Here I am struggling to put on muscle after years of consistently going to the gym and eating right.

Then there are kangaroos...

Dude, just jump everywhere you go. Get those fast twitch muscles going

159

u/Sargentrock 17d ago

The one that's flexing pretty clearly lifts, though. Other kangaroos, probably, but he's definitely showing off those pecs and guns.

u/trimble197 17d ago

Kangaroo: Do you even lift, mate?

10

u/Own_Donut_2117 17d ago

he was flat out showing off, lololol.

That was my favorite one, and the little derp slip

3

u/thatstwatshesays 16d ago

The one flexing, they call him doucharoo

30

u/melanthius 17d ago

Counterstrike players will tell themselves: you know what, I will actually jump everywhere.

12

u/Rowcan 17d ago

Jumping around with knife in hand, because everybody knows you run faster with a knife.

You know it!

u/2cmZucchini 17d ago

Bunny hopping since 1.0

2

u/NovaWildstar 16d ago

This made me choke on my coffee this morning. Love it.

1

u/internet_humor 17d ago

They NEVER skip leg day

1

u/onlyhav 17d ago

Can confirm. As a kid I thought it'd be cool to tie a belt around my legs and hop everywhere in my free time to make me jump higher in sports. My thighs were YOKED as a 10 year old.

If you wanna put on some muscle bulk, you dont need to eat "right" necessarily, but eat a lot more. Like 3 times as much as you eat now. Also doing more static workouts focusing on specific muscle groups

23

u/Gefilte_F1sh 17d ago

/u/ItAffectionate4481 if you are serious - don't listen to this; this is terrible advice.

3 times what they eat now is a good way to just end up fat; any increased muscle mass not withstanding. 500+ calorie surplus for muscle gain.

Static workouts? Muscle growth is most efficiently triggered by the muscle being stretched while under load/tension and via progressive overload. Static workouts do neither of those things. Compound movements at full range of motion is the answer.

u/VegaDelalyre 17d ago edited 17d ago

What if I'm not hungry any more, after my "right" portion? I already eat 4 times a day, too.

Edit: wow, thanks kangaroo enthusiasts for your advice on dietetics. I'll try some of your suggestions, and maybe I'll look more like those ripped 'garoos soon.

u/HerezahTip 17d ago

You eat like it’s a job, not because you’re hungry. It’s fuel to make more muscle.

0

u/robyculous_v2 17d ago

What if Im trying to cut?

7

u/BagNo5695 17d ago

if you're trying to cut then you watch your calories and eat enough protein for you bodyweight, but you can't cut and maximize your muscle gaining at the same time, it's not physically possible

1

u/robyculous_v2 17d ago

No not trying to gain muscle mass. I got a form but want to cut like 30 - 50 lbs in 12 months or longer.

0

u/valkaress 17d ago

but you can't cut and maximize your muscle gaining at the same time

My cousin was obese or at least borderline. He's been on a diet for a year and a half and he has an obscene amount of muscle now. I'm sure a lot of it was already hiding in there, because he used to deliver kegs of beer for a living, but he also claims his (lifting) numbers have gone way up since he started. So unfair. Kid must be running around with 1000 testosterone. When I did that for a year I came out looking like I never lifted. But at least I lost all that weight, which is nice.

1

u/Inlacou 17d ago

Either you cut, or you build muscle.

Eat a lot and gain muscle and a some fat. Then cut. Cutting step aims to maintain as much muscle while you lose fat.

1

u/robyculous_v2 17d ago

Thanks for the advice. I got a decent defined muscles on my body, just looking to cut added fat to get more defined.

1

u/boyifudontget 17d ago

If you've never hit the gym before you honestly can cut and gain muscle for like 6 months to a year in some cases. Sweet newbie gains.

u/MarcOfAllJacks 17d ago

What helped me are protein shakes that taste good. Those give you some of the nutritional value needed without having to consume much.

