Kiwi birds are pretty interesting already, but have you ever seen two fighting?

This is incredibly rare. If you speak to New Zealanders - most if not all will tell you they have never seen a kiwi in the wild. Let alone 2 of them fighting during the day.

Could be on Rakiura. They are much more common there and come out in the day. I saw a wild one there. Others saw many. They are awesome.

And then there’s me; been twice, first time two nights walking around every evening and night, second time walked the Rakiura track, didn’t see a single kiwi.

I did manage to see a wild one off the routebourne track though which was awesome.

Yeah I came here to say pretty much this. Im glad they got it on video because if someone told me that they saw 2 kiwi fighting in their backyard during the day I would 100% not believe them

When I read Kiwi fighting, I thought it would be some kind of clumsy armless animal fighting, never though it would be a sophisticated bout of Taekwondo.

My friend’s dad tried to get between two of them fighting once and he got his arm broken by one of them. He was lucky he was able to roll away before it used its long beak for a ‘death strike’ which is how they kill their prey in the wild.

Definitely don’t underestimate their size or aggressiveness.
