While I am here I should soapbox a little about how my personal pet peeve is the "performative ally". Someone who wants the medal, who needs to be called tolerant, but who refuses to do the work.

Someone who wants to be thought of as a nice person but who still wants to make that genocidal comment about how "there are no trans kids" or how "we shouldn't let medical professionals decide what treatment children are allowed to get, that decision is up to layman bigots".

No. If you post transphobic language then I will ban you. Even if you start your sentence with "I am an ally, but.."

Because you are worse than an open bigot.

You want the accolades.

You do not want to do the work or give the support.

To be very clear:

• Gender identity develops around the ages of three to five.

• What medical treatment a child can have is between them, their parents and the medical professionals treating them. You do not get to have a say in this.

• Despite the endless lies from team TERF, puberty blockers are safe, reversible and have less lasting side-effects than giving no treatment would have. Which is the salient criterion. You do not get to say: "Oh no, cancer treatment causes the child to lose hair and become nauseous! It should be outlawed for children!" Not your decision to make, you are neither a doctor, a psychiatrist, that child or their parent.

Transitioning saves lives. Transitioning earlier means being able to transition more successfully, which is the actual reason team TERF wants to forbid it. They do not want to see people transition successfully at all.

Trans rights are human rights.

That is something I always wondered, but never actually knew about. Puberty blockers simply BLOCK puberty, not CANCEL it, right? Which means that suspending its intake would simply allow it to happen anyways, even if at an older age - similar to what happens when cis women take steroids, or when trans men transition. It’s literally something that can be reversed. It makes no rational sense to stand against its availability in good faith.

Yes and they also use puberty blockers for young kids who start puberty too early too. They’re not just used for transitioning.

Exactly, cis kids have been using and are still using puberty blockers for literal decades now and nobody bats an eye. The same treatment given to trans kids and everyone loses their minds

That's not even "not wanting to do the work". Being accepting and kind in comments online is not work; it shouldn't really take any effort. No, the hard part, the part that takes actual effort is things like showing up to pro trans rights protests, showing up to counter-protests against Nazis, consistently voting every year up and down the ballot for candidates who support trans rights, offering your time volunteering for said candidates, calling your elected representative to advocate for trans rights, etc.

That's the hard part. If someone feels like just being nice in comments is hard for them, maybe they should do some introspection and try to figure out why that feels difficult to do, because it really shouldn't.

No. They won't do a cursory google search, they won't actually talk to minorities to ask why the comment they know we object to is objected to.

They just want the "good boy" medal. Without doing any of the work.

In a way it's worse than an actual racist/ sexist/ bigot who is just open about their hate.

god I love this, i also have an utter contempt of the people that pretend they are being reasonable but also feel the overwhelming desire to have an opinion that they know piss all about. People need to learn it is okay to just not have a damn opinion about things they are ignorant of and let the people who dedicated their lives to it and the people actually affected by it make the calls.
