PSA Have a look here before posting your ID request if you live in the Northern hemisphere and found small beetle-looking insects with this mottled black/white/brown appearance

Bug Appreciation! I found a dead paper wasp and decided to give it a quiet burial.

I’m pretty sure it was a paper wasp. I found it lying still on the ground, wings folded, and it looked so fragile up close. I don’t know why, but I felt like it deserved a peaceful end. So I buried it gently in a pot. Just a small gesture, but it felt meaningful.

Seen in Costa Rica, close to Piedras Blancas national park in the south of the country.

Seen them a while ago, summer 2016 to be exact. Have never found out what they are and would really like to know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been fascinated by these little guys and their eye catching yet destructive means of survival for as long as I could remember, but I’ve never ever actually seen one with my own eyes before. Behold - one teeny tiny worm!!

Promptly throwing away this basil, sadly…

Found this cutie upside down, after putting it the rightside up it went on its merry Oryctes nasicornis (i believe, correct me if iam wrong) way. Found in Girardot Colombia, maybe a fun thing to know in Dutch you call this type of beetle a neushoornkever.

ID Request What did I uncover yesterday?

I know nothing about insects, but I accidentally uncovered this beautiful/terrifying behemoth yesterday. I was messing with a rotting log and a load of bark slipped away and it was just sitting underneath wiggling a little. My friend and I didnt want to agitate it and get attacked so left it alone (he took the picture, I legged it), but am also hoping that uncovering it didnt kill it because it was right before sunset and starting to get quite cold. It was about the size of my thumb, maybe slightly bigger if that helps. Googling it looks like a queen wasp to me, but my friend thinks its a hornet or a hoverfly (the former im not so sure, but im certain its not the latter!). Thanks in advance!

Question Is this a friend ?

Hello everyone I was curious if anyone knows what this little friend could be ? For context I was out in the backyard helping my girl to organize her garden beds so we were digging up all the soil. When I took a break I found this friend crawling/climbing up my pants in a funny manner. Btw I live in Tennessee USA if that helps

Hey, so this might seem silly for a group that does a lot of real bug identifications- but what do y'all think this bug is?

I got this fan today at the oddities and curiosities expo (artist is awinthrop_art on Instagram). I absolutely love the musical bug theme and soft, cute artstyle. What's bugging me (pun intended) is that the other three bugs are so clear as to what they are, and then I have no idea about the other one (from left to right: a click beetle, a cricket, ??? , and a cicada).

My best guess was a rove beetle given its very bendy abdomen and general shape, but the very end has that weird disk-like bit on it? And to my knowledge rove beetlea don't make any noise in the same way the others do, so that can't be it since then it wouldn't match the theme...

I would appreciate any guesses cause I'm absolutely stumped at this point. Thanks!

Question I destroyed a spider web🤦

Hey everyone, i may sound stupid for this but, here it goes. Well, in my house's window, there's a spider web, which is good cuz a lot of insects try to enter from there. Today, i saw a fly which was trapped om the spider web and i was feeling very bad for the fly which was trying to escape (poorly) so i decided, trying to help the fly to escape by passing a stick near the fly but i ended up fucking up the spider's web and the poor fly ended trapped even more..🥺 The spider escaped but it's near at least for now, des anyone know if the spider will return? I genuinely feel bad for both.. (I know this was super stupid and im so sorry for it).
