I don't think someone in my tax bracket is even supposed to see this

Why do you have to be so real with this statement

I think people that aren’t in the top 1% of US income probably aren’t going to be able to afford this. And I define afford as in play with it a few times, then ignore / not do proper maintenance / never take it out of storage again.

And top 1% US income is 800k+.

You can rent one for 15mins for about $100 USD if you happen to be in Queenstown, New Zealand. I assume that's were this video is from judging by the mountains in the video. I almost did while I was there but it does sound like it looks like way more fun than it is. https://www.hydroattack.co.nz

167

u/Onphone_irl 11d ago

I've done this- you don't rent it, you pay for a ride as it's a 2 seater. you sit in back. it's too complicated for them to teach you how to drive it.

still an incredible deal. I think ft Lauderdale you can do 20mins for like $500 or something

76

u/chrisxls 10d ago

I am not surprised the amateurs don't drive. It looks like it is very easy to drive faster than you have visibility for your stopping/turning distance. Be pretty easy to approach that shore at full speed and when you realized what the shadow was, it would be too late not to hit it.

25

u/zaxnyd 10d ago

I was puckered when he went under because visibility was so questionable. Maybe it's just the video quality but if the water gets murky and you hit a rock... it's gonna be a bad time.

Plus, you have to come up, and nobody can see you or expects this shit. Chances of you smashing into the side of a boat is high if there is a lot of traffic.

Needs controlled environments and experience.

Being extremely rich seems like it's a lot of fun. Oh well back to my trade job cleaning shit out of pipes. I need to work hard and pay my taxes so Elon Musk can use his tax breaks to buy more Ketamine.

266

u/cyvaquero 11d ago

Think about the fact that he is one of if not the richest person on the planet at any given moment. What does he do with his time? Not cruise around on a yacht, not work toward eradicating maleria, not even just living a low-key life in a non-descript home in the plains states and drive a non-descript car.

No, he spends his time dunking on people who at most make 0.000179% of his wealth and convincing half the nation this somehow benefits them.

37

u/visionsofcry 10d ago

Can you imagine being the richest person in the world and nobody likes you? Like nobody truly likes you. Rich or poor nobody genuinely likes him. They like his money.

Additionally, imagine being the richest man in the world and nobody truly loves you. His own kids can't fucking stand him. There isn't a soul on this planet who genuinely loves and prays for this guy. His parents are narcissists who are incapable of love. His exes loathe him. His kids dont adore their father. The guy has fucking nobody and he will die like that. Imagine knowing you'll die as lonely as you lived.

For all his money I'd rather have the love of my wife and parents. I don't care if I'm broke. I've been lonely before whilst having money in the bank. I'd never fucking with abject loneliness on anybody but that's where Elon is.

The world's loneliest man. It's sad to see.

11

u/GenDislike 10d ago

That’s why he is actively purchasing adoration. Must be nice to afford enough appreciation to help you forget no woman can stand you, and your own children disown you. I’d be crippled if my personality made so many millions of people on earth practically vomit, but in for a penny in for a pound, this’ll get much more interesting.

the primary reason the republican party exists is to cut taxes for billionaires. if you are a billionaire, by far the best investment you can make is towards the republican party.

investing in democrats is still a good return, less so about cutting taxes but more about making sure the government spends money towards your products.

How does it get air for combustion? Does it have an oxygen tank or is it electric?

625

u/bash_M0nk3y 11d ago

I had to scroll way too far to find if someone else was wondering this too. It sure sounded like a combustion engine to me.

514

u/Nadran_Erbam 11d ago

Yes, there is an air intake, and they say it cannot dive too deep because of it: https://seabreacher.com/frequently-asked-questions/#1511998317871-af6038d0-72dc

323

u/TechnicalyNotRobot 11d ago

So if I accidentally dive too deep my engine just dies?

390

u/bt123456789 11d ago edited 10d ago

pretty much yeah. you would realistically have a few seconds to get back up but otherwise you're dead in the water (pun slightly intended).

I'm assuming it has some sort of way to get up in case of engine failure, the ballast that lets you dive probably requires power. no power, up you go.

