Is Arabic mandatory only until the 9th grade in Foreign schools of Dubai?

Post image
Upvotes

I have a cousin who's studying in a CBSE school (grade 7) and he's studying in Sharjah, where arabic is made compulsory by MOE until grade 12 and you must have 51% marks to pass in it. He is quite weak in arabic.

We were looking to transfer to a school in Dubai when we came across this.

Taken from curriculum_Requirements_for_Private_Schools_in_Dubai_Eng.pdf

So is it compulsory only until the 9th grade? Is it similar to that of Sharjah's curriculum(textbooks, passing percentage)? Is this arecent change to the curriculums.

Is the UAE a realistic place to live year round?

I’ve been to the UAE many times and know the place pretty well by now. I’m an American, and I am legitimately thinking about moving to the UAE specifically Dubai. America has so many issues ranging from economic problems, homeless, crime, etc. When I’m in the UAE, I’m always amazed at the amazing infrastructure, zero crime, and also the Islamic presence. My only concern is the summers, if it wasn’t for the scorching heat I’d have already moved there. Ideally I would want to live in Dubai from October-March and come back to the US or travel the rest of the time. But initially, I might have to stay in Dubai year-round or atleast a majority of the time. How bad is it really in the summers? Is it really that unbearable?

What a project. An eight-line bridge will be built over Dubai Creek, between the Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid Development area, 18.5 metres above the surface of Dubai.

Any one having recurring sore throat in Dubai?

Hi,

I've lived all almost all my life here in Dubai but this is the first year in which I'm having this wierd sore throat situation which doesn't seem to subside. It's the worse when I wake up in the morning and settles during the day and then creeps up just before I go to bed. And it's not just me, my kids and wife are also going through the same ordeal. This has been going on for more than a month now and no matter what antibiotics we take it, or the hot water gargles nothing seem to work and the nagging pain just remains. I'm not sure if it's the water, or the air, or just the weather conditions.

Is anyone else experiencing anything similar?

I received this from a client but I didn't notice it 2 days after. I haven't contacted the client yet but I wanted perspectives from you guys on whether the bank would accept it when I deposit it in an ATM?

The bank note in question is genuine. We checked using a note checking machine. But the plastic coating has chipped away for some reason. What do you guys think I should do?

Golden Visa Vs Work Visa - can they interfere with each other?

Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of applying for a UAE Golden Visa. At the same time, I've received a job offer from a top consulting firm in Dubai, which would involve them sponsoring a standard work visa for my relocation.

I understand that employers typically handle the work visa process for expat hires, but I'm unsure how this interacts with the Golden Visa process. Specifically, I'm wondering:

Can someone acquire a work visa whilst being in the process of acquiring a Golden Visa at the same time? If so, would it be possible to enter the UAE on the work visa, and then—if/when the Golden Visa is approved—switch over and have the employer cancel the original work visa?

I’m just concerned that the employer might see the Golden Visa process as a complication or that it could get flagged somewhere while trying to get my worker visa.

Would really appreciate any advice or insight from anyone who's been through something similar.

Thanks in advance!

Is there any legit and decent Remote jobs here in UAE?

I've been working here in Dubai for 11 years and finished my contract in October 2024. After taking a good rest since then, I've decided to start working again, this time hoping to find a remote job here in the UAE. Are there any companies or employers offering remote jobs?

Can we talk about the right hand lane on highways?

Upvotes

Lots of talk about tailgating and etiquette for using the left hand / over taking lane. But on large stretches of highway - SZR between AD and DXB - who are the people who never merge right when the road is clear?

So many cars trundling along at 115 - 120 when they could live over and let the traffic flow better.

I know trucks and buses - but people seem to just pick a lane and stay regardless of traffic speed around them

🖐 Labor Salary split in Dubai?

Upvotes

Why does my potential new employer split my salary between base, travel and housing allowance? I am used to an employer giving me one amount, but the new employer is giving me (for example), 20k, of which 10 is base and 5 and 5 is allowance for travel and housing.. why not just give 20 base?

CIPD Certificate

Upvotes

I have a friend who wants to get the CIPD level 5 HR qualification, because they don't have a university degree.

Do you have any idea what doors this will open if any here in Dubai? And how much it'll cost and the best place (online or not) to study for it?

Moving a cat from Montreal to Dubai

Hello all I will be moving to Dubai at the end of the year and would like to relocate my cat as well. I would like to know if anyone has done a similar process by themselves as the quotes I’m getting from pet relocation services are extremely high. Is there a way I can do the process on my own or should a professional pet relocation service should be used? And if you did use them what was the cost ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to apply for a recommendation letter and I wanted to ask about my qualifications if it is valid,

I am Forbes 30 under 30 alumnus, I have participated in Regional events covered by big media ( bloomberg & Forbes ) as well as My company had significant coverage by media on its own merit.

I wanted to ask, are these 3 things enough for me to apply for a Recommendation letter from the ministry of Culture?

Requesting advice for a friend stuck with travel ban due to unpaid medical bill

Hey everyone. Just requesting some advice on how to somehow get my friend out of this situation.

Friend is my barber for over 13 years. His salary is barely AED 1500 and about 4.5 years ago he was rushed to a private hospital for a heart attack. He recovered but his outstanding bills are around Aed 50k.

He apparently didn't pay heed to the hospital requests to pay as he couldn't afford to and recently got a travel ban. He has contacted some lawyers and they want 10k to handle the case whilst others want 1k to provide "advice". I've literally told him save his money because lawyers can't give him a guarantee and it's money down the drain as a result. Told him instead to speak to the hospital to find some payment plan but apparently the hospital isn't budging.

He has written to some local charities but hasn't heard back from any.

If anyone has any sound advice, please do let me know and I'll pass it on.

Thank you

🌍 Travel & Tourism How to pick up someone from Dubai DXB Terminal 3 with car without paying parking fee?

Hey guys, someone from my family will come to Dubai by an Emirates flight and arrive 9:50PM tonight.

I will pick them up with my car but to be honest I always lived alone and no one picked me up before. So I don’t know.

How to pick up someone from Dubai DXB Terminal 3 with car without paying parking fee?

  • Which road to take, which place to wait?
  • Any rules to know?
  • Maybe someone can share the best parking location.

Actually okay I can pay something but I don’t want him to walk for too long with luggages.

Can you share your experiences?

Thanks a lot.

PS: Guys for sure I can afford to pay for it for days. I got some replies assuming that I am trying to find ways from saving 5 dirhams. No, indeed this was just an unknown topic for me and I just wanted to ask to friends here. This kind of topics help people in the future as well.

Mental health insurance?

So I have health insurance from my company and it covers my regular psychiatrist visits (for medication) via reimbursement. He suggested I also start seeing a therapist but therapy here is quite expensive and I'm not sure my insurance would reimburse those. I'm wondering if there is any insurance I can buy on the side separate from my company health insurance that is specifically for mental health and will cover regular (weekly/biweekly) therapy sessions. I'd appreciate if anyone has information on this they'd like to share.

Also FYI - I'm not new to mental health, therapy or psychiatric treatment. I have been to therapy for many years with various therapists in a different country, just not here as I moved here recently. Please don't offer suggestions for treatments, lifestyle changes, etc.

Also I know there is cheap therapy available at some hospitals and clinics but I'm skeptical of just picking some random cheap therapist as I've had bad experiences and know a lot of these so-called therapists are not serious or competent. The therapist you choose can make or break your experience with therapy and I'm not interested in therapy for the sake of therapy.
