Despite the community rules being pretty clear on the topic, it seems a reminder is needed that this sub has a strict "no piracy" rule. Every day there are numerous posts and even more comments that are either seeking info on how to pirate books, wanting help in making use of books they've pirated, or are people flat out encouraging others to pirate and listing off websites where they can do it. Up until now those posts have simply been deleted as they've been seen, but going forward any users found ignoring rule 4 will be banned from the Calibre sub.
Calibre is a platform that helps everyone organize their eBooks and if you want a book bad enough to read it, you should want the author who wrote it to receive compensation for the work they put into it. If you don't, then this community isn't the place for you to brazenly discuss that moral failure.
Thank you to those who wish to continue keeping this sub in good standing with Reddit and on the right side of copyright laws and basic human decency. If that's not you, feel free to head on out. Thanks.
Edit: Well it's been a lovely day of people trying to argue that piracy is fine, or that removing DRM of books you own is just as much pirating as outright stealing a book you haven't paid for, but I've wasted more time than was worthwhile trying to reply to people. At the end of it all, rule 4 stands and this post was made to serve as a reminder of it and a warning of repercussions for ignoring it. That's it. To those who had civil discourse or expressed understanding of this, thank you.

Just updated to 8.2.1, but it was doing this the day before I updated. When I start Calibre, it shows up in the task bar as if it's minimized, and it will not expand out. When I click the icon to bring it up on the desktop, nothing at all happens. I have rebooted my PC twice, force stopped Calibre, even run as an admin, and nothing works. I hate to have to totally uninstall and reinstall - is there something I'm missing?
After spending a day struggling with many books not appearing in Kobo library (Kobo Clara Color), I decided to factory reset the device and start again. The first book I tried was Musashi, by Yoshikawa; and it appeared.
Books were displayed by Author in Calibre, so I started with Achebe and got all the way to Zamyatin, uploading in lots of 20 or so. When I was finished, I realized that somewhere in the middle of Vonnegut, all the following books would not display in Kobo. I can still see them in Koreader and in file explorer. And Musashi was gone.
I changed Musashi's author name to Ayoshikawa and uploaded and it appeared in the library. I downloaded The Chronicles of Narnia, by Lewis and when uploaded it appeared. I downloaded The Book Thief, by Zusak and it would not appear in Kobo library. It is so bizarre that the author's place in the alphabet determines if it will display properly.
The device is 40% full. The only thing I can think of is that it prefers the books to be in the root of the device, not in a Books folder? This is how Calibre is configured to upload---
books/{author_sort}/{title} - {authors} The books folder is in the root.
Are there changes in configuration, or maybe a plugin needed to get them to display properly?
I have DeDRM installed, I have the Obok plugin. But I get this message:
I originally downloaded my books directly from my Kobo library on their site, but a bulk of the files weren't recognized by Calibre, so I downloaded the Desktop app, and still can't get the file to download in a readable format. This is what I get:
Used to have my Calibre Livrary on MS One Drive and that was nice as I was able to access, tag my ebooks from a pc and get access from another PC.
This would have been my perfect workflow but there are too many issues and read that it is not recommended fir Calibre.
I would like to know if there is another option to do that please ? I moved everything on my local drive but can’t access remotely anymore.
I'm trying to figure out if this is something specific with me or not. Whenever I used to have Calibre open and then connect my Kindle Voyage via USB, within 5 seconds or so it would connect to my device (and add the "Device" button on the toolbar) and show little green checkmarks next to all of the books that are currently stored on the device. Ever since updating to 8.2.1 this process has been taking between 25 and 30 seconds. Is this a known issue?
I just updated calibre to the latest version, 8.2.1, and now it's shutting down every time I have it convert books, so I have to restart it. Is this happening to anybody else? Does anyone know if it's the new update that's causing this?
just wondering if kindle/Amazon can "tell" that you have converted your books in calibre when you connect your Kindle on Amazon...I'm clueless about files and didn't know if they were marked somehow after converting...
I made a little plugin called Ask Grok that lets you ask questions about books right in Calibre using Grok’s AI. No copy-pasting metadata—just pick a book and ask away. Figured some of you might like it, so here’s the details!
A simple plugin that lets you ask questions about books directly in Calibre using Grok.
Why Use This Plugin?
With so many AI tools available, you might want to use AI to ask questions about a book directly within Calibre. However, doing this manually means you’d need to copy-paste the book’s information—like its title, author, or publisher—into an AI tool. This plugin eliminates that hassle by letting you call Grok’s AI capabilities directly in Calibre, with no copy-pasting required! Just select a book, ask your question, and get answers seamlessly.

