Advice Request I always write tiny tooth fairy notes for my daughter, but in a sleep-induced moment of stupidity this one was just random scribbles. Disappointed that no one can read it, my daughter asked me to post "on the dad site" to see if anyone can work out what it says.

Hey hey, I happen to have impeccable handwriting thank you. People ask me to write invitations. There've been many times that I have sent stuff back to someone for not being legible though. Can't risk that sort of thing in medicine.
Anyway, part of the reason people can't read their prescriptions is because we use sig codes like: 2 tab PO QID

It’s Teamocil
There’s no ‘i’ in Teamocil, at least not where you think. So together let us make a choice and for once we’ll be in sync.
Teamocil Thought I didn’t know you well. Teamocil Now I think we really gel. Teamocil!
Teamocil may decrease your sex drive.

u/AtomicDiode 28d ago
My grandmother was a nurse and she called it shorthand. An actual way of writing that got lost and now we think of shorthand completely differently than how it was
3
u/nohopeforhomosapiens 28d ago
We use sig codes. It is different from shorthand. Shorthand is Very different, but if she was trying to explain it, I guess that would be a decent comparison.
2
u/BentGadget 28d ago
'Gregg shorthand' was one of the specific methods. You could use both words if you want to talk about literal shorthand rather than metaphorical shorthand.

The tooth of power was trying to get back to it's master, it only looks after itself, it may fall out treacherously but it's keeper never abandons it. You must take the tooth or power and you must destroy it in the slumbers of Mount Pillow, as only there can it be undone.

I read a little Fae, but a different dialect from Tooth Fairy.
I think it says something literally like:
"big flower days (?) more path crossed grinning. Your ever big(ness) has (been) grand.
More thought after: tell grey hair (masculine) eyes cobbler"
which would be something like "Celebration on moving forward smiling. You're growing up great. P.S. tell your dad to see an eye doctor"
edit: I think that u/4224aso's translation is a lot better than mine.

u/blindside-wombat68 28d ago
This brought back so many memories of translating Greek and Latin. You, sir, have made me smile.

u/eeyores_gloom1785 28d ago
my translation wouldn't go so well.
We don't let the Fae into our home, the tooth fairy collects the tooth from the front or back door.1
u/advocatus_ebrius_est Dad of 2 Girls 28d ago
I've told my children the same about the elf on the shelf. I'm not inviting any more fae into the home. I've read the stories, and I'm not about to find a black hen to roast at midnight to get them back.
I didn't know I could keep the tooth fairy out. Salt? Iron? A gentleman's agreement?
2
u/eeyores_gloom1785 28d ago
Iron does wonders.
I have a gentleman's agreement with Santa, he's more reasonable.
but also don't allow fairy houses on your property
Grandma has fairies all over her property, so my son went there for his second tooth, fairy stole the bag and tooth, no money.
It couldn't have proved me right so much lol2

Here in Spain we don't have the Tooth Fairy. Instead we have the Tooth Mouse! His name is Ratoncito Perez, which is "Perez the mouse" in English. He functions like the tooth fairy, so perhaps you could tell her that it must have come from the tooth mouse who sometimes fills in for the Tooth Fairy when she needs a vacation or wants extra help. Could be a nice way to introduce her to a similar tradition from another culture.

When I saw 7, I lost a tooth and wanted to see if the tooth fairy/santa/EB were all real so I decided I would pit it under my pillow and I wasn’t going to tell my parents. In my infinite 7 year old wisdom I thought I could DEFINITELY trust my parents’ friend whom we had had dinner with that night and was riding in the back seat with me when I lost it.
The next morning there was a tiny glass bottle with a teensy tiny note in it that said “No tricks please, just believe! -T.F.” That was it. I believed in all that shit until I was 12.

As the tooth fairy, I wrote one note that was going to spill the secrets on what is actually done with the teeth collected.
The tooth fairy secret police of wind of if, and ripped that section of the letter out.
Of course that meant the tooth fairy had to explain what had happened the next time she visited.
So the next note your daughter gets could reference secrets being redacted or similar.
Or perhaps she simply forgot to write in English, and your daughter now has a sample of the fairy language….

u/lotusinthestorm 27d ago
Knowing the fae it would be a legal document and an invitation to dinner. They suspiciously leave out what or who is for dinner.
They collect the teeth and pay with coins according to a very old treaty that has been lost to time. We are happy with this arrangement, they used to sometimes take the children.

If you can provide a regular sample of your handwriting, perhaps we can use that to figure this out. My gut instinct is to separate this into graphemes and categorize them by length-to-inferred-letter-count.

Dude, it's a poem in fairy language. A rare note indeed! This tooth fairy must think that tooth was very special to write in a language only few people have seen. It's said that the letters can't be read, but felt. Tell your daughter to hug it and ask how she feels about it.

Oh, what a magical surprise I found under your pillow tonight—a tiny, twinkling tooth as perfect as a pearl! You must have taken such good care of it. As a token of your bravery and your ever-growing sparkle, I’ve left a little something just for you. Keep smiling that beautiful smile, for each lost tooth is a sign that you’re growing into someone truly wonderful. You're much better than me. I got tired of my daughter nagging for the tooth fairy to visit that I threatened an angry fairy visit. She pressed her luck, and when she woke up, she found 2 quarters inside a capped mason jar, which I labeled "Tooth Fairy Fart Jar - Open at own risk"
It finally took her 2 weeks to drum up the courage to open the jar. She yelled "hey, it doesn't smell like farts!"

That is clearly the tooth fairies most powerful incantation, that will strengthens all oral health care items to 10x. Her toothpaste will never fail to protect from cavities.
Important to note, the incantation only works properly with the products. Unfortunately if she forgets to brush, the spell will cause cavities
