Try changing the water bowl to a larger one that doesn't touch his whiskers. Either that or a fountain. He may drink more normally then.

I used to have a cat that drank like this but he ended up with urinary problems because he drank too little. Maybe buy this guy a fountain.

I mean yea cats do this usually when they can't reach the water directly. Now of course this one can unless it's got a real smol tounge

Some cats, no idea why, absolutely detest drinking water from bowls. My own outright refuses to do so.
The only time I’ve seen him physically drink water, is when I’ve left the tap running, where he then does as above - places his paw under the running water, before bringing it up to his face to lick his wet fur.

As a cat owner myself, I've noticed she's only doing this whenever the water bowl is not newly cleaned (or her brother-dog drank before her from it). Probably is the smell, or something...

My cat does this too. And she has to drink it from MY drinking glass. Lol

My Vicky did the same for the longest time. Then I got my girls a fountain. She still did that for a while but now she actually laps at it like normal.
Running water encourages cats to drink more than a still bowl.
