Question How do YOU enjoy heroes3 the most?

Hi all, what kind of gameplay do you like the most? Do you play campaigns, or specific maps? Singleplayer or multiplayer? Do you randomly choose maps or only popular ones? Do you replay a number of maps over and over, or do you always find a new map to play? What are you favourite criteria for choosing maps (size, objective...)? What about towns, always the same, or random? Difficulty?
I am asking because I played for the first time 2 years ago I think, and I started campaigns. Then I lost my progress due to some bug and never continued, and play other games instead, but the charm of this one still holds me. So I'm interested in your playstyles.

Single player, and most of the time a custom map that I downloaded from the Internet. There are so many good map makers out there. Some of the larger maps will keep you engaged for weeks!

But the most fun I have with the game is running games with friends over discord, where we are on a team against the computers. (I edit the map specs in editor to make us on a team, and then all the computers on a team against us. Hota (horn of the abyss mod) also allows you to run “simultaneous turns” for multiplayer games, which is a godsend.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been having a blast with some long time friends playing a fantastic custom map that is very challenging. We’re in the later part of the game now, where everything is crazy and there are insanely powerful enemies everywhere. So every time we meet up in discord for a game session, we are having strategic discussions about enemy movement, places we should explore on the map, quest guards, etc. It feels like we are military generals discussing our war strategies lmao

I’ll make a post tomorrow if I have time of a collection of maps. But yea that’s a good site! There’s at least two other main ones I’ve used over the years as well
