Medical Questions I am devastated

My sweet boy of 4 1/2 years has been diagnosed with Low-grade malignant gastric extranodal lymphoma.

I am waiting for an appointment to his vet to see his best treatment options and prognosis, but I am very afraid that I might not be able to afford his treatment, where I live tends to be not that expensive but if the previous tests are some reference I might not be able to and is braking my heart.

He is such a good and inteligent boy but most of all he is very sweet.

I am so so sad right now.

If I could give you any advice it would be this.

Love him like you did before you knew. Give him the best life you can; as he has given you the best moments of your life with him. Don’t let him see you sad.

I’m sorry for the news.

Low grade sounds like there’s a glimmer of hope. Fingers crossed that you can have a productive conversation with the vet on what next steps you can take. Give him all the love in the world l, it’ll help make you both feel better

Unfortunately, image posts can't be edited on reddit the way text posts can. Congratulations on completing level 14 on hard mode though, and sorry for the pain you are going through. 🫂

Been there. Had the money and it was still useless. I get thru it with the following statement ..  There's no better hands than in God's hands.  Im very sorry.

I'm very very sorry. They never deserve these sorts of diagnosis. But u/xUKLADx has the right idea. Do everything you can to make memories while you can. I can see how much he is loved and cared for so I know that will come easily to you. Above all else. This is not your fault in any way shape and form. Thank you for being excellent to this little one.

I'm so sorry, this is such a beautifull kitty. He is as old as my Loki was, diagnosed with irregular heart beat about a year ago, please do not waste a minute and treat him like you always do, just be with him any time you can becasue one never knows, I don't know how bad the diagnosis for your kitty is but mine has left this world just 3 weeks ago, I wasn't prepared for the sudden departure, like if anyone could prepare for it anyway but if I would do anything differently I'd spend all the time just with him ... best of luck and hope your kitty going to be alright ... ❤️

I just lost my boy of 6 years (he was 12) on Sunday and I too am devastated. I still am trying to reconcile the choice to say goodbye and not do another treatment cycle but he had a second heart failure episode only a day and a half after being released from the hospital. I didn’t want him to keep suffering for my own sake. Still, the what ifs run rampant in the back of my mind.

We will heal friend.

Vet bills are ass. Animals should be covered as people. I hope your vet will be able to provide an affordable payment plan. Please ask for it.

Vet bills are ass, but pet insurance does exist. It’s not helpful to OP at this point because they won’t cover preexisting conditions, but it’s been worth it for my cats and my friend’s cat who was also recently diagnosed with small cell lymphoma and is on chemo for it

What insurance do you have? I've never bothered because the more I've looked into it the more they seem to be as likely to try getting out of covering anything as human insurance

I have Embrace. They did a medical records review prior to coverage and refused to cover anything pre-existing, but they have covered everything else. When my cat had bladder crystals with an obstruction, they refunded $4k out of the $5k it cost me. When my cat had a cancerous skin growth, they paid for removal. Dental stuff is covered by Embrace, but not all companies. Unfortunately pet insurance doesn’t cover the upfront cost, but refunds you for expenses. They’ve been relatively fast with that though. I do pay for wellness visits out of pocket because I didn’t opt in for that.

All in all, I think I’ve probably broken even with it between both of my cats, but it’s worth it to know that if something big happens down the line, my cats are covered. I don’t have to decide how my cats get treated based on worries about medical debt.

Hmm. Do they let you know ahead of time before beginning coverage what contouring will not be covered? I've seen people say some companies will not cover if the animal has a history of being treated for something or having a symptom like a cough prior to coverage that may or may not be entirely unrelated to a diagnosis received after coverage.

I believe they did say something to that effect. My cat has asthma, so they don’t cover that. They’ve also didn’t cover a dental cleaning because my cat’s gingivitis was pre existing. I was worried they wouldn’t cover his urinary obstruction because he had a kidney injury before, but they did. My understanding is if it is a treatable condition and resolves for two years prior to coverage, it is covered. If it’s permanent, then it won’t be

As much as I loved my pets, I disagree with you. Pets should not be covered as people, aspecially when there is not sufficient health care for every citizin in a country.

Having a pet is a privilege and a luxury, therefore before getting one, people should be sure, that they'll be able to pay for any necessary expenses, i.e. proper food and health care. If they are not able to afford a pet, they shouldn't have one.

I loved all of my pets very much, but I disagree regarding covering animals as people. The health system in a lot of countries is struggling and not every person is able to get proper treatment. Adding animals to these already struggling systems, would just make it worse.

Also, having a pet is a privilege and a luxury. Anyone who wants to adopt a pet should be sure, that they'll be able to affort a pet, i.e. being able to provide proper food and health care, if they can't assure that, they better not get a pet.

With all due respect, I don’t see how pets having access to veterinary care has anything to do with medical care for people. It’s not like there are less doctors in the world because there more vets. They are entirely separate systems of care. Not everyone has the luxury of thousands of dollars on standby for unexpected vet bills, but that doesn’t mean they are irresponsible pet parents. And with so many unhoused pets, I’d rather they have homes than not.

My comment was in reply to someone else's comment, who stated "...Animals should be covered as people...". To me, that sounds as if they want animal health care and human health care to be in the same health care system, which means, that the amount of money available to treat humans would decrease.

Btw, I am well aware, that animals are treated by vets and not by human doctors. ;)

Do they have care credit where you are? Anyone gets approved for it regardless of credit I believe

1

u/SuccotashImaginary99 17h ago

Care credit cards I used for my cat. It’ll be hell to pay off, but you’ll have your baby
