Hey everyone!
I've been working on implementing some more things to help with moderation and keeping content a bit more structured here on r/femalelivingspace, but I realized that I don't think we've ever had a nice suggestion/feedback thread. Hearing directly from users will help us a lot, and it'll be great to have a headstart on things we should implement that we haven't considered before.
Here are some questions I have for you guys:
Thanks! ✌️✌️

Hello! I'm u/frequentdoodlr and I created r/femalelivingspace a long time ago under another username. I wanted an alternative space to share my home and I loved the community that our brothers over at r/malelivingspace cultivated, and wished to cultivate that too. However, I struggled with my identity and then, amongst other reasons, deleted my previous reddit account and did some self exploration. then reddit requested the subreddit and then she, along with myself and everyone else else on the mod team, worked to have the r/femalelivingspace we have today.
That background is necessary because I am Non-Binary and Queer, and I am the one who specifically wrote that women, trans women and NB people who are comfortable posting here are welcome-- no if, ands, or buts. I am a NB Femme and my intentions for this space are to be welcoming to femmes of all kinds. I am giving that background to make it understood that even the mods here comprise of trans and nonbinary identities in the femme space.
Pride Month is important for a lot of reasons-- we figure out who we are. We get a heightened lens on people who are like us. There's a spotlight on queer literature, artists, music, events and otherwise comraderie that makes those feel othered feel more at home somewhere. During Pride, people who are discovering their self love and self identity are loved and validated by people who are just like them. Our sub is no different, and I am excited to see that all kinds of women and femmes have been posting here. Identity, Gender, and Sexuality all fall on spectrums, and that's why its up to the poster to decide if they are comfortable posting here. This space is for anyone who feels comfortable being in this femme space, and that will never change.
That being said, I think we should use this opportunity to clarify some things on r/femalelivingspace
No. Women, Trans Women, Non Binary and Intersex persons who feel comfortable in our neck of the woods can post here. Our relationships with our identities are always uniquely reflected in our living spaces, and seeing how people like us decorate their homes helps with inspiration of any and all kinds.
Example: "34F In my Living Room! 25NB in my bathroom". No! You can choose to add that information in your post if you like. You can omit that information if you like. While the sub is focused on our living spaces, any additional details about you only serve to deepen the context we're given on how you approach your space, and the kind of advice given. For example, Adding in the context that you're transfemme and you're trying to make your space appear more feminine will ideally result in more nuanced advice. The context that someone is nonbinary can explain design choices. The contexts of our identities are intrinsically linked to our spaces, but posters sharing these pieces themselves is NOT an invitation for debate on the validity of OP's identity. It is simply just another piece of information about OP.
The mods have always been unanimous that behavior like that is immediately banned, permanently. That hasn't changed. However, we do not see unfortunate content like that immediately, and reporting helps us remove it as soon as we see it. To be clear: TERFs are NEVER tolerated here.
Please continue to help keep making our sub the welcoming place for our spaces it needs to be. Myself and the other moderators will do our best to try and stay on top of removing comments do not fit our community. Thanks, to everyone, for your patience.
Happy Pride!

- I made the headboard out of a mirror frame (that I cut up and rearranged), a crib mattress, secondhand fabric, dollar store gems, and scrap wood.
- The branches are made out of printer paper covered with gold tissue paper and sealed with ModPodge.
- The spiral thingies are from wind rainbow ornaments, and it took a billion layers of paint to turn them white because the original paint kept bleeding through...
- I dyed artificial white roses by dipping them in watered-down blue acrylic paint.
- The footer is made out of starry fabric and dollar store garden fences.
- It took me MONTHS to find the perfect lamp...but there it is. Same goes for the throw pillows.
- My Party Gator has been relocated to another room lol.

