Cat Picture - OC
Relatively new cat dad here. Is this a normal sleeping posture for kitten. She seems comfortable so I didn’t wake her up and move her.
I know cats are flexible but I am not very sure if this is a good sleeping position. 🤣🤣
I think of them as non-newtonian fluids. They're solid when they decide to stand on you that one way that somehow weighs so much, but then they just melt. Cats are basically cornstarch and water with fur and entitlement
Oddly enough, my 3 cats don't fart. They save the noxious fumes for their poops, which sends one of them screaming into the night when she leaves the cat room
When I had had my two cats for less than a month, the boy went and fell from a cabinet right down on the back support of a chair. Folded over it like a chair himself and flopped down while I had a heart attack thinking he broke his spine. The bastard just shrugged it off and kept playing with his sister, he hasnt had the braincell once in his life. Cats, especially kittens, are liquid.
I swear cats can choose to be a liquid or a solid. My 7kg boy, when escaping the grasp of the vet, is somehow liquid, and when jumping on me in the middle of the night, he is a soild.
Speaking of laundry, as a new cat dad, keep in mind with cats ( and especially kittens) they get into everything. Make it a furever habit to double check/head count kitty before starting the washer/dryer, even dishwasher, and when closing doors (closets, front or garage doors, etc.)❤️ They can want to join in the activity and you might not even realize, then accidents happen.
Edit: adding another note to learn about plants that are/aren’t safe, eg lilies are bad.
Enjoy the little one!
Many years ago I had a kitten who sneakily found his way into the fridge.
I noticed he wasn't terrorizing me for at least 5 minutes, and found him quickly, but over a decade later I have no idea how a cat got into my fridge without me seeing him.
I also have a fridge cat. Fortunately, he’s an absolute unit so it’s impossible to not notice when he climbs in there. My problem is the closet. We have a walk-in closet that we keep the dressers in so we keep the door shut so he doesn’t cause trouble. So whenever I’m putting clothes away, I have to check all the little nooks before closing the door otherwise he’ll go absolutely batshit when he realizes he’s trapped. Ask me how I know 😐
I once opened a closed cabinet to grab a glass to get some water. As soon as I opened the cabinet, my cat calmly exited and walked off. But how did she get in there? How did I not notice?
I have child resistant latches on all cabinets. My grandchildren, all in their 20's, are amused by this because they know we installed them because of this group:
Oh they’re suicidal sometimes. My girl Thirteen got stuck in the drawer under the oven, which I closed and started preheating the oven. Went about my business.
Suddenly I could hear the cat screaming the worst sound you’ve ever heard and went flying from room to room to try and find her. Thought she’d gotten IN the oven. It took me an upsetting amount of time to figure out where she was screaming from. She was no worse for wear once I located her, but I was shaking like a leaf for hours after.
I also had an indoor city apartment cat that liked to escape into the halls. When I moved to a rural area down south, he learned quickly that escaping was not the same.
Specifically, one time it was a heavy downpour outside, and I was watching TV. My spidey senses started tingling, and I had to do cat inventory (had 4 at the time.)
That dumb fuzz lump managed to escape outside, and was hiding in a bush in the rain, screaming, getting circled by a feral. He didn't get hurt, I found and rescued him, he lived a long life... he was just dumb.
My housemate’s cat does this. Twice he has managed to sneak into the fridge when I’ve had it open for a few seconds. No idea how I don’t catch him. When you find him he’ll just be curled up on a bag of spinach.
Absolutely normal! Since she's showing her belly (the most vulnerable area on a cat's body) it means that she trusts you and feels safe in her environment.
Absolutely! Like the stories of new owners being concerned that something is wrong with their kitten because they're purring all the time. One visit to the vet confirms that the kitty is just a very happy cat.
When we got our cat, my boyfriend was "the dad that didn't want a cat."
As a kitten, she was purring wicked loud on my lap and so genuinely he says "what is the noise?! why is she rumbling?!" I was in tears laughing. So now we call it rumbling lol
I absolutely love that! It's so endearing. I can't think of anything more likeable than someone being concerned about a little fuzzy creature's well being.
Well lets see. Kitten stretched to the max? check. Eyes closed? check. Paws extended? check. Seemingly broken back? check. Congratulations you got one happily weird sleeping cat. Seems like for cats its the weirder the pose the better the sleep. One of my cats only sleeps like that. She is always weirdly twisted on her back
Sometimes when they sleep you think they are broken! Just let them be comfy!😊😊 (Here's my 10 year old laying in a acrobatic posture! They will be liquid forever!🥰)
Cats have this knack of falling asleep in the most awkward positions but seem to be perfectly comfortable. My baby is a pro at this….my camera roll is full of pictures of him in awkward positions that he put himself in
You are going to see numerous bonkers sleeping positions that defy both spine logistics and gravity. Just accept it as cute, take cat tax photos and move on .
Nope only time a cat sleeps like thats is either they are super happy, content and feeling extremely safe/comfortable. Or they are possessed by a demon like mine
Congratulations on the new furry friend may you both enjoy a long and happy life together.
Cats will sleep in the strangest positions particularly kittens, I fostered mum's and kittens for 10 yrs and have seen them sleep in ways that don't look like they could possibly be comfortable. Kittens can sleep really deeply too when I 1st started fostering it scared me cuz I could pick them up they'd stay asleep and they wouldn't always wake up easily, at that point my experience with kittens was limited. They were fine the saying "sleep like a baby" really made since experiencing them sleeping so deeply.
"Didn't want to wake her" practice those words...you will be saying them a lot...for example, "my back is out because I didn't want to wake her so I hung to the edge of the bed." "Sorry, I missed your party, my cat feel asleep on my chest & I didn't want to wake her"
And so on, lol.
You are a cat Dad now!
Your cat is cool. Now the hard part of petting its stomach without it eating you. Mine lays like this all the time around the house as an invitation to pet him.
It's totally normal for cats to sleep like they were assembled wrong at the factory. I don't know how you avoided giving belly scratches though!
She's such a pretty little lady!
