Weird thing of the day: football shoulders?

Post image

I’m sure he’s probably not actually wearing a full set of football shoulders it’s probably just that lower back piece but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that being done before. Idk if Rule 305 Dangerous Equipment could be argued on that.

FT7 PRO - I loved my ft7 pro for about 3 months... Amazing stick but honestly after only 3h of hockey a week for 3 months, the helicoid blade exploded... Not worth it unless you play pro or have the budget for several ft7s a year 😅

Practice

Upvotes

So I’ve (23m) skated for about a year now on and off and have been going to scrimmages and a couple stick and pucks. But what could I do to get better or feel more confident on the ice? Passing and receiving seems good but I know my positioning and shooting could use some work. Any suggestions?

Beginner help

Upvotes

I am 33 and have never skated before in my life. I started taking lessons at the rink but I would like to eventually play hockey. Does that seem too far fetched with my age and lack of experience? Im looking for any and all tips for beginners. I was advised to buy skates instead of using the rentals and so I did. I couldnt find used ones in my small town for my size so i bought new ones and theyre pretty stiff. I've already fallen on my ass and bruised my tailbone after my first lesson but I'm not sure if I should just jump in and drop all that money on hockey gear while I'm still learning how to skate. I guess I'm just looking for advice and wondering if it's a realistic goal for me to have to want to play with having zero experience.

Beer League Schedules

Our rink has 3 seasons a year. Jan - April, May - Aug, Sept - Dec.. However, the last two seasons we don’t have the full schedule release until atleast a month into the season. The rink wants everyone paid in full before game 1. Is this a common occurrence in other places? I can understand youth tournaments, events, etc. causing schedule hiccups, and I’m not worried about game times in this, but these guys are expecting payment and still flying by the seat of their pants.

Just wanted some input if you all get entire season schedules before payment is due or if you’re in a similar boat of paying and playing into the unkown.

Question - Roster Eligibility

Upvotes

Does anyone know if USAH has any rules about dual rostering on a Tier 1 coed team and a Tier 2 girls team that is competing in Tier 2 coed leagues?

If it matters, the age group is 12U.

Thanks!

I'm 16 years old and I started ice skating around 5. I had the chance to join hockey school at that age, but i denied. Now I really want to start learning hockey and improve my skating and hopefully join a team.

So basically I'm 16 now and ive got into hockey at the end of the season. i started skating around 5 years old maybe? I didnt really like ice back then. now for the last two seasons i played hockey on lakes. at least tried to play it, it was just to kill time and i didnt really enjoy it that much. well things changed and now im trying to self train myself on public ice. just watching yt videos about skating (since my skating isnt perfect yet). i just need tips on how to improve and if theres a chance for me to join a team this late or join a hockey school for late kids or something. If there is a chance for me to join a local hockey team for me and play with them, go on some matches. Just to have a great time and friends. please i would like you tips.

Anybody do balance training with one of these things?

https://blackboard-training.com/en/product/blackboard-basic/

I picked a knockoff up and have been using it. I'm looking for ideas on how to strengthen my lower leg specifically and balance.

If you do use it what configurations do you find help the most? If you do other training, what do you find helps?

2 minute penalty for tripping the ref

The other day in my lower level beer league game one of our players accidentally tripped the ref with his skate while turning. The ref fell down got angry and called a 2 minute tripping penalty on him. Any refs out there care to weigh in? (It's playoffs and he also called a penalty because our guy handed our goalie his stick back when he dropped it)

Why is the heel of my blade always chipping

I’m sure it’s technique based, but I don’t have video of my shot for y’all. Been playing my whole life so I’d like to think I know what I’m doing on the ice. I read it could be a lie issue. I’m 5’5 155lbs (doubt this matters) my stick is up to my nose off skates, on skates at about my Adam’s Apple. Using a 65 flex P28. I’ve been taping over this crack for last few months. I put a small bit of extra tape along the bottom to protect this weak spot.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Is this sharpening bad?