Edit: because people keep stating, once you stop accelerating it comes back up, it has to be at speed to dive.

171

u/NotAlwaysGifs 10d ago

My understanding is that they're super buoyant naturally, and they rely on the downward force of the water itself traveling over the fins at high speed to submerge.

128

u/Nadran_Erbam 10d ago

From the videos it actually seems pretty hard to dive, like pushing an air balloon into the water.

72

u/bt123456789 10d ago

so yeah in case of engine failure you pop right back up, which is the only safe thing this craft seems to have.

→ More replies (10)
→ More replies (2)

20

u/flight_recorder 10d ago

It’s probably inherently positively buoyant but the control surfaces shove it underwater at speed. Therefore if it dies, it’ll just pop up to the surface

10

u/bt123456789 10d ago

yeah someone else suggested that possibility too, that it basically requires constant propulsion to dive.

→ More replies (9)

There's a snorkel on top of the fin. The whole thing looks like a mechanical shark or porpoise.

https://seabreacher.com/gallery/photos/

85

u/ElKaBongX 11d ago

That website is B.A.D.

15

u/Cr4nkY4nk3r 11d ago

Yeah. I've seen other videos on YT, but haven't seen a still gallery on other sites. Wasn't sure the best site to post, figured... web design be damned, the manufacturer was probably the best place to link to.

6

u/BrannyBee 10d ago

Cost of manufacturing a personal shark boat = $200k

Dev cost to implement a navbar that goes across the whole screen? Like $4 at my going rate for how long that takes...

Asking the boss's nephew to use the right widget that makes a full screen navbar on the WordPress site...? Apparently prohibitively costly for us here at Sharkboats Inc.

6

u/alienblue89 10d ago

Yeah shit wouldn’t even load on my phone.

Makes me feel super safe buying a submarine from a company that cannot even create a functional website.

→ More replies (3)

59

u/tweakingforjesus 11d ago

So it can't actually go under anything, is loud like a jetski, and when submerged is flying blind at high velocity. Seems like a pretty useless craft.

u/Cr4nkY4nk3r 11d ago

The latest version has a retractable snorkel for doing 360 degree rolls... I assume you could go under something small, but not sure

I was gonna say: That’s a very expensive, high tech coffin right there.

Straight out of the Bond movie. Love it.

Pierce Bond didn't even have the roof when he did that!

But had time to adjust his tie underwater 😅

Honestly probably one of my favorite opening scenes of any bond movie. I miss the gadgets and cheesyness of the Brosnan Bond films.

ooh, I've had this conversation before! these things are two-seater craft, so you can stack around 70 kilos In the back. commission someone to make a seat cover that gives a lot of extra pockets to fit the interior, adding about 10 kilos of extra space. if your pilot is a bit scrawny, pop a few kilos in his lap and under his legs. all in all, about 100 or so kilograms while staying in the 'safe' margins. you could totally get maybe 150-200 kilos in there.

Was anyone else worried he would pop out of the water and smack that mountain that was ahead of him before submerging?

I’ve been in one of these before! It’s really fucking bumpy. They can dive just below the surface of the water and when they do, water seeps in through the seals. Overall experience was like a 5/10. It’s swampy, bumpy and a little nauseating. I prefer just regular jet boats

u/Onphone_irl 11d ago

I've done it too, 9/10 for me. A little leak is inconsequential as you get a superhuman experience.

The crash from the jump after time is a bit tough, like a belly flop in a metal tank. But, I could have told my driver to do less jumps if I wanted

u/jordinilongweeni 11d ago

I think it was a bit choppy when I went out. Super bumpy skimming across the water. I think 5/10 is probably too harsh but I do prefer my adrenaline activities to feel like I’m dying.

This feels like a very rich way to die

u/TheDukeofArgyll 11d ago

Being motionless on dry land is thrilling enough for me.

6

u/Reasonable-Crew-2418 11d ago

When I was much younger, I would have killed to try this.

Now, it actually terrifies me. Shall we dive just under the surface so that we can't see anything, and other boats and people not paying attention on jet skis can't see us either? Then trap us in a capsule that will fill with water and sink when it gets hit?

No thanks!
