Hi! I’m restarting my 5 gallon Fluval Spec V for a betta, and I’m being extra cautious because I don’t want to end up with any pest snails. I originally added live plants, but I decided to remove and donate all of them—except for a few floating plants at the top that I really like and want to keep. The plants, spiderwood, and everything else were in the tank for about 18 hours total. I didn’t see any snails or eggs, but I know they can be hard to spot, and I just want to be 100% sure I’m starting clean.
I’m using new gravel, not using charcoal, and will just be running fish floss and the biological media it came with through the side filter. I know this is probably overkill, but I’m okay with that—I just want to avoid issues later.
What’s the best way to clean everything before I set it back up? Will a hot water rinse and letting the tank air dry overnight be enough? Do I need to do anything special for the spiderwood or the floaters? I don’t want to harm anything, but I also want to make sure I don’t miss anything that could lead to a pest problem later on.
I know this is probably over the top but it’s just for my peace of mind lol. Thanks.
