Commenting because I've been meaning to do this for about a year now. Please update us later on your success OP.

5 bucks says that all three top straps fall of in the first 15-20 mins

Impossible, I said "that ain't going anywhere" and pulled at it.
But seriously I climbed each strap, and I bore my weight without sipping, it can take my kids 40lbs.

This is amazing. I had my doubts but now I'm just taking notes and pondering how long I have to wait until my kid is ready for this.

You have to pull at it first and then say, "That ain't going anywhere." Otherwise, it doesn't work it's common sense 😅

Well, now that you climbed on it, it must have come loose from your weight. You gotta re tighten the cords and do the ain't going anywhere ritual again

The bark isn't going to have a good time either

u/faizimam 2d ago
Yes, I'm worried about the bark, the outer layer is very think, I think it won't be a risk as long as kids aren't too rough.
I will remove and retighten in a couple of months to make sure it's not too bad, I may put padding if it's not looking good

I think you're fine dude. I've had a hammock on straps for several years and the tree is fine and it's never slipped.
Only issue I see is maybe the holds might be kind of wobbly on an uneven surface.

They are absolutely wobbly, not recommended for an adult or serious use.
Kid loved it though, I'll have to space them more as it's actually not high enough for her

Especially that top one, where the trunk gets narrower as it's pulled down.

I've already learned it's not high enough, I'll push them farther up, including above the big split

Ya we’re going to need a Monday update photo of it surviving. What else can be done to secure it more to the tree? Can you screw in a brace for the strap in certain spots?

We've had a similar thing set up for a (low to the ground) zip line for a few years now. It works better than you'd think

Looks cool! Did you buy it or make it? Are they solid/don't wobble with some weight? What does it use to tighten?

I got them for my camp and they are ratchets so they get very tight. Still need a spotter though.

Got it for $50 off amazon. But nothing special.
It's standard climbing holds, along with standard ratchet straps that go though the holds around the tree.
They are a bit wobbly, but hold plenty of weight. You have to fiddle with the location to make sure they are tight, as the tree is not a perfect circle.

So I got impatient, if you go on Amazon and search Tree Climbing Straps Kids, a bunch of these sort of things will come up.

So there is nothing preventing the straps from sliding down other than the friction of them being pulled tight?
This is gonna fail, dude.

u/snorch 2d ago
I think you are severely underestimating both ratchet straps and friction lol
-3
u/atgrey24 2d ago
You are underestimating leverage and torque. The forces of a kid climbing are all going to be pulled these holds away and down.

u/snorch 2d ago
You better hurry and tell the 2000 people who left, on average, 4.6/5 reviews on amazon

u/atgrey24 2d ago
It only takes one time for your kid to break a leg. I'm not trusting this because lots of people in Amazon decided to. I've seen how dumb the average person is.

No absolutely. I plan on removing and resetting them every month or two, and will remove them in the fall.

These are great. We have slack lines and ninja obstacle courses between trees at our house. Fun outdoor play equipment for a fraction of the cost of a swing set.

My kids have this. It's been up for over a year - straps have never slipped, kids have rarely fallen, tree is holding up. They don't play with it continuously but come back to it again and again. We also have that ninja warrior course thing that straps between two trees.