3

u/zhokar85 17d ago

That would probably be my main advice for anyone starting out. Before you figure out your sets, figure out your food. You don't have to make it even harder on yourself with unseasoned rice, chicken and broccoli. There's a reason Alcatraz served good meals.

1

u/MarcOfAllJacks 17d ago

Yup! With a little effort, you can find foods you like that provide the nutritional benefits needed.

1

u/Drink-my-koolaid 17d ago

What kind do you drink? All the ones I've tasted are repulsive.

3

u/MarcOfAllJacks 17d ago edited 17d ago

Levels Grass Fed Whey Protein. Double chocolate is delish to me lol

11

u/EremosV 17d ago

Eat without being hungry, it's not that hard.

9

u/Any-Comparison-2916 17d ago

In my experience eating more is a lot harder than eating less, but I have always struggled to gain weight, so maybe it's genetics.

5

u/Gefilte_F1sh 17d ago

Drink your calories if you're having trouble eating them.

u/Any-Comparison-2916 17d ago

Damn, that sounds horrible. It really isn't bad for me at all, I can eat everything and a lot, it just seems like I need a lot more to actually gain weight. I'm quite tall, like 6'3 or something (not good in american heights) which might contribute to that.

Hope you can handle your disorder man, it really doesn't sound fun. Thankfully I'm certain that's not what I am struggling with.

1

u/ddraig-au 17d ago

I'm 180 cm (exactly 6 foot tall) and weighed 55kg from 15 until about 40 (my Dad was the same), when I suddenly put on about a third of my body weight as muscle. Which was very disconcerting. I'm a guy, btw.

So, yeah, it's probably genetics, and if you're lucky that might change when you get older. Maybe. I was put on special diets, etc, I could never put on weight.

2

u/BlackBlizzNerd 17d ago

Smoke. Profit.

Jk. Kinda.

But seriously. I only eat twice a day but went from 145lbs to 195lbs by going from 1,200 calories a day to a little over 3,000 with intermittent fasting the first part of the day. If you really somehow can’t get in that much or more, look up the supplement Serious Mass. when I was smaller I needed to use a gainer to help put on weight cause my tiny ass self could barely keep down a couple meals. But the bigger you get the easier it becomes.

2

u/Any-Comparison-2916 17d ago

Eat more often. I feel like eaten less but more often (always) works better than eating huge meals sparely.

2

u/cjsv7657 17d ago

Mixed nuts or just nuts in general. So calorie dense. A small palmful is like 200 calories with my sized hands. Generally around ~170 calories/ounce.

For some reason almonds in particular make me want to drink water. So if I know I need to drink more water but I'm not thirsty a few almonds and I can drink a bunch without feeling like I'm forcing it down.

2

u/Uitklapstoel 17d ago

Weight gainer shakes! Some add 1000-1500 kcal a shake. Drink one daily after dinner. It's not fun but it works.

2

u/VegaDelalyre 17d ago

I assume they should go with physical activity, otherwise I'll just build fat or let those nutrients loose?

2

u/SllortEvac 17d ago

If you’re doing the work to build the muscle, you will be hungry lol

1

u/kajdelas 17d ago

You literally get tired of eating type of eating

1

u/YeastGohan 17d ago

Smoke a joint.

3

u/ThatJamesGuy36 17d ago

Lol 3 time as much 😂

3

u/ReptAIien 17d ago

What you actually need to do is eat more protein. Calories are important but not as essential as protein.

2

u/InviolableAnimal 17d ago

where did static workouts come from

2

u/Dovahkiinthesardine 17d ago

Suggesting to triple caloric intake for muscle gain is wild lol

1

u/pocketdare 17d ago

Do you recommend pints of premium ice cream or something else?

1

u/zbunta 16d ago

OP if you're already super lean with little body fat just do 150g protein, 75g fat, 450g carbs per day. Yes, measure everything and carbs are just important for recovery and muscle growth than protein. Depending on your current weight and height, you should put on roughly 0.2kg of muscle a week if you're working out properly.