I would like to spruce up my bedding setup. It still looks a bit juvenile to me, so I would like to add maybe a blanket across the foot, a headboard, but not add many more pillows. Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

This room feels dark and not colorful enough. We are on a pretty tight budget and most of the furniture is hand me downs.
I love mid century modern spaces but I tend to over clutter. Help!
We own the home, I’d love to keep the wood paneling and eventually add a wood stove to cozy up the space.
Thanks so much!

I share a room with my sister and I would like for my space to be a little more cozier and personalized. I was thinking adding curtains and hanging my vinyls on the walls or a crook board but I fear it will be too much. What else can I add? or should I leave it like this? (I sadly didn’t get the side of the room with a wall) 😭

Wondering if my decor gives any insight into me as a person :)

What would you suggest to fill in the space at the end of the side table?

We live in a 3-story townhouse and our living room is on the second floor. I got the bookcases online, but I put in all the lighting myself.
We usually keep the area in front of the fireplace open to do yoga. We are thinking of getting an area rug to bring in the colors.

Hi! I’m looking for advice on:
1) the couch - I’d like a bigger couch, or at least one with a chaise section. I’m ready to invest in a nice piece, something that will last at least a decade, but I’m not sure where to look. West Elm? That’s a place that has couches, right?
2) a reading chair, same issue. The chair I have is cute but not sturdy and not great for actually sitting in.
3) how tf the use the white side table. What do I put on it? There’s no access to electricity, etc, for a lamp (or the record player, see next question). Right now it just collects piles of stuff.
4) I’d love to put my record player somewhere in here, but I’m not sure where. I acknowledge that the room is already very full of books. Any ideas?

I know my rug is too small for my space but I couldn’t resist it. First pic is this morning and second pic is the day I bought the rug nearly 2 months ago.
I intend to get a smaller rug just for the chair in the corner with the lamp, to make as a sort of reading/studying nook.
Any advice is appreciated!!

Has anyone ever put a small couch in their bedroom?
I live with and roommate and have a regular sized bedroom with a queen bed & a desk.
I have my bed and desk chair, but I want some other seating options. If I sit on my bed, I'll just fall asleep. I want something more comfy than a chair & the floor.
Advice wanted. TIA

I’m moving into my first house where I will have free reign over the space!!! I want to go for a cozy medieval vibe like a wizard’s room or something. I added a collage of the vibe I’m going for, I have the bed, floor, and rug already!
What color should I paint it, how should I lay out the furniture and how can I decorate this room as cheap as possible? I’m open to any ideas for how to make the space cozy and cute!!!
I added some photos of my room and a very rough sketch of the layout.

I need some advice on how to start decorating and making it feel more homey. The layout is pretty much fixed. I’m trying to keep it from feeling like a giant bedroom since it’s a pretty small studio. I’m looking for a tropical meets East coastal aesthetic. I live in St. Pete so a lot of colors are light yellow, pink/peach, light blue or teal.
The curtains need to be hemmed ik but I’m leaning more towards replacing them. They’re too busy but they were the only room darkening/insulated against the best ones I could find that didn’t look like giant shower curtains.
I know I need a shower rack for the entry and I need to replace her cat tree with another window shelf. The turntable I’m also getting rid of to free up some entry decor space on that cube shelf. The shelf was free so until I find something better than ikea cubes it has to stay.
Any advice is appreciated!!!

I am redecorating an upstairs guest bedroom, and am looking at different furniture placements. It’s not a large room, and I’m arranging a queen bed, nightstand, and small recliner. I’m planning to mount a TV on the wall, across from the bed. I’m open to suggestions about lighting as well. Thanks!

After a bazillion hours I have narrowed it down to these three.

Hi! We have this annoying cove thing in our living room that we currently have our tv mounted in and a playpen stored (we pull it out from under the tv when in use)
Left side is about 6inches wider then the right side and it drives me nuts 🫠
Should I do art gallery on this wall, or two bigger prices on either side and one above tv?
Might be doing a gallery wall on the opposite wall above couch ( not decided yet)
I assume two gallery walls opposite each-other would be to much.
