I5-12400
Stock cooler for now but I intend to update this when I have money to do so

GPU (if that matters either): RTX 3060

32 Gigs of Ram (Updated from 16 yesterday thinking it was part of the issue)

What I've done:
- Cleaned off and reapplied thermal paste twice

-- I had a Cooler Master tower cooler for my old CPU/Motherboard, but I couldn't use it for this new setup. All to say that I have used thermal paste from that, so maybe the age of it could be part of the issue? Not sure how it works.

- Checked for any viruses multiple times

-- Doubted this completely but why not?

- Stayed calm ! :)

HWMonitor screenshots are here: https://imgur.com/a/WEIAY36

I am asking humbly for help here. I don't really have much money to buy anything right now, but if it comes down to it, I can definitely replace at least some things. If you need any more information, please let me know! Thanks in advance!

Build Upgrade Upgrading graphics card and possibly processor

Upvotes

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card and have been out of the PC building game for a little bit so I'm unsure what will provide the best bang for the buck. Currently running a 2070 Super and a Ryzen 5 3600x. I'd like to upgrade so I can get better performance at 1440p than I'm currently getting on modern games but I'm unsure if my processor would bottleneck any newer graphics card. I'm looking to hopefully stay under $700-800 for the graphics card.

Build Help How to fit hdplex gan 250W psu in Fractal Node 304?

Hey! So i'm building a homelab server and since I've found out about this PSU unit - I'm a little obsessed with it and it's efficiency on low consumption. I expect that most of the time my build will consume around 50W or so with rare spikes to higher values. So it makes hdplex very anticipated choice.

HOWEVER.

However it won't fit in any case I'd like to have and that's a real problem and pain in the ass. So I came here for some advice if you please.

Maybe there are other decent cases like Node304? Maybe there are other decent gan psu units with nice efficiency? or maybe there are some hacks or ways to fit hdplex into node.

Thanks!

Build Ready Build check any suggestions appreciated

Build Ready:

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Gaming, game development, art/content creation. Haven't built since 2018. Current build is Intel Core i7-8700 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor and an MSI GTX 1060 6GB 6 GB Video Card

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

I currently have a Asus VG248QE 24.0" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor. I'm thinking of keeping it. I'm not sure if the Oled will be too much of a contrast.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

£3500

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

UK

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I'm down to suggestions on peripherals i might have missed. I'm not sure if i should get a new secondary monitor but a second OLED is pushing the budget. My second monitor will just have code docs or twitch/discord. I also am not sure if i should upgrade my power supply or use my old 750W I listed above.

Discussion Is it a virus?

Ran a full Malwarebytes scan with safe mode last week, took like 4 hours, then the screen just went black—no signal. Restarted and worked just fine. Tried again today, same thing happened. Is that normal or could it be some kind of virus?

Tried using the mouse and keyboard—nothing showed up, but they were still on.

Build Upgrade I need a new CPU

Good morning everyone! So...my current computer has an I5 3470, 16gb RAM, 480SSD, GTX 1650 and a 650w power supply. (and h61 motherboard) I know the setup is pretty basic, but I don't have a lot of money and I live in Brazil, where, Due to taxes, computer parts are very expensive. My CPU is no longer supporting my GPU, which was not made for it. Could someone recommend me a better processor than the i5 3470 without having to spend a lot? It doesn't have to be the BEST processor, just better than my current one.

(sorry for the horrible English, I'm using Google Translate because I speak Portuguese)

Troubleshooting 9800x3d high idle temps

Hello,

I recently built a new pc and im having trouble with high temperatures.

Cpu: 9800x3d Mobo: Msi B850 Gaming Plus Wifi Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 Ram: Trident Z5 Neo 6000 cl36 2x16 gb Graphics Card: 9070 xt Power supply: be quiet straight power 12 850w Case: be quiet shadowbase 800fx

When completely idle, even with fans running at 100% im unable to get below 50 degrees C.

Running cinebench under 100% load im hitting 80-85 degrees.

Now, at first i thought that maybe these are just normal temps for this cpu, however my brother (who has almost the same build, just different case/mobo) and one of my friends both are around 40 degrees idle and 70-75 when under 100% load, getting the same scores..

So now im wondering: why does my cpu run that much hotter, especially in idle??

Ive already tried repasting and switching to a different cooler, none of which made any noticeable difference.

Does anyone have a idea what could be wrong? If any info is missing ill edit the post!

What are the dimensions of the asus a21 case. From my research, and a YouTube videos have mentioned the size to be 16.9” across and 18” tall. However upon visual examination, it doesn’t seem true. Idk why but it looks 18” long and 16” tall. Does anyone know what the exact length of the case is?

Build Upgrade What combo do you recommend?

Upvotes

I have an asrock b660 pro rs with an i5 12400f and an rx 6600 I started (after putting it together) to work and learn about basic rendering, right now I only use sketchup with vray but I plan to learn Twinmotion. I have researched the i7 13700k and the Ryzen 7 7700x since my budget is around $350 for the processor, $150 for the mother and $80 for ram. For graphics, I plan to sell the RX 6600 to complete, but it would be more or less around $500 maximum. Thank you, it would be a great help if you recommend something for me.

Build Help Windows on SATA or M.2 SSD

Upvotes

I'm thinking of buying a 2TB M.2 SSD, and I also have a 450GB SATA drive. Should I install Windows (and other applications) on the SATA drive and keep it separate from the games? Or is it better to have the M.2 drive and have (almost) everything there?

Another quest, same price, it is better to have 2 of 1TB or 1 of 2TB?
