Fun fact: Kangaroos are excellent swimmers and will purposely lure predators into deep water to drown them.

Yup, they can and will hold your dog underwater, or you, if followed into the lake. They are not running away. They are waiting for you.

That sounds like the plot to a horror movie 😨!

To be fair, its also horrifying from the kangaroo's perspective.

Imagine a rabid beast, so terrifying fear of it is ingrained in your dna, is chasing after you. You run into the water praying it won't follow but to your horror it just swims after you. It catches up to you with ease and now you're trapped desperately trying to shove its head underwater to drown it while knowing there are a dozen ways you could die. If it shoves you back into deep water, your heavy tail will pull you down, if it drags you forward the water will be shallow enough for it to bite your neck off. Even in the perfect spot there's still a good chance it just claws your face off and feasts on your flesh.

Good news is that you really have to be going out of your way to be drowned by a kangaroo. Like first you have to pick a fight with it, fall for it's false retreat, and then GO INTO the body of water it's waiting in.
