The fries are vegan. It might depend on the country. Possibility of cross contamination.

The coffee, pop, and juice are vegan. There might be some muffins and things without eggs.

No "food" though.

A long time ago McDonald's used beef tallow for their fries, but they switched over to a non-vegetarian beef extract instead, at least in the US.

In Canada and the UK, the fries are vegetarian, though I imagine there would be cross contamination from things like McNuggets if they're fried in the same oil.

Depends on the country. In Canada and the UK, the fries don't have beef flavoring. The US still has it though.

Also there are designated vegan options in McDonald’s like beyond meat in many countries outside the US. Here in the UK the fries are not fried in beef derivatives. I think this varies massively. Indian McD’s has so many veggie and vegan options for example.

Vegan here! The fries are actually cooked in animal fat, at least in the US. Burger King’s fries are vegan though :)

They have vegan options in quite a few countries around the world. It’s only the US where it’s very lacking in comparison. I know many vegans here in the UK who’ll happily eat a vegan burger at McDonald’s. They have beyond meat patties and the fries aren’t fried in beef tallow (I think this may still be true in other countries but unsure?).

They used to have a McPlant where I live and it was honestly so fucking good (to my biased tastebuds that haven't had meat in years). Less than a third of the price of your average vegan beef-style burger, and very tasty.

Maybe they'd also recently stopped selling them wherever the OP lives.

That's what I thought too. They do have some plant based patties and nuggies but aren't they fried on the same griddles and fryers as the regular stuff?

yep. they do not have separate cookware.

so a serious vegan going into a place like mcdonalds is just looking to start a fight, and deserved whatever they get.

Assuming the US: Y'all are thinking about BK, they're the ones who first went big on having (iirc) a Beyond burger, but they weren't vegetarian as they didn't keep a veg griddle for it.

McD's in the US doesn't have any veggie patties (there was one trialed, it's gone).

IIRC White Castle actually does (or is supposed to) keep a vegan grill for their vegie options, but with people being paid min wage, probably best to check if you really care.

Flashback to the time a dude ordered a veggie burger. So I gave him a big mac with the patties removed. I realized later that's probably not what he meant, but we didn't have what he meant.

Not all margarine is vegan - sometimes it contains milk/milk products. The one I use contains buttermilk powder, for example.

1 i thought it was obvious my above post was a joke. 2 the Mcdonalds website states that they use real butter. Whether or not they use butter or salt and pepper on buns depends on individual locations, though.

I'm most certainly not vegan or vegetarian, but I have a friend who's vegetarian, and I wish there were more fast food options for people like him.

I once ate a burger with a Beyond Meat patty and it was delicious, albeit I was quite stoned at the time. I feel like this should be more of a thing. Would be cool to see something done with that seaweed that's supposed to taste like bacon too.
