Terminology: hydro/wave/tidal

Hello everyone. I'm not an expert on renewable energies, but I'm doing a translation on this topic. In my text, water energy is divided into hydroelectric, tidal, and wave energy. I was wondering why tidal and wave are not considered hydro power as well. Apparently hydro is only run-of-river and reservoir. Is there anything I'm missing regarding terminology? Thank you

130,000 Auto Jobs Lost By 2030: Repealing The Inflation Reduction Act. Despite its many successes, Trump has pledged to gut the law. This move ignores the fact that the IRA is an industrial policy to secure America’s manufacturing leadership in the 21st century.

Looking for Energy Forums

Hi All,

A while back I put together the ChimeIn app which is an app that aggregates web forums into the mobile space. I want to add forums related around energy but don't have any good leads on active forums that have a good dialogue.

Open to any suggestions. Just can't use Reddit because of the high API costs.

How Trump’s Tariffs Could Hobble the Fastest-Growing Energy Technology. Across the country, companies have been installing giant batteries that help them use more wind and solar power. That’s about to get much harder. “Bad for business, bad for grid reliability.”

Tesla lurches as Musk hits the gas for Trump. Tesla posted a far steeper than expected decline in first-quarter deliveries Wednesday. Trump's support for Tesla may be backfiring on the electric car company. And there are signs it could get worse. Tesla is in the middle of a “crisis tornado.”

will this bring back coal and bring fossil fuels back to the front or fail spectacularly as just another tax break and false talking point.

New research estimates that the 34 largest Bitcoin mining operations in the United States consumed more electricity in 2022 than all of Los Angeles combined. 85% of the electricity came from fossil fuels and exposed 1.9 million Americans to more than 0.1  μg/m3 of additional PM2.5 pollution.

Trump's Russian oil tariff threat doesn't faze traders who suspect it's a bluff. Trump's threat to hit buyers of Russian oil with tariffs had a limited impact on oil markets on Monday. "He changes his mind, so the market is struggling to keep up. The market does not believe it any more..."

Am I making a mistake ?

Recently I stumbled across energy brokerages. I have no prior sales exp nor anything to do with energy. I want to start a brokerage serving SME businesses, I believe that a good way to do this would be to learn via trial and error rather then get a job in the industry first. After all if you want to learn business be in business right ? Anyways anyone with relevant experience to this I would greatly value your two cents.

Info about me 18 with no experience in sales nor energy. Have about 15k saved up from flipping items and supplying watches to my local town. Always had an entrepreneurial spirit & eager to bridge into business.

Making a thermoelectric generator

Hi I'm a student and I want to do something about energy as a science exploration topic. So what I came up with was to make a thermoelectric generator that eliminates the existing shortcomings. It doesn't matter if it's not efficient, so if you could give me some ideas about this, I'd really appreciate it. Please....

"There's no such thing as baseload power"

This is an intriguing argument that the concept of "baseload power," which is always brought up as an obstacle to renewables, is largely a function of the way thermal plants operate and doesn't really apply any more:

Instead of the layered metaphor of baseload, we need to think about a tapestry of generators that weaves in and out throughout days and seasons. This will not be deterministic – solar and wind cannot be ramped up at will – but a probabilistic tapestry.

The system will appear messy, with more volatility in pricing and more complexity in long-term resource planning, but the end result is lower cost, more abundant energy for everyone. Clinging to the myth of baseload will not help us get there.

It's persuasive to me but I don't have enough knowledge to see if there are problems or arguments that he has omitted. (When you don't know alot about a topic, it's easy for an argument to seem very persuasive.)

Curious if companies/financiers/etc. in the energy / climate tech space have experience submitting to speak or paying to speak at Davos and/or COP30. If so, what does the process look like?

Trump's Attempts to Bring Back Coal Will Fail. Coal costs more, pollutes more, and offers less reliability. Coal plants have been retiring in record numbers because they are old and uncompetitive. To put it lightly, coal is on the decline. And for good reason. The American people deserve better.
