Wow costs $50 per expansion, and $15 per month. They are celebrating the 20th year anniversary, so let's say you've played since lunch. That's $3600 in monthly payments, and $500 in expansions. No not everybody's going to play since the launch, but let's just take half the player base right now. About 4 million. 4,000,000 times 4,100.
That is 16 billion dollars. And that's without factoring in micro transactions that probably pull in billions more. That is an ungodly amount of money by itself. The problem with wow players is that they don't seem to care that money is all greed.
Wow just had their 20th anniversary. And all you got was a small area, with some vendors, some traveling dungeons, and a few raids in a few other odds and ends. With as much money as blizzard is taking in right now, (at $90 Mount is a joke) there should be four times the content and unique features to this game. I shouldn't have to reload the game because it bugs out everyday. Things should be intuitive. I shouldn't have to go out to third party websites to figure out why something isn't working. The UI shouldn't look like a game from the 2000s. The vanilla zones still look like they could be played on a PlayStation 2. Armor shouldn't look like painted on long johns.
I can rant about so many things, but this trend of wow players thinking they're getting their money's worth and needs to stop. And it won't stop as long as blizzards knows a huge portion of people will spend 90 bucks on mount that saves you about 5 to 20 minutes in game. There are other MMO's that don't make nearly as much money with much better systems.
So yeah... In my opinion you're wasting a lot. Because you're not getting what you deserve.
You missed the entire point of the argument man... I don't expect everyone to play 20 years strait. That's why I used 1/2 the player base as of today. The whole point is to show you how much money is made off of these cows, in contrast of very little improvement.
And I don't know what you mean. Wow is free to play up to level 20. If you want to actually play the game, it's 50 bucks for the expansion, and $15 for a sub. Even if you buy a wow token, somebody had to pay $5 more than a subscription for that with real money to be sold for you for gold. Meaning blizzard has made even more than what I suggested.
It's easy to not care because $15 a month is not much, but the reality is blizzard is using you like farm animals to support and do whatever they want. You are not getting your money's worth paying for a game that looks and acts like wow does today. Maybe 15 years ago, but not today.

Wasted? Entertainment is waste now? For the price of a movie ticket, I get to play all month. That's not wasteful at all.
