Maybe folks in other states want to drop great danes for adoption as well.

This guy really needs help and unfortunately, the general public shies away from Great Danes.
We are asking breed enthusiasts to help Dana, age 4 male, get out of the shelter alive and then go on to a good life with decent people.
Someone called in am animal cruelty report on an injured dog on March 22.
Dana was found with his tail freshly chopped off, bleeding everywhere, underweight, weak. But he was super nice and agreeable throughout his entire medical emergency and stressful time in the shelter.
Now he has received his euthanasia notice bc the shelter is bursting at the seams from owner surrenders and strays, dumped, or found dogs no one claims.
Please DM me if you'd like to help Dana, and I will work with networker volunteers to try to secure rescue and transport.
If you are in SoCal, please consider fostering or adopting.

The big dummy (Maggie) got me in trouble last night. And I mean big dummy with nothing but love…..
Picture of big dummy attached for reference
I told the wife I would be home early but got caught up watching the Final Four and lost track of time.
When I got home all the lights were out in the house so I thought to myself “awesome I’ll just sneak around the back and go to my office and she will never know I was out late”
WRONG
The dog who is literally and figuratively scared of her own shadow decided that once I stepped foot on that back porch that it was her time to shine. I’ve never seen her light up like that before…. If I didn’t know better I would have thought she was just waiting on this opportunity for someone to roll up on her so she could save the day.
I was like “oh crap” and decided to head back out of the gate and get in my truck to hide until it all blew over…. But as I reached the gate I heard the back sliding glass open and could feel the thump of a race house running across the yard in my chest.
I thought it would be a good idea if I ducked down behind my kayak in the darkest corner of the yard so the beast wouldn’t see me. Spoiler: She saw me.
Now she’s telling on me and wanting to play… So I dip through the gate and make it back to my truck. I then see the wife come out of the front door shaking her head and saying something that I’m happy I couldn’t hear. That brings us to now. I’m sitting in my office with this wild animal (Maggie, not the wife) acting like nothing happened. She’s a snitch but she will not be treated as such.
I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. Don’t get the scaries, just live your life to the fullest!

What is your Dane’s favorite toy? Off all the toys we bought, our boy Cash loves microfiber towels more than any other toy he’s tried to play with. It’s almost like a comfort blankie. Thankfully he’s easily entertained, and I can pick up bulk packs for like 50 cents each. Jackpot!

I feel like my girl sheds a lot more than what I expected. I know they do shed fur and it’s as much as a husky but I still feel like it’s a lot more than what I initially thought. I especially think so during the beginning of winter and spring. If I brush my hand along her coat (flat hand, not scratching), almost a fur ball amount of hair will come with my hand. Every couple weeks, after scratching her, so much fur will accumulate. I think I do have to mention that she does have allergies that especially act up in March-April time so maybe it’s because her skin isn’t as strong during these times? I don’t feel like her coat is sparse though. It used to be when we were getting her allergies under control but now she has what looks like a full, shiny coat
For the past couple of winters ago, I thought she was almost double coated because she will grow these chocolate brown, thinner, wavy hairs amongst her normal straight black fur that will come out almost like tuffs of fur.
What is everyone else’s Dane’s coat like? Just wondering if it’s just us or if shedding a lot is a Great Dane thing?

6 months old and 75lbs. So far he is the sweetest boy and isn’t wasting any time getting comfortable at his forever home.

We were pretty positive she had Great Dane in her when we adopted her but had no idea how much or what else she might be! She’s the sweetest girl and we’re so excited she is indeed a Great Dane. Has anyone ever heard of this mix?

This is Matilda. A friend of mine found her in the forest and she was only 80lbs. We're accustomed to a large breed since we already have an Irish Wolfhound/ Great Pyrenees mix and we thought he could use a friend to keep him company while we're at work. It's been almost two years and now she's 120lbs and the best girl ever.