Hi everyone. So i ended up hoarding over 20.000 of books and some are organised by author, others by genre and some others just random folders i made because I stopped organising and now it’s a mess….
Basically I need a system and i would like to have them all organised. I heard calibre helps with this but my issue is i have never used calibre and I don’t know if this following questions are even a possibility.
So basically one of the questions is: if i upload the books to calibre does it get name etc or do i need to name them one by one. I have a few books with the metadata and others are just titled the name of the book.
Then does it organise by type or do i have to do that?
If by any chance i have to do this one by one (i can’t even loool) is there any other easier way?
Seriously considering paying someone on fiver to do this for me at this point.
So I installed the plugin and for some reason it's giving me wrong numbers for pages. For instance, it will say that Wind and Truth by Sanderson has 13 pages, when in reality it has almost x100 that many...
hello! i saved some templates for myself in the built in generate cover option. i would like to delete some of the templates saved. is there any way i can do that? thank u!
I absolutely can't figure out how to get sorting to work when I side load to a kindle. For instance in my sun eater collection book 4 is firs, book 2 is second book 1 is 3rd, bokk 5 is actually in the right spot.
I have tried everything I can think of to get it to sort. Ive even deleted the sort field and put just 1, 2, 3, etc or book 1, book 2, etc. Of course that turns the field red because it doesn't match the title. So I have no idea how to get books to show up in order.
Hi everyone! Curious if anyone might have tips for full-text search in Calibre. I’m trying to find instances of time. I’ve tried searching just a colon, or a colon with # or * on either side to act as a wildcard, but it doesn’t pull any results. Is it possible?
So im trying to move some of my books to my server and i did not know that amazon's kindle will automatically remove all sideloaded books once you take it off airplane mode. That was a shock i was not ready for. I was reading that to avoid this, it would be better to send files to the kindle through email but digging deeper it seems GMX isnt a viable option anymore with accounts being banned? Since my calibre setup is installed via unraid, would it be viable to to just setup my own personal SMTP server to send files? Or is there a better way right now?
I can’t get my calibre series to sink with my kobo Libra colour. It has my Jake Brigance books all in different series & the only thing that will go correctly are books I bought off of kobo. Not the ones I put on there from calibre. I have even tried disconnecting & reconnecting like some have suggested. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.
My problem is basically in the title. The pages with text are fine but when there's an image, it shows the whole image but no caption. Only when I do ctrl+scroll does the caption appear.
Hello! I just got a Kobo Clara BW and spent the last 3 hours trying to first fix not automatically detecting device on Calibre and also can't get the series information to update. I've tried everything from searching the similar threads about this on this sub. I've managed to use the "connect/share" to pick the main folder of the Kobo as it connects as a drive on my macbook. At least I can sideload books now.
So in conclusion, am I basically limited because I can't update to a recent version of Calibre?
I'm having issues downloading large files in Calibre-web (500+ mb). I begin downloading and get "Connection reset by peer". Would appreciate any helpful feedback.

I was trying to updated my metadata to get all my sideloaded books grouped by series. I enabled automatic management in the Sending books to devices menu, and in the KoboTouchExtended plugin I ensured update metadata on the device and set series information were enabled. I plugged in the kobo.
Most of my books updated as expected and now have the series metadata, except for four, which have gone completely missing:
A book I had sideloaded from calibre a couple weeks ago, and finished reading this week.
A book I had sideloaded from calibre a couple weeks ago, and was halfway through
A book I had checked out from overdrive yesterday, partially read
A book I had purchased directly from the kobo store a couple weeks ago, opened but later manually marked as unread.
All the rest of my books are still on the device and appear to have no issues. All the remaining books were sideloaded onto the device at the same time as #1 and #2, but had not yet been opened/read on the device. So this issue only seems to have impacted books i have had activity on since first setting up the device.
I have attempted to soft reset it, and i attempted to repair my kobo account to see if the overdrive and kobo store books would return that way, but it did not work. When I attempted to re-sideload book #2 calibre said that the book already existed on the kobo. I tried to proceed with the sideload anyway, but it still isn't visible.
What is going on? Did I miss a setting? Trying to figure out if i did something wrong before i resort to factory resetting the kobo and starting from scratch on all the imports.
I've used Calibre for years, but have only just started using the fetch news functionality.
I note that for some news sources, eg. The Economist, there are a couple of apparently identical sources. I don't mean the variations like "The Economist - Search". Literally I have two sources called "The Economist", both "Created By: Kovid Goyal", with the only apparent difference between them being the icons displayed in the "Scheduled news download" dialogue. So I don't known which to use.
Does anyone know the difference between them? Is there a way to examine the details of a built-in news source to see what it does, beyond what the dialogue displays?
Usually, I use Calibre tags to organise book genres on my Kobo. However, ever since the new update, my Kobo hasn't been grouping new imports into any genres. I'm not sure what to do.
