Portfolio/CV Review Looking for Portfolio Feedback

Hello! I'm a recent graduate in graphic design and I’m looking for feedback on my portfolio. I love designing visual identities, so most of my portfolio is focused on that.

As a junior designer, I know I probably won’t jump straight into full branding projects, so I’ve also tried to include both digital and print design to demonstrate my typography and layout skills.

I’ve translated the project texts into English for this review, but I’ll be switching them back to Finnish later, since I’ll be applying for jobs in Finland. The About page is still in progress so I’ve hidden it for now.

I’d really appreciate any feedback on the projects. Thank you in advance!

artbartsy, please write a comment explaining the objective of this portfolio or CV, your target industry, your background or expertise, etc. This information helps people to understand the goals of your portfolio and provide valuable feedback.

Providing Useful Feedback

artbartsy has posted their work for feedback. Here are some top tips for posting high-quality feedback.

  • Read their context comment before posting to understand what artbartsy is trying to achieve with their portfolio or CV.

  • Be professional. No matter your thoughts on the work, respect the effort put into making it and be polite when posting.

  • Be constructive and detailed. Short, vague comments are unhelpful. Instead of just leaving your opinion on the piece, explore why you hold that opinion: what makes it good or bad? How could it be improved? Are some elements stronger than others?

  • Stay on-topic. We know that design can sometimes be political or controversial, but please keep comments focussed on the design itself, and the strengths/weaknesses thereof.

I would say your branding is pretty strong! I'd like to see a little more variety though. When I am reviewing applicants I look for branding, digital based work (such as social media, websites, etc), and print based work.

You give glimpses of your digital & print based work, but I'd want to see more. I zoomed in on your brochure design and saw that you could elevate your typesetting, (hyphen ladders, runts, etc.)

Another tip I have for showcasing branding work is printing the work and photographing it. I understand these are fake clients but you can make it more legit. An example, showing a logo on a mockup letterhead and envelope is boring. But if you printed them out, and photographed them (whether it's a studio, or you set a scene) it adds some element of validity to it.

Overall I will say, I don't think you'll have a hard time landing a job. Keep up the good work and you'll be fine.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and tips! I think I’ll create some more digital and print based work for the brand projects in my portfolio and focus more on typesetting.

You are confusing “corporate identity” with “brand identity”

A logo and color scheme is a tiny part of branding. Before you worry about your portfolio, at least understand what you are doing.
