Portfolio/CV Review Resume Feedback Wanted

Post image

Hi here is my recent resume. I’m currently searching for both freelance jobs for the mean time as well as full time jobs in graphic design. I specifically love branding design and hope to get a job in a design agency in Chicago. I took out some of the personal info in the contact info in the right top corner as well. Any feedback in terms of design, effectiveness, etc, is much appreciated thank you.

Express-Guava-9671, please write a comment explaining the objective of this portfolio or CV, your target industry, your background or expertise, etc. This information helps people to understand the goals of your portfolio and provide valuable feedback.

Providing Useful Feedback

Express-Guava-9671 has posted their work for feedback. Here are some top tips for posting high-quality feedback.

  • Read their context comment before posting to understand what Express-Guava-9671 is trying to achieve with their portfolio or CV.

  • Be professional. No matter your thoughts on the work, respect the effort put into making it and be polite when posting.

  • Be constructive and detailed. Short, vague comments are unhelpful. Instead of just leaving your opinion on the piece, explore why you hold that opinion: what makes it good or bad? How could it be improved? Are some elements stronger than others?

  • Stay on-topic. We know that design can sometimes be political or controversial, but please keep comments focussed on the design itself, and the strengths/weaknesses thereof.

You use “assisted” four times, look up some other active verbs or different ways of phrasing 🙂

looks nice and clean!
I would remove the graphic designer blurb at the top. make your name logotype larger!

and the bolded text in the experience column should be the position, not the company. helps people scan to see how your title has changed.
You dont need to repeat your major since its written twice.

just curious why'd you'd remove the blurb? I personally dislike having one but I feel that every resume builder says it's good to have?

Change “Also, knowledged” to “Knowledgeable”.

I would consider bumping the font size up a point. I think there's actually a little too much white space.

I would have the exact start and end dates for your most recent role. Month and year should suffice.

pretty good in terms of layout. maybe move skills somewhere else or think about the order in which people will read the content

I found out the hard way that the more time you spend on your cv, the better. I used to have a similar cv and literally got no job for 5- 6 months, changed it a bit, added more info and got a job within 2 weeks of updating my cv. Here is the cv that I use now (sorry for the CIA type of redacting lol)

LE: if you can use chat gpt to give you pointers, you have 10 or so prompts on free trial of the newest gpt version, so you can upload your cv and ask for a fair opinion on how to improve it. That's what I did, and I got a job now. think that most of HR departments MIGHT use AI as well to pick the good cv, they receive 400+ applications on for jobs, so you can't really blame them for using some sort of ai. The trick is to use this to your advantage, use tags, special words that the ai could pick up. CVs are about you flexing, companies don't really care who you are as a person, but who you are as an asset for the company, so why not use all the tools you can to get that job lol. is not about lying in your cv, it's about putting your skills in the right light so you get the job

Single column to be ATS friendly and it's very empty, which shows your lack of experience. Personally if I saw this resume I would boot it just based on the typography you used in your name on the top left.

Noted… I appreciate your feedback thank you. I will consider the one column for sure and probably go that way moving forward.

Would you mind explaining why you believe the logo I have doesn’t work out of curiosity? It hasn’t been brought up by anyone until you for a while..

The S does not match the style of the other letters.