I got the sharpening done at Canadian Tire since I needed them asap. I’m new to skating so I didn’t question anything, but it looks off to me.

Can anyone tell me if it’s okay?

If not, is it fixable?

Where do you find eyelet replacements for Bauer skates

My eyelets broke after about half a year of use. Only the silver eyelets (the top 2 per side) seem to have had this problem. Where and how do you find a replacement? I guess standard cobblers eyelets wont do the trick since the cross section it needs to go trough is about .5"

What would it take for swift hockey to be one of the biggest in the industry?

Upvotes

Hey all — I’m Zechariah Thomas, Founder & CEO of Swift Hockey. We’re an up-and-coming stick brand trying to change the game — literally. Our mission is to make hockey more affordable and accessible while building a company that feels like a movement, not just another brand.

In just the past 1.5 years, we’ve grown to over 100K followers across all socials, making us the fastest-growing hockey brand in the world. I started Swift by acquiring a failing hockey company’s page with only 1,000 followers — and we’ve built from there. We’ve been featured in NHL articles, the New York Times, Dragons’ Den, and more.

For our last two sticks, we put in over a full year and $50,000+ in R&D. And we’re still trying to make them better. Because that’s what players deserve.

But this is bigger than just sticks. We want Swift to be a movement. And that means I want input from everyone — players, fans, even our biggest haters.

If you could help shape Swift into something truly game-changing… What would you want to see from us? • Gear? • Culture? • Sponsorships? • Community events? • Pricing? • Loyalty programs? • Memes? • Anything?

I’m here, I’m listening, and this is just real talk. Let’s build the future of hockey — together.

Skates bottoming out occasionally

I started skating again couple months ago. I have Bauer vapor x60s from 2015. The boot is in great condition. The runners have half an inch of steel. I don’t remember at the time if they were close to that but I skated 2-3 times a week with monthly sharpenings. I’m between buying new skates but won’t be too upset if I upgrade the runners. Also slightly worried to switch to these new skates with the taller runners nowadays.

XF toe cap feels much shorter than JetSpeed FT680 – hammer toes hitting the front? worth going 8.5 or switching to FT6 Pro? (Comparison + pics)

Hi all! I just received my new Tacks XF skates (size 8 Wide), and while the overall shape felt solid on first try (without baking or lacing), I ran into something unexpected: When comparing them to my old JetSpeed FT680 Wide (also size 8), the toe cap on the XF feels noticeably shorter and lower. I have mild hammer toes, and with the XFs, my toes feel like they're hitting both the top and front of the toe cap – something that never happened with the FT680s.

To further investigate, I inserted my Orthomove insole (which fits perfectly flat inside the FT680s), and in the XFs it bends upward at the front – meaning the toe box ends earlier or is lower in volume. The toe cap difference is also visually obvious (photos attached).

Now I'm wondering: • Has anyone else experienced this with the new Tacks XF? • Would the FT6 Pro Wide be a better choice for someone with hammer toes? • How does the FT6 Pro toe cap compare to XF and FT680 in length and height?

My foot measurements: • Length: 271 mm • Width: ~115 mm • Instep (circumference from ground over the arch): ~260 mm → I'd say my foot volume is medium-high, but not extreme.

Funny thing is, I was almost going to buy the Tacks 652 Retro, which I believe uses the older style toe cap (same as FT680?). That might've actually been a better fit after all. Any advice or experience comparing these toe caps is appreciated. I might have a chance to get FT6 Pro Wide (size 8) for the same price as my XF’s, so I’d like to make the right choice. Thanks!

Bauer Vapor X5 Pro ($709) vs Bauer Supreme Mach ($687) vs Bauer Pro Stock Vapor Hyperlite ($595)

Supposing they all fit and feel good, is one of these considered a superior skate? The Vapor X5's are full price whereas the the Mach's and Hyperlite's are on clearance. Thank you!