1

u/Shokoyo 16d ago

3 times as much is way too much if you aren’t deciding to go on steroids.

2

u/curiousiah 17d ago

You ever see those kids with the gene for myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy? Myostatin limits muscle growth, but these people (and some animals) don't have the gene for it or it's blocked and they just start building excessive muscle.

There's gotta be a health cost, but it's hard not to be jealous...

1

u/jackattack222 17d ago

If you only eat grass and bugs(idk what kangaroos actually eat) and jump everywhere and kick shit you'll look like this in no time!

1

u/world_of_wonders420 17d ago

Easy fit...find you a dick and do alot of bouncing around .. simple

1

u/mortalcoil1 17d ago

Cows are ripped as fuck off of nothing but grass.

1

u/realdude2530 17d ago

They probably claim natty too

1

u/goodsnpr 17d ago

Sleep is the thing killing my body. Are you putting yourself in a caloric surplus?

1

u/Lasgoo00 17d ago

Oh boy.... wait till you discover those crazy things called Gorillas

1

u/lowrads 17d ago

They don't compromise for the dexterity of fine muscle control.

1

u/Cyber_Blue2 17d ago

Eat more Calories and Protein!

1

u/doc_death 17d ago

Kangaroos have one strong third leg

1

u/OwnBad9736 17d ago

Are you using your tail as much?

1

u/cobigguy 17d ago

You aren't doing bear crawls all day everyday either...

1

u/SoulofArtoria 17d ago

Start working out in kangaroo suits. Confuse your muscles, that's how it grows.

1

u/dexmonic 17d ago

Our muscle growth is genetically limited because we didn't need to be super buff when we were wild. Other mammals, like gorillas and kangaroos, don't have such limited muscle growth and despite eating vegetarian diets they have huge muscles.

1

u/Ok-Biscotti-4311 16d ago

Just hop everywhere you go. Core stabilizer is clutch.

1

u/Milo_Maximus 16d ago

Somewhat ironically, eat roo!

Lean protein.

1

u/TomThanosBrady 17d ago

Low rep, max weight and eat protein rich food. Take creatine too. It enhances the recovery process. But fair warning, creatine will ruin cardiovascular endurance.

1

u/ProbablyYourITGuy 17d ago

Creatine will have very very little effect on your cardio, besides probably making it a little better. You'll hold a little more water than normal which may effect some people, but likely not enough to really notice while running.

1

u/TomThanosBrady 16d ago

I took creatine while in the Army. I went from maxing my run times to barely passing. Gained considerable amount of muscle though.

0

u/ProbablyYourITGuy 16d ago edited 16d ago

That’s interesting, but creatine wasn’t the cause of that.

I also took creatine while maxing my 2 and 5 mile run in the army. I continued to max my run.

Lol blocked because he’s mad he can’t blame his terrible cardio on his supplements.

1

u/TomThanosBrady 16d ago

Maybe it was the working out 3 times a day that ruined my cardio. Not the creatine and muscle gain. I think you're full of shit.

0

u/ProbablyYourITGuy 16d ago

That’s cool. I loved laughing at the guys who had a million excuses for why their cardio sucked.

1

u/TomThanosBrady 16d ago

Take your stolen valor elsewhere.

1

u/Bbonline1234 17d ago

Creatine made me super tired!!

I had to stop because it was making more tired than I already am, dealing with long covid fatigue(from vaccine itself)

I can’t say noticed much change in overall muscle building while I was on it for months

Was waiting for the water comment since I forgot to right that I drink about a gallon of water a day lol.

Usually when people are taking these kinds of supplements, they usually know about the “requirements” to get the best results because in that sphere of conversation, someone has mentioned besides the supplement, what else is needed

Also, I didn’t say it doesn’t work overall, but for some people it doesn’t, I’m one of those people.

I took it for almost an entire year, saw no change