I found this to be the case, and I assume this is why they’re called the heartbreak breed…not because of a short lifespan, but because they’re like having another human in your life. I LOVE animals, and yet I’ve never loved a dog like this girl. It honestly feels like someone took a human soul and placed it within a giant dog suit. She is incredibly intelligent, patient, understanding, and communicative. Are Danes just…different?

hi! i take my puppy home next week and just had some questions. i already made an appointment with the vet to take her in the day i get her but also just wanted some feedback from some fellow owners (:
do you recommend wet or dry dog food? i want to keep my dog healthy and living as long as i can and not sure what’s necessarily best
i plan to get the gastropexy when she gets spayed but i know most vets wait for them to be more grown for that. i did get a slow feeder bowl for her, but i was curious do i have to worry about the stomach flip happening as a puppy? if so, should i be keeping her from running around and playing for a bit after eating? and for how long?
how often do you feed your dog? i have seen some people that say 2 meals a day and other that split it into 3, what is best?
should i get a no-pull harness for walks or a gentle leader?
did you crate train your dog? if so, what was the best way to approach that?
i read it’s bad to extraneously exercise them while they’re still growing so how much is considered a fair amount of exercise for growing pups?
any suggestions on how to socialize pup with other dogs and people to prevent aggression or reactiveness?
definitely don’t feel like you have to answer all of these LOL, i would just love tips or suggestions on any of these things so i’m well prepared for my pup (: thanks in advance!

So as the title says, my boyo seems to go out of his way to eat spicy stuff.
He doesn't counter surf, beg, plead, etc. For anything. I've gotten him trained enough that if I now put a steak on the floor he won't go near it for atleast 30 minutes and even then he'll just salivate and snoot boop on it until I get back to him.
This being said, chilli's, salsa, peppers, literally anything with capsicum oil in it he goes nuts for and will open the fridge to get to.
I cannot figure out why, or if it's a warning sign for something else?
He is de-wormed regularly, which I thought might be some sort of natural remedy dogs seek out when wormy, so it's definitely not that.
Pic of boyo on the right, because doggo bar was open .

My girl presents herself for petting when we're out walking. I always oblige, resulting in these moments. How lucky am I to have several of these per day??

Looking for a food that meets the following but having a hard time….
Large breed puppy Chicken free Grain inclusive (minus corn, soy)
I wish there was a matrix somewhere of puppy food that made this easy lol
Currently feeding diamond naturals large breed puppy lamb recipe and he’s doing well but poops not as solid as I’d like it to be. Not runny at all but has no structure to it.

I grew up with all sorts of dogs throughout my life, from a little dogs, labs, herding breeds, GSP, and Bernese, but I have never been around Great Danes. I’ve been wanting to get a dog for a while as it’s been lonely since my last one passed and there is a Great Dane at my local humane society up for adoption. He’s two years old but is still not house broken and when I called to ask more questions I was also told he also has some behavioral issues such as not liking men and greeting people by jumping on them. What’s it like training a Great Dane/what’s their behavior like at this age? How would I prepare my house for possible destruction/make it safe?

She has a line on her lower stomach right above her vagina. That looks like it’s acne or a rash. I don’t know if it’s normal or if I should take her to a vet. Had this happened to any of your Danes?

Here’s Miss Pearl’s latest video lol. She really loves taking a shower. She literally will go and sit in the shower waiting for someone to turn the water on. It’s on TikTok for anyone that wants to view it there. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2EGUSYU/

I am 32 weeks pregnant and I also have an almost 11 month old absolute wild child of a Great Dane. Overall he is a good ish boy. Rambunctious AF, a bit reactive to other dogs but we are working on it with a trainer and managing it well especially now that we are in a suburban neighborhood, stays generally calm when just my husband and me. I just have no idea what to expect him to be like once baby girl arrives! What is your experience?
I would post this in a pregnancy page but alas there is only a small subset of people who understand what it is to have a 150 lb puppy

Hi guys, Percy is my rescue Dane and we have no idea how old he is, he acts like a puppy and has so much energy but he’s starting to get gray hair. It’s kind of worrying me because like I said, we have no idea how old he is and we’ve only had him for 2 years, so I’m wondering if it’s common for these fellas to gray earlier? Or maybe he’s just energetic for a senior.

Rocky our DoberDane mix! We rescued him in January. He came with a UTI, kennel cough and was grossly underweight. 3 months later and he is soooooo loved, the best dog EVER, ~ 10 lbs heavier and is looking better 🩶!! ☺️
